kingfox Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 Vardy in particular will get all the plaudits and rightfully so; however I'd just like to pick out these two players especially. First half I and most probably thought De Laet was absolutely atrocious, while I thought Hammond looked off the pace & was getting overrun in midfield. Was contemplating with fans around me about taking both of them off at half time. However come the second half the contributions they made were absolutely World Class, considering De Laet was on a yellow card he was immense, and the work Hammond did was absolutely fantastic. Epic game, epic performances
Bryn Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 de Laet was great second half, we can't rely on teams collapsing and covering up his errors though. He needs to come out with 100% concentration every game. Hammond works his bollocks off but the problem is he just has no imagination as to what to do with the ball once he's got it, eventually that limitation will have to be addressed, essentially once James is fit.
emmo1987 Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 U have to remember de laet was up against di Maria who would rip any full back a new one. So you cant criticize him
pazzerfox Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 I thought Matty James looked good when he came on. Can't drop Hammond though.
Bryn Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 U have to remember de laet was up against di Maria who would rip any full back a new one. So you cant criticize him You can, he'd have got done for that lunge in by Scott Arfield just as much as by Angel di Maria.
Buzzell Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 U have to remember de laet was up against di Maria who would rip any full back a new one. So you cant criticize him Yeah you can. He was crap first half. Pearson must of had words with him at half time because he was brilliant in the second half. I thought Matty James looked good when he came on. Can't drop Hammond though. Agreed.
sdb Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 You can, he'd have got done for that lunge in by Scott Arfield just as much as by Angel di Maria. Agreed. RDL is getting away with a lot of 'ahh but he's up against x/y/z'. That doesn't excuse diving in/wayward passing etc. THat said, 2nd half - unreal!
Clever Fox Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 DeLaet is clearly happier when going forward. However he's got to improve his defensive side of the game. Getting the wrong side of his man is basic stuff. The other thing I don't like from his game is when he's beaten he just stands and looks at the attacker getting away from him, making no effort to get back and cover. In the second half Moore moved over to the right of center to try and cover him. But what a steal and pass to Vardy for his goal. That's the trade off at the minute. Hopefully he will learn and improve quickly.
adam Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 James did look good, however he looked a bit fat! Thought it was GTF at one point.
Freesolo Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 Dont want to put a downer on a great day buy Schlupp was utter pish again looked out of his depth even for 10 minutes, every time he would get on the break he would end up just giving it away, and this was when United were down to 10 men and he was fresh with there whole defence blowing out thre arses
Lionheart Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 Dont want to put a downer on a great day buy Schlupp was utter pish again looked out of his depth, every time he would get on the break he would end up just giving it away, and this was when United were down to 10 men and he was fresh with there whole defence blowing out thre arses That is because he is sh*t at this level.
EGBFitness Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 DL has had a poor performance in about every first half game so far this season and has been culprit for most goals against us but he's 2nd half performance like today have been fantastic and have redeemed himself. Hopefully gives it all for whole performance soon and shows up in first halves
Russell sprout Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 It's madness imo how much Hammond has came on,I've never knocked him but did question our depth within when he came on against everton, aswell as Andy king who I'm critical of, Both have been outstanding, more so Hammond, And fair play to him,I personally feel that he's showing is quality due to the standard of the opposition,he stands out more in the premiership slot more than the championship.
Weller in Tights Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 Dont want to put a downer on a great day buy Schlupp was utter pish again looked out of his depth even for 10 minutes, every time he would get on the break he would end up just giving it away, and this was when United were down to 10 men and he was fresh with there whole defence blowing out thre arses Yeah, save it for another day, let's not have any negativity.
copunk Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 totally agree, de laet first half didn't look up to the pace at all, 2nd half he was like a man possessed, my mate couldn't believe how quick he is
adam Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 De laet was unbelievable for the last half hour. Brilliant performance. Shame about the first half but like a previous poster said, he was up against one of the best wingers in the world.
HankMarvin Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 Vardy in particular will get all the plaudits and rightfully so; however I'd just like to pick out these two players especially. 65RosesFox Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 Fair play to Nigel for sticking with him after the yellow and 3 challenges that could of been a second card Totally agree. I was saying at the game if Pearson doesn't sub him off he'll get sent off. Clearly whoever said what at HT worked. It's also good to see it didn't knock his confidence after his terrible first half performance. It was like seeing two completely different players.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 21 September 2014 Posted 21 September 2014 He was all over the shop first half and cost us a goal. The 'he was up against...' argument doesn't work when we're in The Prem, he'll be up against someone class more often than not. Like others have said, great going forward second half but he's got to sort himself out defensively first. He's a defender and that's his primary job, going forward should always be secondary to that and if he can't stop losing us these silly goals, that we're doing very well to cancel out currently, then Simpson should get his chance. Already one too many for me today for Richie, despite what he contributed offensively.
