Unabomber Posted 12 October 2014 Posted 12 October 2014 People think Keane was better than Yaya? Wtf.
ScouseFox Posted 12 October 2014 Posted 12 October 2014 and on overall trophies won he pisses on gerrard. Roy Keane PFA Team of the Year (5): 1992–93, 1996–97, 1999–2000, 2000–01, 2001–02 Gerrard PFA Team of the Year (8): 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2014

Corky Posted 12 October 2014 Posted 12 October 2014 I'm sure Gerrard would swap all of them for one of Keane's premiership winners medals. Pride of the Midlands would disagree.
Guest ttfn Posted 12 October 2014 Posted 12 October 2014 Keane was just as good a player as Yaya. Difference is Yaya plays further forward. Keane could easily have done the same had the circumstances of his team demanded it. He was a good passer and finisher, not just a bawling intimidator. But with Paul Scholes next to him, there was only ever going to be one of those two playing an advanced role.
Guest ttfn Posted 12 October 2014 Posted 12 October 2014 Pride of the Midlands would disagree. Pride of the Midlands is too busy putting a cool grand on us winning the Euros after crushing Estonia to care. Scholes was decent Yeah but did he score in 3 consecutive games against Leicester?
Raj Posted 12 October 2014 Author Posted 12 October 2014 As ttfn states. Also like posted im sure SG would swap almost everything for that one premiership medal he hasnt got and will never get now!!" God i sound like a man u fan!!!
Filbert_Ross Posted 12 October 2014 Posted 12 October 2014 Would never want him as our manager but I do like his opinions. Great Player.

bovril Posted 13 October 2014 Posted 13 October 2014 He has a European Cup winners medal. That beats any Premier League medal. And he played in four World Cups. I still think that Keane was the better player though. I would say he was the best central midfielder of the 90s / early 2000s.
Grandad. Posted 13 October 2014 Posted 13 October 2014 Oh my God, people are comparing Roy Keane to Steven Gerrard.. ****ing hell Anderson has more Premier League medals than Gerrard, what a fantastic comparison. lol
Grandad. Posted 13 October 2014 Posted 13 October 2014 Roy Keane is just as good as Yaya Toure?! ttfn is a bigger Man United fan than GingerFox.
bovril Posted 13 October 2014 Posted 13 October 2014 Roy Keane is just as good as Yaya Toure?! ttfn is a bigger Man United fan than GingerFox. You come across as quite young, I'm guessing you never saw Keane play.
Grandad. Posted 13 October 2014 Posted 13 October 2014 You come across as quite young, I'm guessing you never saw Keane play. I seen Keane play from 97 on wards, never in a million years the same level as Yaya at his peak or Gerrard at his peak for that matter.
Fox92 Posted 13 October 2014 Posted 13 October 2014 Oh my God, people are comparing Roy Keane to Steven Gerrard.. ****ing hell Anderson has more Premier League medals than Gerrard, what a fantastic comparison. lol I'm a massive Gerrard fan, but Keane was also a top player. I'm not comparing the two players, and lets not forget Ferguson wanted Gerrard to replace Keane regardless of what his book says. Agree about medals though. I've always said medals don't define top players. Le Tissier won nothing and he's one of the greatest players I've seen.
Grandad. Posted 13 October 2014 Posted 13 October 2014 Keane was a fantastic footballer but he never reached the level that Gerrard and Toure have both reached, yeah both are in poor form for their standards but the levels they have both reached before are the World Class level that Keane for me never reached.
Darkon84 Posted 13 October 2014 Posted 13 October 2014 The thing that Keane had over some of those other players was what he could get out of his players and his fear factor. If Toure, Gerrard and Keane all told you to do something, I'd say that you'd be more likely to do exactly, if not more, for Keane than the others, simply because if you didn't pull your weight, you'd bloody well know about it! Plus, for an opposition player walking out on to the pitch and seeing Keane there, you'd brick it. Every game Keane played in, he gave his side a psychological advantage before the ball had even been kicked. That is certainly something he had over those other players. I've never seen anyone play with such desire.

I think that both Gerrard and Keane at their respective peaks were better than Toure at his. Keane was pretty indisputably world class. I think the same can be said about Gerrard and Toure. I've not tried to compare Gerrard and Keane apart from me saying that I think Keane's the most influential player of the Premier League era, which is not necessarily a comment on his abilities as a footballer (although that is obviously a massive part). It is possible to rate players who played for both Manchester United and Liverpool without having to side with one or the other. You missed Keane from 93-97 as well, by your own admission, when he was a lot different to how he was after his cruciate injury. Not necessarily better, but he offered a different aspect to his game that you probably won't have seen.
Guest MattP Posted 13 October 2014 Posted 13 October 2014 Gerrard and Keane were both better than Toure imo. Ar their peaks would have been an asset to any team in Europe. Toure seems to struggle where the emphasis is on technical ability rather than physicality ie La Liga World Cup Champions league etc

No, don't get me wrong if someone is better than Steven Gerrard then I will say, but I don't think Roy Keane is one of them players. Keane had the fear factor that I think Gerrard has lacked, Gerrard doesn't have the aura that Keane had for Man United, Keane was mean (not dirty) but a mean midfielder, you knew you would be in a battle, that's why him and Vieira was so good to watch. Gerrard was probably a little too young to get into a serious battle with Keane, they had a good battle in the League Cup Final in 2003 where Gerrard got the better of him, but a lot of that was down to Hamann. Keane doesn't have the skill and technique that Gerrard has, that is for sure, nobody can argue that. I really wish Gerrard was around in the Keane/Vieira days at his peak, that would of been brilliant to watch.
Guest ttfn Posted 13 October 2014 Posted 13 October 2014 I think you're underplaying Keane's technical ability pretty drastically; his short passing game was really good. You're entitled to your opinion - I don't think you're wrong necessarily. It's an odd style you have basically wumming (or at least using a significant dollop of hyperbole). getting a bite and then writing an eloquent and conciliatory response
