CityBoyOf95 Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 or is it him picking the wrong team and tactics? whats your team for Villa?
Wilson_6 Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 individual unforced errors due to confidence....Move on
Dickov22 Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 I think the players gave their all last night. They just lack quality
Guest LCFC_World Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Players are letting us all down to be honest. Vardy would have stuck them chances away last season...
Fox Ulike Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 I don't think we could have asked much more of the players last night.
Dickov22 Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Players are letting us all down to be honest. Vardy would have stuck them chances away last season... Agree on Vardy. He's clearly lacking confidence. Had a decent opportunity really early on and took his shot too early, dragging it wide. A confident Vardy would take that on and have a decent chance of scoring. That shot screamed lack of confidence
yorkie1999 Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies, Or being hated, don’t give way to hating, And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise: If you can dream—and not make dreams your master; If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools: If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’ If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And—which is more—you’ll be a Mason
Clever Fox Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 He's tried different tactics which haven't quite worked. Now he's getting back to basics. But he needs to build from the back. You cannot be making the silly errors we have been making in this league. I'd bring Simpson in at RB and move DeLaet forward to RMF. This would take a lot of the defensive responsibility of him and allow him to raid down the right wing using his pace. Upson if ready should add a lot of experience to the centre of defence. Hamer in Goal cannot do any worse than Kasper has. With 4 across the middle we have a chance to control the ball more and get a grip on games. I think Schlupp and Mahrez together could destroy teams with there pace and trickery. In the middle I'd go with Ulloa but only if he's used like an old fashioned CF. Otherwise I'd go with Vardy. My Team would be Hamer simpson Moore Upson ( if ready ) Konchesky Delaet James Cambi Schlupp Ulloa Mahrez
David Hankey Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Remember most of the players are playing to the best of their ability. What Pearson has to do is recognise that some are not up to the standard required to keep us in the Premiership and therefore action needs to be taken to address the situation sooner rather than later. I'm sure it was not our Thai owners' plan to flirt with the Premiership for just one season and that's it. They will want more of the Premiership and be keen for us to consolidate here and push on in the seasons ahead. Remember Mandaric also had a 3 year and relegation wasn't a part of that vision.
Jordan Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Remember most of the players are playing to the best of their ability. What Pearson has to do is recognise that some are not up to the standard required to keep us in the Premiership and therefore action needs to be taken to address the situation sooner rather than later. They will want more of the Premiership and be keen for us to consolidate here and push on in the seasons ahead. Remember Mandaric also had a 3 year and relegation wasn't a part of that vision. Nigel Pearson made it clear last season and this summer that he believed in the bulk of his squad, and that he wasn't going to make lots of changes to it in the transfer window. The owners knew about Pearson's philosophy when they gave him a new contract. We may not have a world-beating squad, but we've seen how well they can play when they have confidence, and we've seen Pearson frustrate Wenger and Martinez while bamboozling van Gaal. There is still plenty of time, there are still plenty of positive signs, and there are still plenty of mediocre teams in the bottom of the table for me to keep faith that Pearson can keep the team up this season.
foxinsocks Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 The players' effort cannot be faulted. The horse has bolted... but clearly someone underestimated the strengthening that the squad needed in the summer. I mostly like our starting 11 (except kasper)... but the bench offers little in term of options to shake a game up (I believe Knocky could be mentored to be come in impact sub... back tracking but breaking forward). I wouldn't get rig of any of our players (..could be persuaded about Hammond)... but I would (like Col says) buy a defensive midfielder and a proven striker (like say bent (but not him)?). In the next few weeks what can we do? (1) give hammer a chance; (2) sort out the marking at corners and set pieces; (3) tell defenders to play safe (last night wes could have headed the ball out for a corner but he headed it back to lalana and they got their first goal!) (3) use knocky as an impact sub; (4) cross the ball early and diagonally to vardy and ulloa while defenders are back tracking; (5) james or drinky - whoever plays need to be able to run thu in to the box. ( 6) sort out our corners and free kicks - james has to clear the first man! (7) don't just cross it to nobody...cut the ball back from the bye line to an arriving midfield player... don't cross it blindly. All thee things can be sorted out by nigel. He can do it if he tries... MY preference is for him to sort these things out. I wouldn't give up on him without knowing we have a better alternative and I can t see one right now - esp not Pullis. So If I was in charge I would press Nige to sort this stuff out... get him a mentor and a sports psychologist!
David Hankey Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Jordan, I couldn't agree more but you have only highlighted the positives. Look at the 8 Clubs we lost against, Pearson's tactics have not "bamboozled" them!! Secondly, if Pearson genuinely thought that by winning the Championship in the fabulous style we did and that those players would be good enough in the Prem then you have to question is ability. As I've said on many previous occasions all players from Lionel Messi to a Sunday afternoon parks player know their level and its the same with managers and whilst Pearson was brilliant in League 1 and the Championship he is nowhere near cutting the mustard now.
Guest Col city fan Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Both..we are being set up to be opened up, and are being (6 goals in 2 games). But the players are short of confidence and many playing badly too. People go on about Kasper being dropped..and i agree, but how bad does Konchesky have to be before he's out the side? He's been just as bad. I'm afraid Nige just keeps on continuing with this rubbish. Probably because he has nothing much any better. So, both..
Babylon Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 I don't think we could have asked much more of the players last night. Other than kicking / heading it straight to the opposition, throwing shots in the path of their players and dragging down the slowest player on the pitch.
Babylon Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 People go on about Kasper being dropped..and i agree, but how bad does Konchesky have to be before he's out the side? He's been just as bad. I thought he'd been ok in the main this year. Last night his shocking distribution crept back in, but that wasn't helped by Wes continuing to pass the ball to him when he was already being closed down.
harpendenfox Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 There has to be greater all round awareness in defensive situations. Last night, watching it again, the first goal was down to Konch failing to match the run off Lallana, lack of awareness. Second goal two of our midfielders allow Stevie G to take an unchallenged shot. Lack of awareness. The third goal a simple handling error by Kasper. Three mistakes. Three goals
Fox Ulike Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Other than kicking / heading it straight to the opposition, throwing shots in the path of their players and dragging down the slowest player on the pitch. yeah apart from all that... I don't think we could of asked much more of the players last night...

Pearson cocked it up in the close season, and brought in players who aren't Premiership quality. That is our problem in a nutshell.
Foxey id Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 I think the players gave their all last night. They just lack quality Thats my take on it too, couldnt question their desire last night, just not enough players who are good enough at this level
6ups 6downs 2 cups Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 It's lack of quality not lack of effort. Just pinning my hopes on signing a couple of experienced premier league players, which we clearly lack, and perhaps an unknown who comes in and gells straight away to give us a spark, but we may need an element of luck. Although we do lack quality, I still think we just need that prem league know who from a couple of additions and we can get out of this. Over to you Nigel!
David Hankey Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 As a former goalkeeper I know only too well that if you make an error invariably it results in a goal, not so outfield players. Taking that on board Schmeichel hasn't become a bad goalkeeper overnight and it may well be that Hamer should come in for the Villa game but Mahrez in my view needs to be rested and probably others. Moore in for Morgan will not be a problem but the midfield need to sort their problems out and start giving a better service to our front men, do that and the goals will come.
Donut Posted 3 December 2014 Posted 3 December 2014 Players arent letting Nige down. They do whats asked of them, they give 110% effort, they try, they run, they do everything they can. Its simply a case that technically, individually, collectively they just cannot live with this league. The step up has been too big a gulf for the majority of them.
