How many defenders do we need? and who would you try and bring in?

Think we need a Centre back with pace and prem experience and a quick left back, Maybe 2 midfielders one winger ( African cup in mind)and creative centre mid and at least one striker! Also do we revert back to the formation that served us so well last season? Not sure if this has been tried. Obviously against man city etc you have to be harder to beat but against the rest why not!

Wasn't we most successful in a 442 last season? We have proved that does not work by being totally dominated in games like v villa. You just can't hold possession when most premiership teams have more in the centre of the park!

With a name like Roger Johnson he should have retired a long time ago to go into the adult movie business imo.

Also because he is shit at football

Cheeky loan bid for Lovren from Pool?

Had a bit of a mare at Liverpool but think he's still a good defender and he isn't getting a look in at the moment.

Other than that I can't of many. Ake on loan could be good although he's gone off the radar at chelsea.

did we play 442 against villa then? Just thinking that we played better playing attacking football as we looked suspect at the back last season ! We could always move a striker behind if i we start to get over run! We are getting beat anyway .

As I said in previous thread... For LB we should have a punt on Reto Ziegler who is currently on a free. Loads of experience. Still only 28. Short term deal and extended terms if we stay up.

Exactly .. Apparently we wanted cresswel but Robinson was to tight to bring him in early along with other signings !

You do wonder how many targets identified by NP/Steve Walsh were frustrated by our own DoF.

Suggested Lovren a couple of weeks back.....Players don't lose all their ability overnight, it's just that Anfield doesn't seem the right place for him at the moment!

Wasn't he just as shit before Southampton? Lyon fans kept saying that him playing with Fonte is what was making him play so well

Wonder if it would be worth a cheeky loan attempt for Nastasic from Man City, heard his name banded around about going to Germany so might be worth a punt

I heard because he had Schneiderlin and Wanyama pretty much covering him every game. Made him look better.

I mentioned Huth the other week too as one for our CBs list. Think he would be a perfect fit for us. As I also said, I also like the idea of Cook from Bournemouth - my only concern there is we already have a Championship heavy defence and would he improve that? That is why Huth for the here and now would be ideal.

LB - Keep mentioning Olsson as do many others but I know I am probably in the minority, but I also think George Friend has a great deal of potential at Boro as I have said in other threads. Young, British, playing in a very confident Middlesborough team and has played Premier League opposition already in his career.

Curtis Davies according to the Telegraph a couple of days ago. Always thought he was a decent player, apparently us and Sunderland are in for him. He does have some PL experience, but not as much as you'd think for a 29 year old

At a minimum:

A tall, big, strong and fast CB to partner with Wasyl. And

A tall, big, strong and fast LB.

Both with PL experience.

Our team as a whole is too short and lightweight. Konch looks tiny next to the majority of players he is up against. Even refs are bigger.

If we have time/money for another deal I'd change out RDL too. I'm not a fan of wing backs,I feel they rush up to attack and leave us exposed at the back to a break. So they need to be really good at tackling and tackle high up the pitch to stop attacks before they start.

I personally think we need a left back for some more cover. Having said that, I don't know who.
