Esm253 Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 I'd say we need a Centre half pairing and another full back, but who would you have?
nettle Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 2 centre backs and 2 fullbacks. Someone who's good in the air at centre back someone like Robert Huth.
Dan Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 Left back. We need to attack teams from this point and Konchesky doesn't really allow us for being particularly effective in doing so, though he may come in handy when we're blatantly on the back foot. Centre half is a must. I think you can possibly get away with one of Morgan, Moore or Wasilewski. Upson's an unknown quantity and you've got to wonder if a 36 year old stepping up a league after a long term injury is going to be fit enough to be any use to us, so I'll rule him out of this for now. Not been at all convinced by De Laet this season and Simpson... I don't know. He's looked good in parts but just as suspect to cock ups as the others. If we were to sign three players I would go with a left back, centre back and a forward.
LCCFox96 Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 Realistically the maximum we can get is probably two defenders, both of which need to be sensible recruitment as we badly need them. A left back is an absolute priority and a strong top flight experienced centre back certainly wouldn't go amiss. After that we will probably need to spread our investment to other areas of the team.
LCCFox96 Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 Left back. We need to attack teams from this point and Konchesky doesn't really allow us for being particularly effective in doing so, though he may come in handy when we're blatantly on the back foot. I completely agree with this which is why it begs belief that Schlupp has not been dropped to left back and Knockaert or Albrighton has not been brought in to play out wide with Mahrez. In my opinion we look better with Schlupp at left back than Konchesky as he has the pace to get forward and back, while Knockaert or Albrighton would offer as much or more in attack. Would like to see Schlupp playing at left back or if not, as you say, see another more attacking left back come in who is capable of getting back and doing a job in defence as well. How easy it is to find such a player is another matter entirely.
DennisNedry Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 We've needed a left back for ages. We could do with at least one new centre back, depending on whether Upson can get fit and perform.
Spicer Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 A quality CB, maybe two. Then either buy a winger and put Schluup at LB or buy a LB. I don't rate Konchesky at this level. A lot of people on here have posted about Kyle Naughton, I would love him but we would likely have to get rid of either De Laet or Simpson.

I've never really rated Schlupp at left wing but if he plays anything like yesterday on a regular basis (and I put it more down to his attitude than quality) then he could become a genuine asset for us out there. At left back I'm not convinced he's up to much defensively. Saying that - will his mistakes be any worse than the others' lately?

At left back I'm not convinced he's up to much defensively. Saying that - will his mistakes be any worse than the others' lately? Agreed. It was his driving run forward that created the space for Ulloa's volley that Lloris tipped over and from that point on we were the better side having been under pressure after Kane's opener. It was his energy and willingness to drive forward that made his performance yesterday, something he hasn't done all season and the first time he does he becomes the best player on the pitch. Like you say a real asset. Defensively, whilst I'm not completely sold, he's better than Konchesky, which until someone else comes in either in January or the summer means he's the best left back we have. Even from left back his attitude and bursting runs forward could still serve us well.
kingfox Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 Two defenders needed, a Centre Back & Left Back. CB - Nathan Ake(Loan), Steve Cook or Sven Van Beek LB - Martin Olsson, Emilio Izaguirre or Raphael Guerreiro
sdb Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 LB & CB - with Prem experience and a bit of pace, ideally the right side of 30... :xmasunsure:
Monsell1976 Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 I think was is good enough, just needs a decent partner, and Simpson can do a job at right back. So for me, a good left back, and a good centre half, and a good alround keeper, should see us better defensively.
Merging Cultures Posted 27 December 2014 Posted 27 December 2014 LB and CB to partner with Was and Simpson. Who would be Captain?
dylanlegend Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Cheap 6 month loan deal. Bring roger Johnson in. Pay some of his wages. Nothing to lose. Move Schlupp to left back. Bring in Redmond for 5mill. Charlie Adam for 3 mill. Marshall for 5mill. Team: Marshall Simpson Morgan Johnson Schlupp Redmond Adam Drinkwater Mahrez/ Knocky Vardy. Ulloa Or do I play football manager too much?
dylanlegend Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Defence needs more pace / height / PL experience. Midfielder needs more bite / creativity. Strikers will be fine with right service. Hence team above

Roger Johnson?????????Strikers will be alright with the right service? Yep, seem to have proven time and time again we need about 4 clear cut chances to score which isn't premier league quality. Are you drunk?
lestajigs Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Why the hell we didnt sign a left bk in summer, is beyond me
les-tah Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 I'd really break the bank on some 6 month loan deals to sort out are team for survival!
les-tah Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 Why the hell we didnt sign a left bk in summer, is beyond meExactly .. Apparently we wanted cresswel but Robinson was to tight to bring him in early along with other signings !
LCFC FOX Posted 28 December 2014 Posted 28 December 2014 CB someone experienced. We should have gone for Lescott in the summer. Even St Ledger would have been a better option than what we have at the moment. LB - I don't mind a young pacey attacking fullback who's good at getting back. Someone from aboard will do. Winger - someone like Redmond or Ince. Young with potential but not shining at the minute. We do know how good they can be though. Maybe even again someone from aboard. ST - I think someone who's scoring in the championship. Deeney, Rhodes, Vydra, Ings. This is the position we'll have to spend most on.
