Rincewind Posted 7 January 2015 Posted 7 January 2015 Saw this on a link on Linkedin (profile updated)http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2015/01/06/upshot/how-nonemployed-americans-spend-their-weekdays-men-vs-women.html?_r=0&abt=0002&abg=0 Only read it quick but it looks interesting. It is graphs and charts on how unemployed men an women spend their days. Not a lot of information just charts and explanation of the meaning. Will Have an in depth read later. I do not want to copy and paste the whole article or present my opinions until others have seen it. I would prefer the replies to be on the article than my views. I have a good idea of what some responses will be. Linkedin address for recommendations https://www.linkedin.com/profile/public-profile-settings?trk=prof-edit-edit-public_profile
Jimothy Posted 7 January 2015 Posted 7 January 2015 What is Nonemployed? Surely that's just unemployed. And why are you posting stuff you haven't read, again? Your post hasn't really given any insight into what the page is about, and as you've not even bothered to read it, why should I waste my time doing so. Could you not have waited until later today when you had got round to reading it and posted it?
Danizen Posted 7 January 2015 Posted 7 January 2015 I notice that 'Personal Care' is a very big part of unemployed men's days. As is, 'TV & Movies'. I bet those two activities overlap quite a bit, if you know what I mean...
Rincewind Posted 7 January 2015 Author Posted 7 January 2015 I have edited my OP to give more information. I am about to go out and do not have time for a thorough read. Nonemployed is what I would imagine is an American term which would be apt as the article is taken from the New York Times. I meant to say that I read it but it needs a second read.
Guest MattP Posted 7 January 2015 Posted 7 January 2015 Looks like you've already had more than enough.

If you haven't got time to read it, don't post until after you've had time to. Why were you so desperate to share it with us you had to hurriedly post it on here as you bolted out the door? Couldn't it have waited until you'd actually digested the information yourself? Could be complete bullshit for all you know.
MooseBreath Posted 7 January 2015 Posted 7 January 2015 Not entirely surprised to see that looking for a job barely features at all.
Sir Fynwy Posted 7 January 2015 Posted 7 January 2015 Not entirely surprised to see that looking for a job barely features at all. If they look a bit they end up employed which isn't the plan.

Nonemployed is what I would imagine is an American term which would be apt as the article is taken from the New York Times. So how is it relevant to the UK? Haven't read the article as I had to dash to the lav...
Carl the Llama Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 Looks interesting but I'm not reading it until someone else reads it first.
kingcarr21 Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 Most of them watch Jeremy Kyle don't they. Most of them are on Jeremy Kyle
MooseBreath Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 I've read it. I'm not sure what point ken was trying to make because it seems to confirm that most unemployed people spend their time lazing around. Paves the way for a great idea - like tags for criminals we should have wearable technology for job seekers that detects what they've been doing throughput the day. For every hour they aren't active they can lose some money.
Rincewind Posted 8 January 2015 Author Posted 8 January 2015 Agree with Moose it does have a bias towards the stereotype view.. I had read it but not in depth and it needed a second read. I have edited my OP to reflect this. I have seen many posts that are not relevant to the UK and that have little information.
Guest MattP Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 What's your opinion on it Ken? Doesn't show the non employed in a good light does it if they spend their whole time watching TV? The tiny time they spend educating themselves is probably the reason why they are unemployed.
DB11 Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 I've not read it but it will consist of stay in bed late, get up and watch Jeremy Kyle (still in pyjamas) Come mid afternoon crack open the super strong lager and get pissed before having a domestic and calling the police.

The result would be the same in the UK if carried out by prejudiced people.

Don't forget they'll walk round to the local office license still wearing pyjamas with a fake pair of ugg boots on.
