sylofox Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 I guess so but three things make me doubt/become less confident about this proposed move. Just my opinions and I may be reading too much into it but hey: - 1) The mercury article in question says Redknapp wishes to sell Hoilett to fund a Defoe move, strengthening QPR's squad. Do we want to buy one of their cast offs to fund a move for a big first team signing for them? (I know it's paper talk but hypothetically). 2) The mercury article, amongst many other sources, states we are also interested in Defoe. If we were to sign Hoilett we potentially might not have the funds available to complete a move for Defoe or another striker of that quality (Okazaki for examples sake). If we were interested in another expensive striker like Defoe or Okazaki would we be looking at Hoilett too rather than a cheaper option like Maloney who has also been mooted? Possibly not. 3) Hoilett hasn't shown anything close to his Blackburn form for years. He was mooted a real bright spark as a youngster but has fizzled out so is a massive gamble imo - but like you say one that could work out. Been told by a Spurs fan Defoe will go to QPR deal nearly done.
ronnup Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 I wouldn't be too happy with Hoilett. We need consistent performers at the top level and Hoilett hasn't shown that since he left Blackburn. Would be a gamble for us. We are not going to attract 'consistent performers at the top level'. We look the best bet for relegation.
5waller5 Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Any player with Junior as their first name worries me .... Look what happened last time!!!!
ADK Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 He's more of a Dyer/Schlupp type than a Knockeart/Mahrez. Seen him for QPR quite a bit, he's nothing special. But I think he would fit a Nigel team more than Redknapps style. Depends what his wage demands are and how much QPR want. Would actually rather Hoilett than Lennon or Defoe at this point.
LCCFox96 Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Been told by a Spurs fan Defoe will go to QPR deal nearly done. Fair enough haven't been reading up on Defoe's move for a few days. But he was just an example. We are not going to attract 'consistent performers at the top level'. We look the best bet for relegation. Not necessarily players from premiership teams but consistent top flight performers from other divisions are targets we can attract - for example Okazaki is a consistent performer in the German top flight and he, from what the media report, is potentially interested in a move to us. Besides, I think the ability to tempt a player of Kramaric's potential in shows we are not a doomed vessel yet in the eyes of people we are targetting.
glen parva fox Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 No thanks we have as good if not better than him
Father Ted Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Yes please, would be a great option, always rated him highly. Rotting under Harry.
Richmondfox Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Huge potential. Definitely a good recruitment. We have plenty of 'huge potentials' and look where we are. Waste of time and money when we need players to do the job day one, we have plenty of players sitting on the bench that we thought would step up.
MGLCFC Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Is he any better than Lloyd Dyer and we let him go. If the coaching staff thought Lloyd had what it takes to cut it in the Prem, he'd have got his new contract for 2 years.

I don't know how you can compare the two that much - apart from the fact that they're both wingers. In terms of skill and speed, Hoilett is slightly ahead of Dyer. Then again, he's eight years his junior (sic!) and possesses Premier League experience. But I don't see Lloyd cutting it in the Premier League any longer, he declined a one-year offer and instead opted to remain in the Championship. Either no other Premier League club thinks he's worth it or Dyer himself came to the conclusion he wouldn't be able to cut it at Premier League level himself.
