The best Horror Film of all time?

The Ring (the Japanese version) is a masterpiece as far as cinematography goes, I don't find it particularly scary though. I tend to prefer horror films that go for the gross out factor to physiological ones personally

i too feel the same i like to see blood everywhere

hello separater whats the best horror film in your opinion

what about evil dead 2?

the exorcist is a classic and is one of the best films ever made in my opinion but i dont think frankenstein is in the top 3 maybe instead put in

 texas chainsaw massacare   the original

I quite like old school slasher movies like Friday 13th. Shame about some of the sequels / Freddie vs Jason / reboots though.

A few more to be considered

The Omen (1976)

The Bride of Frankenstein

Nosferatu

Psycho

Silence of the Lambs

Dracula 1931

The Mummy (1932 & 1959) Both Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee were brilliant as the Mummy

The Thing (1982)

In it's day Frankenstein was a real shocker with people fainting in the audience, it also set the classic image of Frankensteins monster thanks to the make up from Jack Pierce which took hours to apply and the incredible performance from Boris Karloff. When released the censors insisted in cutting many scenes out of it and Kansas wanted 32 scenes cut which would have reduced the films length by half.

I found the 1994 adaptation of Stephen King's In The Mouth Of Madness fairly entertaining. Coincidentally, it also features Sam Neill (of Event Horizon glory).

Also, as a teen I remember watching what today would be regarded as a really cheap sci-fi flick starring Bruce Campbell:

Walter Koenig (Chekhov on the original Star Trek series) is also in it. This movie scared me shitless when I was younger.

I don't think Stephen King had anything to do with mouth of madness, he certainly didn't write it. Sutter Kane is definitely based on him though. It always felt like the story Lovecraft never published to me, great flick.

The Mist is decent, very Lovecraft, as a few of Stephen Kings shorter stories do.

Anything slasher related I'm on it, but as a big Jason Voorhees fan I'm gonna be bias here and go with Friday The 13th

Oh another good horror film though, Switchblade Romance... It's French, pretty damn gory & one serious headfvck of an ending

It's not the greatest film but The Cell with Jennifer Lopez (I know) and Vince Vaughn has some disturbing moments.

Martyrs: Boring, boring, boring... WTF :o

The 70ies version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" is also quite creepy and comes with surprisingly good special effects.

For some reason, I do prefer real SFX (as in props) over CGI.

And speaking of Donald Sutherland, I don't know whether "Don't Look Now" classifies as true horror per se - it is quite an enthralling film, however.
