screwitt Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 The Ring (the Japanese version) is a masterpiece as far as cinematography goes, I don't find it particularly scary though. I tend to prefer horror films that go for the gross out factor to physiological ones personally i too feel the same i like to see blood everywhere hello separater whats the best horror film in your opinion what about evil dead 2?
gibbin82 Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 Best three horror films ever 1. The Exorcist 2. Frankenstien (1930) 3. The Shining
screwitt Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 the exorcist is a classic and is one of the best films ever made in my opinion but i dont think frankenstein is in the top 3 maybe instead put in texas chainsaw massacare the original
separator Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 hello separater whats the best horror film in your opinion I quite like old school slasher movies like Friday 13th. Shame about some of the sequels / Freddie vs Jason / reboots though.
gibbin82 Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 A few more to be considered The Omen (1976) The Bride of Frankenstein Nosferatu Psycho Silence of the Lambs Dracula 1931 The Mummy (1932 & 1959) Both Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee were brilliant as the Mummy The Thing (1982)
separator Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 The Fog (the 80's original) is decent as well
gibbin82 Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 the exorcist is a classic and is one of the best films ever made in my opinion but i dont think frankenstein is in the top 3 maybe instead put in texas chainsaw massacare the original In it's day Frankenstein was a real shocker with people fainting in the audience, it also set the classic image of Frankensteins monster thanks to the make up from Jack Pierce which took hours to apply and the incredible performance from Boris Karloff. When released the censors insisted in cutting many scenes out of it and Kansas wanted 32 scenes cut which would have reduced the films length by half. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankenstein_(1931_film)
MrSpaM Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 The Fog (the 80's original) is decent as well Yeh, The Fogs awesome 80's film called "The Burning" is pretty good
gibbin82 Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 Whlie not strictly a film the BBC television Drama 'Whistle and I'll Come to You' is a first class ghost story. Based on an M R James story and starring Michael Horden it is real horror classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FUQzd-7dn4
sphericalfox Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 Yeh, The Fogs awesome 80's film called "The Burning" is pretty good misread that.
MC Prussian Posted 15 January 2015 Posted 15 January 2015 I found the 1994 adaptation of Stephen King's In The Mouth Of Madness fairly entertaining. Coincidentally, it also features Sam Neill (of Event Horizon glory). Also, as a teen I remember watching what today would be regarded as a really cheap sci-fi flick starring Bruce Campbell: Walter Koenig (Chekhov on the original Star Trek series) is also in it. This movie scared me shitless when I was younger.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 16 January 2015 Posted 16 January 2015 I don't think Stephen King had anything to do with mouth of madness, he certainly didn't write it. Sutter Kane is definitely based on him though. It always felt like the story Lovecraft never published to me, great flick. The Mist is decent, very Lovecraft, as a few of Stephen Kings shorter stories do.
CKB Posted 16 January 2015 Posted 16 January 2015 Anything slasher related I'm on it, but as a big Jason Voorhees fan I'm gonna be bias here and go with Friday The 13th Oh another good horror film though, Switchblade Romance... It's French, pretty damn gory & one serious headfvck of an ending

It's French, pretty damn gory & one serious headfvck of an ending i agree with you totally on that. the most scariest horror story is the english football team !! In it's day Frankenstein was a real shocker with people fainting in the audience, it also set the classic image of Frankensteins monster thanks to the make up from Jack Pierce which took hours to apply and the incredible performance from Boris Karloff. When released the censors insisted in cutting many scenes out of it and Kansas wanted 32 scenes cut which would have reduced the films length by half. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankenstein_(1931_film) oh i know that im just saying i prefer the eorcist to frankenstein.
Phube Posted 16 January 2015 Posted 16 January 2015 That last Scooby-doo movie had its moments. I did like the fat Daphne...
Guest seanfox778 Posted 16 January 2015 Posted 16 January 2015 It's not the greatest film but The Cell with Jennifer Lopez (I know) and Vince Vaughn has some disturbing moments.

Phube Posted 16 January 2015 Posted 16 January 2015 Have you seen Frontieres or Martyrs? very disturbing Martyrs: Boring, boring, boring... WTF
sphericalfox Posted 16 January 2015 Posted 16 January 2015 I there was ever a film that deserved a follow-up or maybe even a remake. Then it's this. However, the original, though it's aged a bit, still is dark as fook.
MC Prussian Posted 16 January 2015 Posted 16 January 2015 The 70ies version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" is also quite creepy and comes with surprisingly good special effects. For some reason, I do prefer real SFX (as in props) over CGI. And speaking of Donald Sutherland, I don't know whether "Don't Look Now" classifies as true horror per se - it is quite an enthralling film, however.
Legend_in_blue Posted 16 January 2015 Posted 16 January 2015 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c4/Hellraiser_poster.png Pinhead deserves a mention in this thread.
CKB Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Have you seen Frontieres or Martyrs? very disturbing Seen Martyrs which was another crazy headfvck of a film but don't recall seeing Frontieres, will have to check it out
