Beliall Posted 8 September 2014 Posted 8 September 2014 I don't count Jump scares as any sudden, loud noise will make me jump. Genuinely unsettling, disturbing creepy horror films for me were: What he said.
Buzzell Posted 8 September 2014 Posted 8 September 2014 Yeah, Sinister is quite ****ed up. The music in that film is horrifiying.
Guest Col city fan Posted 8 September 2014 Posted 8 September 2014 I was terrified when i watched IT. I was really young though. Nowadays i find horror films aren't actually scary just have moments that make you jump. Always remember watching Signs (Mel Gibson) and a scene with the dog near the beginning making me jump. The Descent also makes you jump in a few places. One of my favourite horror films would be Scream. A classic I loved IT. The book is even better. The Exorcist scared me shitless the first time I saw it..
Phube Posted 8 September 2014 Posted 8 September 2014 I loved IT. The book is even better. The Exorcist scared me shitless the first time I saw it.. The Exorcist made me (and the rest of the cinema) laugh the first time I saw it!
Bobby Hundreds Posted 8 September 2014 Posted 8 September 2014 Nightmare on Elm Street shit me right up
Dr The Singh Posted 8 September 2014 Posted 8 September 2014 The Exorcist made me (and the rest of the cinema) laugh the first time I saw it!After watching it, I just wanted to **** Jesus!Nightmare on Elm Street shit me right upI had nightmares for days after watching that
foxile5 Posted 8 September 2014 Posted 8 September 2014 I was going to offer up Event Horizon, but that's been covered. I remember Alien being particularly terrifying back in the day. That and Paris Hilton's sex tape.
sphericalfox Posted 8 September 2014 Posted 8 September 2014 People are just listing films that shit them up. This does not make the best horror film ever. I've watched 100s and 100s of horror films. I think it's going to be an subjective call this, but The Shining is a piece of art, with so much subtlety behind it, and a brooding menace not equaled in my view. Horror is not gore or cheap frights.
OzFox Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 The Exorcist made me (and the rest of the cinema) laugh the first time I saw it! Same here. But that was mainly because I'd sneaked into a double bill without paying and the first film that came up was 'Exorcist II', which is fvcking hilarious. When 'Exorcist' came on I just couldn't take it seriously 'The Entity' scared the crap out of me, and for some reason so did 'Event Horizon'. Guess it depends what mood you're in
Buzzell Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Nightmare on Elm Street always shit me up when I watched it as a youngster. But watching it now it just makes me laugh, same as the likes of Exorcist and Hellraiser. Good, scary films back in the day. One film that made me absolutely shit myself was The Fly. Hated that film.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 The worst I've ever seen was Nightmare on Elm Street 2 when I was a youth. So shit, especially given the ones either side were good watching.
bovril Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 The worst I've ever seen was Nightmare on Elm Street 2 when I was a youth. So shit, especially given the ones either side were good watching. Even worse than Jeepers Creepers 2?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 Yeah, NOES2 is properly wank!
Russell sprout Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 I love horror,I'm more into the old films, However,if you like disturbing films then watch the human centipede 2(uncut version), I recently watched vhs2 on sky aswell which is a film made up of films and was very good, Would also throw in 'house of a thousand corpes' and 'hannible holocaust'.
Wem ber lee Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 The conjuring is the best new horror film I've seen but the best horror film is the exorcist. It was made by a very talented director, William friedkin.
sdb Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 The Shining and The Exorcist, but I don't watch many. They're both good films though which is probably why I rate them more. Most Horror's seem shite to me.
foxsake Posted 9 September 2014 Posted 9 September 2014 The conjuring is the best new horror film I've seen but the best horror film is the exorcist. It was made by a very talented director, William friedkin. Yeah, The Conjuring was pretty good; the idea of playing on the fear of the family unit being torn apart is an old but effective one and I think it was handled with some finesse in that. Has anyone seen The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears? Looks like an interesting take on the old giallo films Fright Night is another teen favourite - wonderfully camp and some great performances. The remake was unnecessary and a massive turd, as expected.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 10 September 2014 Posted 10 September 2014 Sinister was seriously messed up, really freaked me out. The bit where Mr. Boogies head turned in the computer monitor was so fvcking horrifying, as were all the home films he watched. The soundtrack and general ambiance of the film is what really unsettled me, constant tension, even during the day there was always something in the shot that drew your attention that made you think something was maybe about to kick off. The Thing Event Horizon Ring (JAP) Alien Silence of the Lambs
Buzzell Posted 10 September 2014 Posted 10 September 2014 Quite a few people on here have mentioned Event Horizon. Never watched it, might have to check it out.

The Thing Event Horizon Ring (JAP) Alien Silence of the Lambs I thought 'Sinister' was good but showed too much too early. It was far creepier before you saw all the little kids running around. Event Horizon is a bit gross but I never thought it was great. Alien hasn't dated at all, brilliant film.
Houdini Logic Posted 10 September 2014 Posted 10 September 2014 Not a film, but messed me up more than anything else I've ever watched:
foxsake Posted 10 September 2014 Posted 10 September 2014 Not a film, but messed me up more than anything else I've ever watched: Ghostwatch was brilliant! There was a screening at the old Phoenix some years back and the show's creator did a Q&A afterwards.
