Collibosher70 Posted 2 February 2015 Posted 2 February 2015 And if we stay in the division and have a cup run? IF.....well then he'll be on the way to being a legend...but it's not happened yet !
Bettsj2 Posted 2 February 2015 Posted 2 February 2015 Come on mate this is a forum...you aren't texting your mate on the xbox in the next room! Let's have a bit of English if you want to be taken seriously! ✈️
Captain... Posted 2 February 2015 Posted 2 February 2015 Comparing money spent is irrelevant, they are different eras and the current premier league is an unprecedented era of wealth with money being thrown around like crazy. Draper for 1.25m and Robins for 1m is the equivalent of Ulloa for 8m and Kramaric for 9m these days. What is comparable is top flight experience, Little's side had 0, Milne, Adams and O'neill all had recently relegated sides with experience of the top flight. NP's side has very little top flight experience, apart from Konchesky, who has been poor and Albrighton who has been underused and that is costing us. The alternative would have been to completely rebuild the side.

MattyFromLE Posted 2 February 2015 Posted 2 February 2015 O'neil is a legend...Pearson is not. Sorry this is bullshit. Last season will go down as one of the greatest seasons we've EVER had. Pearson orchestrated that. I seriously struggle to see how Pearson divides opinion so much after bringing us so much success in a short period of time. He sometimes says the wrong thing, sometimes makes the wrong tactical decision - tell me a manager in the lower half of the premier league who doesn't, though?

All O'Neil's work was done in the premier league that's why he's a legend and he won some cups as well. Pearson has along way to go before he replicates that.
shailen Posted 2 February 2015 Posted 2 February 2015 All O'Neil's work was done in the premier league that's why he's a legend and he won some cups as well. Pearson has along way to go before he replicates that. Don't think anyone is questioning how good MON was for us. Pearson has only done good things at this club, he deserves the whole season at least to stamp his authority. Tbh in the past I've questioned his decisions at times in the past, and he's always answered them. He's a good manager. I remember at the start of last season, everyone was going up in arms over Drinkwater and Vardy slating them, and then at the start of the season everyone was saying they could get England call ups....etc. people react to form, not the players quality.
1972 Fox Posted 3 February 2015 Posted 3 February 2015 I think most will agree that O'Neill is a legend. Because of his legendary status amongst City fans it is surprising that so few can spell his name correctly.

Callabinho Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 I wonder what Scooby Doo's win ratio was like?
daddylonglegs Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 How many of them were arrogant, stubborn, sit in the stand, Stringer hating, shit trainer wearing negative jokers like Pearson though? I won't hear a bad word about those trainers.
Collibosher70 Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Well, neither has he failed yet then! That's why I said IF
nickm Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 The premier league was a completely different place when martin o'neill was here to what it is now. Back then a manager could be the difference but now how much you spend relates to how much success you have. Pearson's doing okay and as much as i may have slated him in the past he deserves to be given the chance to pull it round.
hackneyfox Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 League 1 can be difficult to get out of but Doncaster also managed it at the first time of trying so it isn't as if NFP performed some kind of miracle.
Gubbins Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Comparing money spent is irrelevant, they are different eras and the current premier league is an unprecedented era of wealth with money being thrown around like crazy. The alternative would have been to completely rebuild the side. MONs side had Parker, Grayson and Whitlow as the only players with pl experience with the latter two only playing in a single relegation season a year previously. Whitlow also spent a lot of the season out injured so the team was hardly top flight experienced!
Steven Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Pearson is wholly responsible for our revival after our darkest times getting relegated to league one. Two promotions and two close play off semi finals is what he has achieved since 2008. Even ifwe get relegated, I hope we stick with him because he has proven he gets success. I'm confident he can keep us up because he has always turned around bad form. Take 2012/13 our charge towards the play offs vs forest. People seem to forget how hard it is to get out of league one. Leeds, forest, soton and Norwich spent a few seasons there....all big teams. And we all know how tough the championship is. Sven had all the financial backing, not Pearson, he dismantled an expensive, cocky team and replaced it with a hardworking, energetic and quality squad on the cheap. And it's not like we have been the shipping boys this season. Far from it, we are 3 points from safety. That's one result for you pessimists. Question him all you want, but for me he has proven he knows what's he is doing. Don't think anyone could do a better job given the same resources Past results are no guarantee of future performance, especially in different operating environments.
shailen Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Past results are no guarantee of future performance, especially in different operating environments. yeah I agree, Ive said that we may not stay up, but still believe hes the best man for the job. No one knows how a manager will perform, but you have to look at their track record to make a decision on whether they are a good manager or not
stevie lynex on the wing Posted 4 February 2015 Author Posted 4 February 2015 I also thought when we won the league last season we had a better team that O"Neil took up via play offs in 1996 .but not being in the top flight for 10 years shows how tougher the league is today than back then ..
Captain... Whitlow also spent a lot of the season out injured so the team was hardly top flight experienced! You have a look through that squad for MONs first season in the prem, Walsh, Poole, Hill, Robins all played in the prem with us, Watts, Prior, Marshall, Ullathorne were all signed with Prem experience. It was also the clubs second attempt in recent years there was a lot more experience of the prem in all aspects of the club so we were better prepared. This season has been a voyage into the unknown for pretty much everyone at the club.
