Voll Blau Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 You really ought to live in the city if you're going to be mayor of it.
DB11 Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 If you live in the county can you vote or is it City people only?
Voll Blau Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 If you live in the county can you vote or is it City people only? No. City only.
DB11 Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 No. City only. So how can someone that doesn't live in the city be eligible to run as mayor?!
Guest MattP Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Well I'm sure this will be a close race I'm sure. Labour could put Jimmy Savile up and they would genuinely still win.
Finnegan Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Generally I'd agree but I don't think Soulsby has been particularly popular.
Guest MattP Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 We both know there isn't a remote chance he doesn't get in again, he's got a massive vote out there somewhere. I hope David Bowley stands again just so we get to see him on TV.
Guest MattP Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 “I’ve slept with hundreds of women. Hundreds. And thousands of men,” muses the man in the “Pure Magic” Leicester City hat, off-white rosette, camouflage shorts and blue Gola trainers.“Everyone is bisexual to a degree,” says the 52-year-old, arching an eyebrow. “You might have a dabble if someone was willing.”A lot more where that came from has been kept in the notebook. Prospective MP David J Bowley – “that’s J for John with an H, the Northbridge Tavern, LE3 5AG, please get it right” – is getting the oxygen of publicity he craves. He actually said that in response to a question about the roads or something.
purpleronnie Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Well I'm sure this will be a close race I'm sure. Labour could put Jimmy Savile up and they would genuinely still win. Now now Matt you know Mr Saville was a Tory . Thatcher even lobbied for his knighthood against party wishes.
Finnegan Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 I want David Bowleys manky squat. It'll be a ****ing amazing pub when frog island gets redeveloped. If I could own a property / business locally it'd be that.
CosbehFox Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 I think if a credible independent candidate came along, they would absolutely piss it.
Dan Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 That David Bowley (I think it was him) was on a bus home from an away game once, think it was Palace, it lead to the funniest trip home I have ever had bar none. He was downright weird.

If I could own a property / business locally it'd be that.I just caught the end of the Frog Island Sunday piss ups at 16-17 years old. Used to be absolutely packed with the Tuck, Forresters, Ship and Tavern. Such a shame to see it all go, were great days.
Finnegan Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Northbridge Tavern, that's the one. Good size, potentially fantastic canal side garden, amazing location when the area gets developed.
Guest MattP Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Northbridge Tavern, that's the one. Good size, potentially fantastic canal side garden, amazing location when the area gets developed. It's got huge potential. Even more so with less and less people seeming to want to go into town in this day and age. Just got to keep the students out.
Voll Blau Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Bowley is a really strange unit. Met him the day after the "riots" in 2011 where he shoehorned his way into looking like the ringleader of a peace demonstration.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 We both know there isn't a remote chance he doesn't get in again, he's got a massive vote out there somewhere. I hope David Bowley stands again just so we get to see him on TV. Credit to him, I wrote to all the candidates before the Castle Ward by election after Phil Gordon's death and he was one of two to respond by polling day, on three and a half sides of hand written A4 paper. He's an eccentric, but he cares.
David Hankey Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 The fact of the matter is the citizens of Leicester were never given a referendum back in 2010/11 to see if they wanted this form of local governance. It was foisted upon them by 40 odd New Labour City Councillors who decided it would be a good idea and a great opportunity to get their crony, SPS, back in. Ask yourself has it been a change for good. NO it hasn't because you simply have one man holding sway and deciding almost single-handedly what will be done in the City. SPS has proved he is power mad an God help anyone who opposes him, that is not good for democracy.
Merging Cultures Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 I'm sorry, but if I lived in the City, I wouldn't be able to vote for him. I can't imagine him in a business meeting and people wanting to invest in the city because of him.
David Hankey Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Their crony who they previously hoofed out? I don't know whether he was "hoofed" out. He left when he became an MP.
ADK Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Surely the people in the county should be able to vote?
Webbo Posted 4 February 2015 Posted 4 February 2015 Surely the people in the county should be able to vote? We don't pay council tax for the city, not really fair we should pick the mayor.
