MHC Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 if we go down whos likely to be our team to A) get us up B) keep us up ?? i.e Morgan for championship but need replacing if we go up?? Schmeichel, Hamer, De Laet, Simpson, Moore, Morgan, Drinkwater, James, King, Choudhury, Barmby, Schlupp, Lawrence, Ulloa, Nugent, Vardy and whoever we sign
st albans fox Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 IMO, if we now end 17th, that would be a major success in my eyes. Well it would be a bloody miracle based on where we are now col !
Stadt Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 Wasted because we didn't stay up? That infers football is only good when we do well, certainly this season has been frustrating but I've still enjoyed it, The United game was more enjoyable than any last season even if it was ultimately meaningless if your perspective is based entirely on the season objectives.
EGBFitness Posted 17 February 2015 Posted 17 February 2015 Only if we'd have Pelle and Sakho up top! We still wouldn't of supplied them with anything and we'd all be on here slagging them off and saying no one will be interested in them when we get relegated
Swiss_tony Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 It depends on how fast you want "success" to happen at this level and for this club. I agree the season so far has been somewhat underwhelming (of course, others will use more drastic terms), but overall, I think we've held up pretty well and the amount of narrow defeats as part of our results do tell me that we're not that far off from competing properly. I don't regard this season as "wasted" because a) it's not over yet, so we might still be able to secure safety and finish in 17th spot (or slightly above) b) all parties involved - be it players, the manager, the management team, the owners, the fans, the media - will have learnt a valuable lesson, regardless of our finishing position comes May. Some might say I'm clinging on to something here - but I genuinely believe for the first time in years, if not decades, we're looking at a solid foundation to build upon, even in the case of relegation back to the Championship. Naturally, who doesn't want to be in the Premier League? But like I've said many a times, we've got to earn our right to compete at this level. If it means having to endure a stint back one level down for us to regain our senses, so be it. Pearson and his allies at the club have endured similarly tough spells in the Championship, when results just wouldn't go our way. They learnt and they adapted. And in the end, it did pay off. Although patience and understanding from a fans' perspective was required. You may argue and are desperate to see this club in the Premier League - but let me ask you: Would a season in the lower tier really do us no good? And how realistic do you see our chances of another, immediate promotion? Bearing in mind how competitive the Championship is, would you actually see us struggle or not? I have faith in the current setup and think we could do it if required. Stranger things have happened in football. fans who think being bottom of the league is 'doing ok' is one of the problems.
Swiss_tony Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 here is the roll call of shame, you can fill in the blanks as to who's fault it is/was since we'll probably never know. 1 - promotion achieved in April 2014. Leaving 5 months to bring in some players to help us kick on. 2 - owners said 180 million to spend to get us in the CL within 4 years (reminds meof wallaces boast that we would win the title after he got us promoted only to go straight back down). 3 - no decent players brought in over summer bar one. 4 - it was clear to anybody with a footballing brain that the defence was the weak spot, it was in the championship it is in the prem. 5 - if the owners were going to do something it should've been in novemebr. not done. some of you may agree or disagree but results since haven't changed my opinion that he should've gone then. 6 - repeated tinkering and playing players out of position. 7 - certain players can barely get a sniff of the first team currently despite playing well when coming in, others have performed poorly all season and get to start. 8 - not enough players brought in in january. one which was ie schwarzer no better than what we had ie hamer, and is actually costing us goals. 9 - middle of feb and he starts playing a formation not seen all season, and actaully boasts about it in the press conference after arsenal that the players had zero prep time with it. 10 - for a man that supposedly uses stats, why on earth would you pick a 5 man defence agianst the lowest scorers in premier league history at this juncture in the season. 11 - the abandonement of the high pressing game that brought us much success last season. baffling. so i think the letdown is all around from owners to manager to players. all are at least partially culpable for this seasons shambles. for all of mc prussians happiness at our 9 pts from 60, stats will tell you we are going down. we're adrift in the middle of feb, nobody gets out of that. the rest of the season is a waste of time as far as i'm concerned. roll on the summer.
Guy Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Seasons wasted if we keep NP and we go down change him now for me. give us some chance of staying up, going down is going to set us back loads. its all well and good saying NP is the best to bounce us straight back but if he does then what, struggle again and be a yo yo. Just look at who were going to be left with should we go down. gk. kasper will probally get offers and go, ben would and should be pissed off and wouldnt be 1st choice or here, ms will be another year older.. so 2 keeprs needed to start defence, huth will go, upson too od, konch needs to go. was again will probally be pissed over the way hes been used, leaves us 2 rbs, morgan and moore. mid cambiasso will go, cant see dd staying, james may get another club after him, mahrez deffo will go allbrighton wouldnt stay or even knock after this season. leaving us king hammond jeff. strikers, kram will go, ulloa nugent and vardy. too much change going to happen to guarantee instant return. , I forget some of these names in an instant, or they're at the back of my mind- so sporadic have some of them been used in an off and on way this season! Pearson definitely hasn't known his best team this season period, that sticks out like a saw thumb!

Guy Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Feel free to leave the forum until then in that case mate I still think Sunderland and Palace got 'out of dodge' with unbelievable runs at this stage last season from a more perilous position than ours but don't quote me on that!
Swiss_tony Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Feel free to leave the forum until then in that case mate i don't think i will. the rest of the season is a waste buit some of the comments on here are priceless. can't give that up.
Guy Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 The only two greater miracles in my living memory that exist if we did stay up this season (bearing in mind I'm 'only' 46!) is that we finished 15th in Division One (top flight) in 1984 thanks to the board sticking with Gordon Milne after a horrendous start that season (although patience was definitely seen as more of a virtue back then!) and of course our best manager of all time Martin O'Neill getting us promoted via the play offs in 1996 after our serious bomb in form under him in the March. For me then Pearson has still yet to enter LCFC's Hall Of Fame in the managerial way because of the board's backing at his disposal, especially during this the second time around with the Thais. Even though we still had to "go out there and do it" in our one and only season in 2008-09 under Pearson, even so we still had the best budget and biggest fan base by a mile bar Leeds that season in the third tier. Lord knows they were bad that season not to go up with us!
ronnup Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 I just don't think 5 points is impossible. We only need to pick up some victories and beat one of the teams around us and it could be a different kettle of fish totally. I'll stay hopeful, it's more fun.

We only need to pick up some victories and beat one of the teams around us and it could be a different kettle of fish totally. I'll stay hopeful, it's more fun. but it isn't 5 points. the other teams won't lose every game from now until the end of the season. teams around us will pick up points.

Expect the unexpected and all that I suppose! Even so just two wins in maybe three or four games is massive in the Prem. nowadays, particularly for a newly promoted side. The O'Neill years will never be replicated now I fear, that started off in a rather similar vein to now!
ozleicester Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 This forum has turned into Groundhog Day...a new thread everyday, but the same topic.....

Morgan and De Laet spring to mind with the amount of individual errors up until this point, but no player has been consistently bad. 8 - How many players would you have brought in? Ten? It was never going to happen, so I wonder what your point is. We needed reinforcements in certain positions and that's what we got. I would've loved to see us go after another proper left-back, but they're hard to get and pricey. 9 - The formation worked well against Arsenal - if only it hadn't been for two silly goals against so early on. 10 - You'll have to ask Pearson about that. Again, the 5-4-1 worked well - in the first half. Straight after the whistle, we just caved in. That's the more interesting part and should be examined further. 11 - Try high-pressure in this league against midfielders, strikers and wingers of such quality as in the majority of other teams' squads and you'd be witness to embarrassing scorelines. But I do agree with you insofar as that all elements are equally to be blamed for with regards to our current position. There's a portion of naivety, inexperience and haplessness in there somewhere. The season isn't over until it's over. If we continue to perform like we did against the Villa in the second half in the FA Cup, then I'd be mightily angry. Performances and results up until this point suggest the players as well as the manager haven't given up yet.
Daveaway Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Brentfords manager will be looking at the end of the season Mark Warburton started his career at City but big gamble

Arriba Los Zorros Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 This... It's getting dead boring..You're right. Same subject but from a different slant each time. There's no point anyway. Win the next game and the masses once more will be expressing their undying love for Sir Nige. Tears of joy will again be shed. If we stay up...God knows what people will be like. There will be so much 'I told you so' you could pop it into jars and sell it. Wouldn't that be a disaster to stay up if it meant you were proven wrong.....
DB11 Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 You state that we all know what was needed... but none of us know the reality of how easy that was, or what was tried and failed. This isn't Football Manager
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Wouldn't that be a disaster to stay up if it meant you were proven wrong..... Again...sigh....READ. I've had money on City finishing 17th.... Is there ANY point explaining anything on here?
Swiss_tony Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Sigh? That's a perfectly reasoned post so according to mc prussian and you, there is nothing we could've done, nothing we should've done, and it's really nobody's fault. it's just random chance that we are bottom of the league?? honestly.
