Dickov22 Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Not the mystery of why he's barely had many games. More the mystery for me that I constantly hear fans on the phone in, on here and on twitter demanding he be in the starting 11. Each time I've seen him he's looked to me like a decent player, full of effort (quite a few silly fouls because he's trying too hard/lacks ability) but pretty low on quality. Each time I see him he has one move- head down and run to the corner flag. Not a lot of pace either. Despite some fairly anonymous performances at times, Schlupp and Mahrez have still probably been two of our better players this season. Where exactly do people wanna see Albrighton start? And even more so- why?
Ollie93 Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Personally, I would stick with Mahrez on one wing for sure, as he is clearly one of our best players. I think the issue is the fact that there is some form annoyance as to why he didn't come on in the Villa game when Schlupp and Mahrez wern't playing that well?
Mark_w Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Good question. I don't understand the calls to push Jeff back to LB when he's been doing so well this season just to accommodate Albrighton.

One Legged Beaver Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 The only really decent game I can really remember from him has been the home game against Villa, in which I feel Knockaert outperformed him in that game anyway.
Dickov22 Posted 18 February 2015 Author Posted 18 February 2015 It's funny because my villa STH friend said at the start of the season he's not much good and didn't feature for them a lot in recent seasons. Full of effort but a lack of quality and pace. I'd say that's spot on from what I've seen so far. The only really decent game I can really remember from him has been the home game against Villa, in which I feel Knockaert outperformed him in that game anyway. Agree he did ok but not as great as most suggested in my opinion. Committed loads of silly fouls too. Knockaert is the bigger mystery of the two. He must be gutted
Danno Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Agreed, never seen what's good about him apart from the fact that he can occasionally put in an ok cross.
Dickov22 Posted 18 February 2015 Author Posted 18 February 2015 Good question. I don't understand the calls to push Jeff back to LB when he's been doing so well this season just to accommodate Albrighton. Albrighton is so right footed . He could never play on the left.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Albrighton's not pulled up many trees but he's deserved more of a crack than he's had.
Jaspa Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 It does grind on me when I keep hearing this too For some reason the lad doesnt get many starts, the same thing was happening with him at Villa and the fans are reminding me of Villa. Im not saying hes not a useful player or that I dislike him but there has to be method in the madness
ADK Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 I think he's a darling of the Pearson Out crowd, in the same way Mills, Beckford, Gallagher, SSL and others have been. He's looked both limited and unfit for most of the time he's been on the pitch. Should have been brought on as a sub more often though.
Kitchandro Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Good question. I don't understand the calls to push Jeff back to LB when he's been doing so well this season just to accommodate Albrighton. He's improved this half of the season but saying he's done well just highlights your lack of ambition for this team. Like Knockaert, Albrighton has had very few opportunities but when he has made appearances this calendar year he's looked impressive. He was MOTM against Villa then bizarrely dropped. He then came on against Man Utd, after a dreadful performance from us, and was by far our best player on the day, looking very dangerous and creating a goal with a great cross. Schlupp has played week in week out all season and despite flashes of very good play, he's largely been erratic and times downright amateurish.
Dickov22 Posted 18 February 2015 Author Posted 18 February 2015 Albrighton's not pulled up many trees but he's deserved more of a crack than he's had. In place of who though? Mahrez is our best player and Schlupp's done pretty well if you ask me. Just frustrating that he drifts in and out of games like he's daydreaming sometimes. (Most evident Liverpool at home and Villa away). He still possesses more danger than Albrighton though. Pace and power.
tommyh Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Would prefer Knockaert over Albrighton and Schlupp anyday of the week!
FLINTHAMFC Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Knocky is the one I am disappointed about too. Not too bothered about Albrighton, not seen enough of him to miss him. What I have seen hasn't been too impressive, not all bad though. I was really looking forward to Knockaert in the Premier League but I guess Mahrez scuppered that, and Schlupp is there for his pace.

In the top 5 performers definitely
Buzzell Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 The only good thing about him, from what I've watched, is that he always looks to put the ball in the box. Other then that he looks average.
lcfcsnow Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Pearson studies the free transfer list every year, he's just another one to add to Upson, GTF, Whitbread, Bakayogo, Kennedy, Neilson that end up being garbage. The fact we offered a four year contract should have been a sign of things to come.
fleckneymike Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 The problem is that no matter how 'bad' we may think he is in comparison to the competition is in his place, his competition haven't been good enough. We can't get any worse, we couldn't really pick up less points, we can't really score fewer goals. Worse case is we put him in the team and we lose games, current best case is that we lose games without him so why not just give him a start?
ADK Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 He reminds me of a Martin O'Neil wide player, limited but can deliver a good cross. Which is probably why he came through the Villa academy while Martin was there. Thing is, he's totally right footed so he either plays or Mahrez plays and Mahrez is better.
Dan Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 I don't think he's our saviour by any means but I definitely think he should've played more than he has done. I think there's less of a case for him now Mahrez is back but when Vardy started out wide at White Hart lane & Old Trafford whilst Albrighton warmed the bench it was farcical. I think he's been unlucky. Hasn't been particularly great but not bad either. Harshly dropped for the Stoke game and yet to really force his way back in since despite looking one of our more positive players off the bench.

Dan Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 I wouldn't contemplate putting him on the left. Don't think it would suit his game at all. He's a more old fashioned type of winger.
Dan Posted 18 February 2015 Posted 18 February 2015 Good question. I don't understand the calls to push Jeff back to LB when he's been doing so well this season just to accommodate Albrighton. Nah. Went on a good run a few games ago and I don't believe it's beyond him to rediscover that but he hasn't looked a better player for the amount of time played than Albrighton has. Not entirely convinced by Mahrez on the left either. It's a shame Knockaert's fallen so much out of favour. He didn't turn crap overnight.
