RIP Sir Terry Pratchett

Perhaps this doesn't need its own thread but...

"AT LAST, SIR TERRY, WE MUST WALK TOGETHER.

Terry took Death's arm and followed him through the doors and on to the black desert under the endless night.

The End".

A truly fantastic author and a courageous human being in the face of a horrible disease. Hopefully, his work will continue to bring joy to millions of people. RIP.

A great person lost.

I hope he did somehow manage to go on his own terms like he wanted.

“No one is actually dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away...”
- Terry Pratchett, Reaper Man

I  imagine Terry Pratchet that your life will continue for a very long time....

RIP Sir Terry. Heroic, moral, and hilarious-a gateway drug to every good piece of literature I've ever read.

Reread a couple of Discworld books in hospital recently, and the depth of thought behind them is incredible. A fully fledged genius, I will never stop reading.

This has spoiled my day. I wanted him to go on for ever.One of the few I will say RIP. I have all The  Discworld books apart from the last couple. Part way through number 4 in the science series. A genius in the fantasy genre. A view of the world much like mine but I cannot put it into words as well.

One of my favourite extracts 9Reaper Man?0 was where Death went into a bar and started complaining saying no-one liked him.He also had a great name for a horse, Binky.

A poem (not my work)...

The sun goes down upon the Ankh,

And slowly, softly fades -

Across the Drum; the Royal Bank;

The River-Gate; the Shades.

A stony circle's closed to elves;

And here, where lines are blurred,

Between the stacks of books on shelves,

A quiet 'Ook' is heard.

A copper steps the city-street

On paths he's often passed;

The final march; the final beat;

The time to rest at last.

He gives his badge a final shine,

And sadly shakes his head -

While Granny lies beneath a sign

That says: 'I aten't dead.'

The Luggage shifts in sleep and dreams;

It's now. The time's at hand.

For where it's always night, it seems,

A timer clears of sand.

And so it is that Death arrives,

When all the time has gone...

But dreams endure, and hope survives,

And Discworld carries on.

RIP

A sad day indeed but we shouldn't dwell on the fact his life has ended but just be grateful that it ever began and that he was able to contribute so much in his time on this earth.

Death was one of the greatest book characters I've ever read.

Sad news. He wrote some magnificent books full of great characters. Love Vetinari, Vimes, Death, Rincewind and lots of others.

Death was one of the greatest book characters I've ever read.

He was, and instantly recognisable by the simple technique of CAPITALISATION I would always read people's shouty comments on the Internet in the voice of DEATH until I started spending more time on the net and less time reading Pratchett.

The guilds  were a great concept. The idea being that there are going to be thieving and murders anyway so why not keep it to those that have the right qualifications and set guidelines to how it can be done.

Just finished The Long Earth co-written with Stephen Baxter. Bought the follow ups from WH Smiths yesterday. Supposed to be a fourth and fifth Whether the last one will come about I don't know. The idea came when the two met at a convention and they discussed an unfinished idea written years ago by TP. SB added the hard core SF and Terry put in the humour side.

Reading some of the tributes on a Facebook page and found this.
