artursteppe Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 When this window closes, another one opens after a couple of games, for everyone outside the Prem, I believe. Every player at a Prem club who wants 'away' from his present club, to actually play football, will be gagging to join Sven's revolution. Sven would have his pick. For example if Mancini picks up a new keeper ( for cover ) later today, and Given does not get picked up by Arsenal or Villa ( or anyone else), then Given's only chance to play regular first team football will be in the Championship. Sven would step in. He is probably planning similar strategies for other players.( He can sign Ricardo anytime 'cos he is a free agent.) In Sven we trust!
SMX11 Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 I don't understadn why people are getting worried about the lack of activity today. The squad we have now is pretty formidable at this level and only quality signings are required now a la Abdoulaye Faye. Bringing people in for the sake of it is counter productive. I don't think Sven will bring in a centre half anyway, why the hell would he bring in Ben Mee and then bring in another loanee DC. I guess if Abdoulaye Faye or someone of his quality is available, Sven will try and take them. The only area I would like to see strengthening is the wide areas + Ricardo being brought in.
MikeyT Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 I'm sure Sven still has a few irons in the fire that he's trying to sort out.
Kitchandro Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 When does the loan window open? The last thing we need is to be bringing in loans in a month or so. We need some stability. Just bring in players today and then stick with what we've got. If Sven shows some faith in the players we've got we might just get some consistency. All this goalkeeper stuff is not that important, I don't think Weale's cost us many points this season and has been much better of late. Obviously I'd like Given but I don't want us to be chasing after him for the next couple of months. And I've never reated Ricardo. All we need is some cover in midfield, other than that our squad is good enough.
Corky Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Sven has done some business in this window, we've not been ripped off or made panic buys, I'm happy with our dealings on the whole.
cc_star Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Gone from expecting Ricardo, Faye & maybe a Sven-surprise to it being just Faye but only if Celtic aren't interested or fail to agree a deal is perhaps a tad disappointing, not disappointed as far as our team is concerned as we're strong enough to do some damage, but perhaps disappointing as far as some of our expectations of Deadline Day + The Sven-factor is concerned but we're coming out of January far stronger than when we went in with Yakubu, Bamba & maybe another first-teamer still to come Although the entertainment provided by Chelsea-Liverpool-Newcastle has kept me occupied today
Jackirius Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 I'm more than happy now, even if we do not sign anyone else. I genuinely trust Sven, he knows his shit, let him get on with it.

COME ON LEICESTAAAAA

I like weale and think we'd be fine to just keep him, go for an emergency loan if he gets injured (don't want to rely on logan) but to suggest he's better than ricardo is ludicrous.

Ricardo is old and was never that good. The only thing he was ever good at was penalties. Plus he's a dirty cheat. Don't want to see him anywhere near a Leicester shirt.
HankMarvin Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Define not that good his 34 and played over 80 games for Portugal, played in a European Championship final and he was named to the tournament All-Star team, as one of the three best goalkeepers 2006 worldcup. We are currently in the second tier of English Football just outside the playoffs, our current number one Chris Weale made 9 appearances in 3 years for Bristol City before we signed him and he has turned out a good signing so not sure how you can judge Ricardo as not that good, even if he comes in to add competition with Weale for the no1 spot

Finnegan Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 That Ronaldo? Eighty five million, thirty odd goals in the Prem, league winner, Champs League finalist. Don't want him here, I don't like him, he got Rooney sent off.

Besides you're comparing Ronaldo (who played for Man U and scored about 40 goals in a season) to Ricardo (a goalkeeper who's never played in England, as far as I know)
Captain... Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Define not that good his 34 and played over 80 games for Portugal, played in a European Championship final and he was named to the tournament All-Star team, as one of the three best goalkeepers 2006 worldcup. I always thought of him as a typical continental keeper, good shot stopper but a bit of a flapper on crosses, and clearing his box. It is also worth noting that above him on the goalkeepers of World Cup 2006 is Jens Lehman and I wouldn't want him between the sticks tomorrow night. That was over 4 years ago, and Ricardo is 34, I know he's a goalie but that is still old, and he hasn't played a league match for a season and a half. UEFA Euro 2008Despite some criticism, Ricardo remained the main goalkeeper for Portugal in Euro 2008. Portugal struggled initially but did qualify for the quarter-finals, and he played all of the side's matches, as Portugal was eliminated by Germany 3–2 in the quarter-finals, where he misjudged in two box exits, allowing two headers.[8] As he lost his position at Betis, Ricardo would not be called for the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, with Benfica's Quim being made the starter (although he would be also later replaced by Eduardo). He was also replaced by a man named Quim, he can't be that good.
FosseFox Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 The fact Carroll has gone for £35million shows the crazy lack of value in the January Transfer Window. Sven wouldn't buy anyone who isn't beneficial for the club, therefore the inflated fees mean many possible signings will be immediately stopped due to the requested fee. I think, to date, he's done a good job (Bednar noted).
Finnegan Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Sorry, I forgot you had to play in grade A league to be good enough for Leicester. I'm afraid your eighty caps for a top nation don't count, Mr. Ricardo, but thanks for your CV. We'll keep it on record if Buffon and Lloris turn us down.

Why is it you get so up tight when I have the opposite opinion to you? I'm not saying they don't count, but playing in the Premier league counts for more than playing in Portugal because it's a better league. And not all international goalkeepers are amazing you know. My opinion is he's not that good. Take a chill pill.
Finnegan Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Why is it you get so up tight when I have the opposite opinion to you? I'm not getting up tight, I am, in fact, quite merrily taking the piss. And it's not because your opinion isn't my opinion it's because you're being petulant because you don't "like" a player, something you're nearly always accusing the rest of us of should we dare criticise monsieurs Wellens or Gallagher.

OK why do you need to take the piss then? How am I being petulant exactly? All I've said is that I don't like him and I've never really rated him. At least I'm being honest enough to say I don't like him.
