leftsideoverhere Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Leeds will fight it out with Leicester for the signature of Southampton goalkeeper Kelvin Davis - if the Elland Road outfit win promotion to the Championship. Davis is out of contract in the summer. (Daily Mail) So we should have him in the bag, then, if we want him. Do we? As well as Stocky D and Mr Punch?
SamL Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 I'd be happy with Stockdale and Davis as our two Goalkeepers for next season.
Rise Against Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 If we can't get Stockdale are Martin this is a very intresting option. He gave a good solid season with The Saints this year, and if we can get him for free too, that's great.
City Lad Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Davis would be a very good singing imo. A good keeper, even if his team did just go down.
jimmy7587 Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 The Mail today has reported that we're after Southampton's keeper Kelvin Davis. May have to battle it out with Leeds but I fancy our chances at pipping them to his signature. He has experience and is a decent keeper, and on a free, do it Nige!

JoeyB Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 i remember when football manager had him valued at 7.5M Sign him!
breadandcheese Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 He's been southampton's best player this year, which I guess is probably not a great indicator bearing in mind their position, but the fact they didn't finish bottom is because of him. I'd probably rather Joe Murphy, Owen Fon Williams (especially seeing as Stockport are in administration) or Lee Camp (who would be going for cheap) but wouldn't say no to Davis. I'm also still a bit skeptical of Stockdale and haven't yet been too convinced from the games he's played.
Cobbo Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 I really do not rate this lad. I would have him on the bench, but I think we can do better for the first choice..
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Davis would be a very good singing imo. A good keeper, even if his team did just go down. Doesn't he have a habit of playing in relagated teams? Is their a link? But in fairness, he seems a decent keeper - of course most saying 'no' have seen a few ricks he pulled when playing for Sunderland in their Premiership doomed season. [edit] Sunderland Davis joined Sunderland in June 2005 for a fee of £1.25m[2] and played in most of their Premier League games in the 2005–06 season, as Sunderland were relegated with a points total of only 15. Davis had a difficult time at Sunderland, being criticised by fans for some errors made during important games culminating in an angry fan invading the pitch and abusing him. One of the most obvious was when he let in a 45 yard effort from Matthew Taylor of Portsmouth in October 2005.[5] Bit harsh - that Matt Taylor strike was quality. However things are looking up for him now... [edit] Southampton In an attempt to rebuild his career after his difficult spell at Sunderland, Davis joined Southampton in July 2006 for a fee reported to be around £1m. He linked up with former goalkeeping coach Malcolm Webster, who coached him during his spell at Ipswich. At Southampton, he was first choice goalkeeper for most of the 2006–07 season until a three-match ban relegated him to the bench where he remained after the return of Bartosz Białkowski. He was suspended for three games after kicking out at Stoke City's striker Jon Parkin on 10 March 2007[6]. His current contract with Southampton runs out in 2009. His form for Saints in the first half of the 2008-09 season has been impressive, despite the club's poor form. Southampton fans have voted Davis player of the month three times in the first five months of the season on the club's official website. And apparently he's a former 'Championship Goalkeeper of the Season' - now thats not the worst CV is it? Note he has also had fans abusing him like Ian Walker did.
RowlattsFox Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 I liked him in his Ipswich days but I don't think he's has good now as he was then. I seem to recall lots of mistakes, I think there are better out there.
Fox You Forest Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 We're getting Stocky-d in. On loan or permanent? Either way it's a good move.
Fox in a Box Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Nigel would know him from his southampton days, not a bad reserve keeper.
Salieri Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Stocky in on a season long loan and Davis in on a free. Good bit of business.
dandannieldanok Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Not a fan of Davis myself, prone to dropping clangers and I wouldn't say he's any better than mediocre.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 Surely Kelvin Davis would be better than a reserve keeper? I wouldn't mind getting him in at all.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 Surely Kelvin Davis would be better than a reserve keeper? I wouldn't mind getting him in at all. Bring back Gordon Banks. He would do much better than those mentioned, even now Having watched him play, he makes todays goalkeepers look like donkeys. Trouble with todays players is that the vast majority of fans have never seen REAL footballlers, or even watched a proper game. I am still Leicester mad, but we now have to put up with crap players, playings a pathetic excuse for football.
C-man Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 Every time Kelvin Davis has played at the Walkers he's been amazing. Especially when he was at Ipswich. If we signed him, surely that'd be a good omen?
