This goes two ways btw, not many people have engaged my points in good faith, mostly ridicule and derision when its actually a level headed albeit negative opinion because I am concerned about the long term ramifications of whats happening to the club. I have never once disagreed about the celebration, I dont know where thats come from. I have disagreed with the fact that we are going to do a celebration and then just handicap ourselves for a competitive game after just because of vibes? This is where people are getting mixed up and arent separating their emotions from the situation. Thank you. Theres nothing wrong with forgetting about it for one game i’m not calling for any protests or negativity surrounding the day itself. I’ve taken issue with the fact its been announced its his last game and for no other real reason then sentimentality we will be handicapping ourselves for the final game of the season where in fact there is something to play for. Theres a world where we can have both and I personally think the clubs financial future is more important than 500 or 501 on someones wikipedia page.
-
Hard to disagree with this, like it or not if RvN goes we will need a manager who knows how to operate on a budget and get the most out of what he has. We won’t have as much slack this time as we did last time we went down.
-
Do you think the club can afford right now to risk missing out on 1.5-2 million quid? Considering everything thats coming our way from the EFL? And be completely honest.
-
Its not misery its just an unbiased non emotional view of the situation, at some point high professional standards need to return to the club, i’ve never argued against a celebration not at all just the decision to handicap ourselves for the last game of the season and potentially allowing the player to dictate that. Vardy is still the most effective option we have. People can mock all they like with pictures of spreadsheets etc but it wasnt me who made the rules, it isnt me whos consistently f’d up the clubs finances and god forbid I care about the club enough to keep one eye on the future with these stupid rules.
-
You seem very angry by my opinion? In what world would an open stadium event charging a nominal fee for entry with lots of performances and stalls set up around the stadium etc to celebrate our greatest ever player and his achievements not make money? You’ve engaged in bad faith the entire time because my opinion doesnt match yours or the herds for that matter.
-
I’m fairly sure it would bring in more money than it would cost and you know it.
-
Again theres a couple million quid difference between 18th and 19th and for a relegated club with finances as mismanaged as ours that couple million could be all the difference. Theres nothing absolutely nothing stopping Sunday about being Vardys day and everyone enjoying it and celebrating the player just like theres also nothing stopping him from playing the week after either. We arent in a position to be excluding our best player and handicapping ourselves for sentimentality. A lot of people dont want to accept it but with PSR this is the reality of football now.
-
I’m sorry but when the future of the club and any success we may have is intrinsically tied to finances romance and sentimentality can take a back seat. Theres nothing stopping a send off on Sunday, theres nothing stopping the club from organising a carnival/party at the end of the season to celebrate everything Vardy has achieved and like it or not there shouldnt be anything stopping him from playing against Bournemouth and doing the job he’s paid to do.
-
But the player and club made this announcement prior to the game and by the logic you’re agreeing with me that if we do win the game we are intentionally handicapping ourselves for the Bournemouth game for sentimentality that could have waited until after the season had finished? I’m all for Vardy having a huge send off by the way and theres no doubt he’s our greatest ever but i’m not in the slightest bit impressed with how this has all been handled. It enforces the lack of professionalism thats been on display the entire season.
-
I’ve got plenty of issue with the club and its many transfer failings but it doesnt sit right with me that the club are allowing our best striker to sit out the last game of the season for sentimentality when there is something to play for. If it were any other player this place would be up in arms, i’m not begrudging Vardy of anything at all but its not the smartest move from either him or the club. A party at the stadium at the end of the season would have been far more fitting and appropriate.
-
I get where people are coming from and its a very emotional debate but theres a big wedge of money that is the difference between 18th and 19th and with our poor adherence to the rules every single penny is going to count. So there is a potential impact.
-
I’m not worried about demeaning myself. I’ve had plenty of digs about Rudkin. It is my opinion that the needs of the club far outweigh any sentimentality for a living legend. We are in dire financial straits due to crap rules like it or not so we need our best players giving 100% until the last possible moment. After such a poor season its not time to be sentimental, the club needs to be doing its best to put us on the best financial footing for the future, the sentimentality can wait until after. It wouldnt have taken much to open the stadium for Vardy once the season had finished and they’d have probably generated a bit of extra cash too. I imagine if we miss the rules by a fine margin and handicap ourselves next season the opinion on here would be very different.
-
That was far more constructive than your last 2 responses fair play.

We can celebrate past achievements at the end of the season when theres nothing to play for. Picture this, we are 1-0 to Bournemouth in the 92nd minute, chance falls to Daka who completely scuffs it misses and we end up losing the game and Ipswich pip us to 18th on GD we then go down and get a points deduction or another transfer embargo because we missed out on making the rules by 1.2 million pounds which we would have had if we finished 18th. Its an unlikely but not entirely impossible scenario and with our financial situation so dire and our future to look forward too we need to be parking all sentimentality until the end of the season.
-
In terms of needing a win i’d argue with our finances we’d need to win both games as the prize money for finishing 18th is over a million pounds more than for finishing 19th. I wouldnt say i’m angry but i’m of the opinion that there is still something to play for this season which will impact our future and we should not be allowing players legendary or not dictate wether they are available.
-
Not really? This is a place for sharing ideas and if you have no time for some of my ideas you don’t need to engage instead of throwing snarky comments. Its not entirely controversial or a miserable opinion to not want players to decide when they arent or are playing when drawing a wage from the club irregardless of past achievements.
-
No counter to any of my legitimate points apart from snark? Proves deep down you know i’m right.
-
Okay as i’ve said to other posters take past achievements and bias out of it and ask yourself how would you feel if Wout Faes decided he was leaving at the end of the season and didnt want to play any more games for us despite drawing a wage? Especially after such a shit season. It feels like some of them cant wait to get away quick enough.
-
Not really and if you took bias and past achievements out of the equation you’d feel the same. How would you feel if Wout Faes said he was leaving at the end of the season and then decided he didnt want to play the last game of the season after a poor season? Jamie is our best ever player and a living legend but that doesnt excuse him downing tools when we are paying him a wage. If he was retiring then fair enough but this absolutely stinks of one eye on the future.
-
Thats how it should have been handled. It rubs me the wrong way that its being framed as he’s decided to tap out when theres still prize money to play for which we are going down in breach or close to being in breach of financial rules needing every penny we can get. And he’ll still be drawing a wage???
-
Taking past achievements out of it and not being bias towards anything, if we are paying him a wage and he is fit then he more than certainly owes us, especially after this shitshow of a season as he called it. He should be running until the last minute. If any other player in the team done this everyone would agree with me and likely with harsher words. Being a legend has nothing to do with this.
-
Theres also an extremely cynical part of me that also thinks he’s tapping out early to avoid injury and put and future move in danger in what he essentially sees as a pointless game.
-
Maybe but the way its been sold as his decision just makes that player power myth all the more real. Also theres still prize money to play for because every single penny will count. I just dont think its the right way to announce it imo
-
As much as he is our goat theres just something that doesnt sit right with me with him effectively deciding he doesnt want to play in our last game of the season. We pay him an huge wage that has possibly hindered us this season the least he could do is be professional. The very least this could have been handled behind closed doors.
