I think you’d be absolutely crazy not to before an event like this. I wish before going into any work meeting where I was going to be questioned, I could find an internet place where I could gauge the thoughts and feelings of those doing the questioning.

We know we are better than Southampton and Ipswich, although being honest I haven’t looked at all at their transfer dealings. Forest, Brentford, Everton are the targets for us to go after. It’s really hard to say at the minute, especially not knowing about the points deductions we will face, and the deductions others around us will face. Squad wise, I think we’re a striker and a creative midfielder short of having a squad able to compete at mid table level. Can/will Alves be involved and step up? Can Vardy stay available and in form for 25+ games? Back line, keeper, full backs and dms look good enough to compete at the midtable level.

Leeds in 2004? With Mark Viduka, Alan Smith, Pennant, Batty, Milner, Robinson wall to wall internationals. Ours was bad, but all things considered that Leeds team was very similar to use, Champions league semi just a couple of years earlier. Huge players on huge wages and their crash was bigger. The biggest thing is the recovery, in similar circumstances, they never recovered - we bounced straight back

The sad fact is, if Leeds supporters do not totally kick off about this, then it will become common place within a year or two. Way to further take advantage of your most loyal supporters… Imagine charging extra for someone who pays everything up front, - what other business model does this or gets away with it?

Impossible to say, I remember watching Musa tear Barcelona a new one, and thinking what great business we’ve done here… Slimani the big powerful striker we’ve been missing, Musa the Vardy replacement, a young polish lad fresh from the Euros with the world at his feet, Mendy was going to be better than Kante and a German international goalkeeper - during preseason and on a high from winning the league it looked on paper to be an almost perfect window… I don’t think a single player signed them turned out to be any good long term. This window will be judged at the end of the season.

Thanks for the memories Gareth, will go down as one of the best England managers of all time, was exactly what was needed to bring the squad together and get England playing as one. Not sure what he does next, I just don’t see him as a day to day club manager. As for England, I how the next appointment is someone with international experience, some big shoes to fill and the pressure will be on like never before to take England to the next level.

This squad is nowhere near as talented as the squads from 1996 - 2010. Look at the 2006 World Cup for example, how many of this squad get into the starting 11? Pickford maybe? And look how that turned out? Scraped past Trinidad and Tobago and Ecuador before going out with a whimper. No one is saying Southgate is a great manager, and I think it’s time for him to pass over the reigns, but it’s wrong to say this is the most talented squad we’ve had or the easiest run we’ve had. Let’s face it, England beating top teams in major tournaments just doesn’t happen and never has under any manager. So to say anyone could have taken this team to back to back finals and a World Cup semi is just wrong - they couldn’t and they haven’t.

Yet no one before him has done it in almost 60 years!

To be fair, before him we didn’t have a sniff of a final or semi for a long time. We’ve never had two finals in a row. He’s not perfect by a long shot, but he’s done better than almost anyone else in his role. It’s time now for him to walk away, but I’ll be fascinated to see if we can get anyone who can go a step further, or was the last few years as good as it gets following England.
