I suspect he’s paid a pittance. He’s fine. Some of the other commentators around the country sound like they’re half way through a cheese and pickle bap and a pint of Old Thumper when they commentate. Proper CAMRA badgers -
Last season they stopped me going in with a woeful pie and chips I’d bought in haste at one of the vans behind the East stand. Not sure what they thought I’d do with it

My goodness we’d be weak without our overseas players. Week in, week out. Handscomb has been excellent. -

Agree with you. Apparently he’s the nicest chap imaginable and he will be embarrassed and perplexed by his performances. -

Cox missing for the second week in a row. Not listed as injured. -

Josh Hull added to the England squad for the second test. I think that might give us some much needed money ! -
In the case of this particular game all those who left early have been receiving regular counselling since the time we hosted Spurs in 2022, and had been advised to do this to protect their mental health.

No shame in losing to Somerset, who are an excellent club and have been for years. County can be proud of their tournament. if we can pick up a couple of wins in the last few 4 day games this will have been a very decent season -

And indeed the rugger buggers. Given rugby is traditionally a more middle class sport, astonishing there isn’t greater crossover -
Well, some common sense would have been helpful. We have a limited budget. We know and accept that. So why spend (and I’m guessing here) a quarter of it on a centre back when we have loads of centre backs? I was expecting some logic.

Remember Currie was playing for us on loan last season, and then against us for Hampshire in the final! -

I’m not a huge Olympics fan, but looking at this highlights packages it is hard not to admire the sheer scale of the thing. And to enjoy a global festival of sport. We have such potential as a species. We just need to stop allowing lunatics to run the place. -

If true, that’s pretty horrendous given we get about 75% of our income from ECB grants. We don’t even have a vast playing staff anymore. Let’s hope it’s not completely accurate. Who is Bill Maddy by the way? -

That’s one of the bravest wins of recent times. A similar flow as last year’s final, and most welcome distraction from the shit show down the road! -

Good perspective. We’re getting cross about us not qualifying these days, as opposed to barely winning a single game. Would be nice to think two or three Academy lads could come forward in the next couple of seasons. -

Because a shorter chase is easier than a longer chase. The Duckworth - Lewis formula is pretty darn good -

Quite so. Most of the other commentators sound like lifelong members of CAMRA who don’t tend to do well with people -
Of course suggesting all Argentinians are racist because one of them sang a racist song is in itself racist. that’s not meant to sound quite as sanctimonious as it probably does.

Sadly not this year. It’s where I was born and grew up and I loved my day at the match there last year. Work calls this time. Hope it’s a great day tomorrow -

Excellent game of cricket, and we just about held our nerve to get over the line. -

It’s fascinating. Whereas our economic dominance meant we once plundered/educated the rest of the world, we are now beholden to the financial strength of India and China. The axis of power shifts relentlessly from west to east -

Personally I feel that for a club that has won so few games over the last decade or more, frankly, we need wins. Wins give us hope that better days may lie ahead. We’ve done ok giving youngsters a chance, with Rehan and Josh coming to mind. One or two injuries and the lads you mention could have their day, too. -

Looked like a decent crowd at Chelmsford. Feels like the Metro Cup is establishing itself, and is almost refreshing as it levels the playing field somewhat -

£8 for the whole of September. Potentially 8 days of cricket available in this trial. The club has to generate income some how.
