Premier League, 2017-2018 Season Thread
nnfox replied to UPinCarolina's topic in Leicester City Forum
I heard that his weekly wage was going to be significantly less than 140k but with lots of bonuses to make up for it. As long as he stays fit and scores goals, he'll get by. -
I read it that there is a minimum of 1000 tickets for those with 20+ points and 1000 for the ballot. I suspect that there will be good deal more available for most games BUT it sounds like regardless of how many points you have, you are not guaranteed a ticket. So, if you qualify for priority purchase, do you still enter the ballot?

Spurs have played an absolute blinder with that deal. £50,000,000. For Kyle Walker! That said, Tottenham's full backs have been instrumental to their (nearly) success over the last couple of years. I guess Trippier could step up for them, but if anything happens to him, they might struggle to reach the same heights. -

You are totally right. It is nice to hear someone promote the possibility of expanding ones income, instead of cutting expenses. it is why I get up at 5.30 every morning and study for an hour or two before I go to work, then do another couple of hours in the evening after the children have gone to bed. Right now, the price I have to pay is that I miss out on the daily conversations in the office about Love Island. #priceworthpaying There are always circumstances beyond people's control, I get that. But by and large, people should take responsibility for their own life, there is too much tolerence of people getting away with blaming others for their own problems. You have to take responsibility for getting out of the whole, regardless of how you ended up in it. I get blaming others for where you are, but if you are able, then you should 100% take ownership of your future. Yes. I agree. I once heard someone talk about in the past, if you reached zero, then you were finished and you had to start again. Nowadays you can whistle straight past zero and keep going, no problem. I fell into this trap a long time ago and am still paying for it now. It is my fault, nobody elses. My life back then was focussed on purchasing the perception of wealth, instead of being wealthy, it boils down to very poor decision making. Now, I make much better decisions, but the last few years have been tough and I am still saddled with the poor decisions of the past. I honestly believe that Personal Finance and Wealth Creation should be taught on the National Curriculum - kids would love it and it would be much more useful than History or Drama. I agree with this to a degree too. I do think that successive governments have enjoyed increased living standards over the last 20 years, but this has been more about easier access to credit on a personal level than better paid jobs. Effectively, the lending companies have bailed the government out and papered over the cracks. Your point about public sector is valid too. I know lots of people in the public sector that are at the end of their tether, and now they are starting to jump ship. A good friend of mine was a police officer with about 13 years experience. She was a detective in the fraud department. The hours she worked was not conducive to a happy home life, at any one time she would have 20-25 active, complex investigations to manage, from time to time she had to work nights which was not part of her normal duties and getting time off was very difficult. Now she has taken her experience and works for a bank, investigating fraud. She works from home 3 days a week, largely sets her own hours, has a greatly reduced workload, less pressure and gets paid more. She hung on as long as she could but in the end, the sums just didn't add up so she left. With the cuts to training budgets and recruitment over the years, there is no ready made replacement for her, so her workload just gets added to the colleagues she left behind. Not good. -

I have a good friend who works in the Houses of Parliament and has good access to a lot of influential people. I asked them this same question a couple of weeks ago. Their response was "before the end of the year". Obviously politics is fairly fluid and things change, but sooner rather than later. -
Glass bottle all the way!

Quite likely? I'd be amazed.

Everything will be ok in the end. To be fair, the EU are coming across as bitter and spiteful at the moment. Things will calm down and people will start being sensible. Whatever the deal in the end will be, German car manufacturers, who bank roll the German government, will still sell their cars in the UK market without hitting their profits (or raising their prices). -
Legalise ALL drugs. Get proper information out there about the positive and negative side effects so people can make informed choices about their consumption. Tax them so that those that suffer the negative, long lasting side effects that create serious harm to their physical and mental health, can be cared for.

Looks like we're staying at home this summer but have 4 nights in Vegas in October for our wedding anniversary and 4 nights in Ibiza next June with the guys.

Who knows what's next. I expect another general election before there is talk of a referendum to appease the remainers. May and Cameron were remainers. How popular would they be now? -
Haters gonna hate.

I was talking to my MK Dons season ticket holding mate who I consider quite knowledgeable about the game. In summary, Harvey is nailed on for their player of the season. He is consistently their best player. Plays best on the wing when he can cut in along the 18 yard line for a shooting opportunity and has a quality strike on him too. Last two or three games he has played a more central role and has been less effective (but still the best player in the side). Not sure how he'll do in the prem, still some work to do but we should expect Championship teams to be queueing up trying to sign him on a season long loan next year which should be good for his development. Certainly one for the future.

Chris Sutton is the worst. Absolutely hates us. Was desperate for us not to win the league. -
Try not to suck Try not to suuuuuck We're Leicester City Please try not to suck

Actually, I worked it out and disappointingly you would get around 9/1 - 10/1 so 25/1 is exceptional value I would say. Taking it one step further if you backed Newcastle to score in every game (i.e. the opposition to not keep a clean sheet) as a rolling accumulator, assuming odds of 1/5 in each game, would give effective odds of 4387/1. Worth thinking about!

There are a small percentage of trained and licensed firearms officers. Those that are are highly trained, those that aren't have no formal firearms training. There is no way that an untrained officer would be handed a gun.

In the last 20 seasons, if you ranked teams on major domestic trophies won (Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup), then the table looks like this: 1. Man Utd 2. Chelsea 3. Arsenal =4. Man City =4. Liverpool 6. Leicester City 7. Spurs

Quite a bit of love for us on the twoplustwo poker forum. Thread is about English football and chat is dominated by a few Arsenal/Spurs/ManU/Liverpool fans but general consensus is that we are well loved by most although they don't know much about us. We would be mad to sell in January, we have a great chance of CL football although one guy thought it would ruin English football's coefficient score as we would do so badly. There was an Arsenal fan on there rooting for us every week, wanting us to win the league unless it became a two horse race between us and them and even then he wouldn't mind us winning! A few extra signings and we are in with a real chance. Someone suggested we try to sign Adebayor! :xmaslaugh:

And scored 3 goals in each of the last 4 away games. Impressive

Lawro is starting to really do my head in now. I watched it too. "Leicester won't win the league" "Why not?" "Because they won't, they can't" "But why not?" "I'll give you whatever odds you want. They won't win it" "But it's easy to say that, why can't they?" "One injury to Vardy and that's the end" The thing is he is probably right that we won't win it but for all the wrong reasons. Such a ****.
-
Apparently the records show that we should finish in the top four this season. The problem is that we are record breakers - Vardy obv, and last season wasn't there a record about no team being bottom for so long surviving. I just hope we stay steady now!

I'm glad to be corrected. I'm just sitting a little bit in disbelief that here we are, a group of Leicester City fans, actually having a semi-serious discussion about the finer details of Champions League qualification!
