Yes, let's be honest we're not as much of a free hit as some are making out. If he fails here he would really struggle to get another prem job IMO. So he obviously backs himself.
Here’s the problem.
We get 40m, great!
But we lose a passionate home grown player, and risk replacing with a 20m Soumare / Adrian silva / Praet that quickly becomes a wage burden and offers nothing.
Copper has his own reputation to worry about by coming to us. Of course we’re expected relegation anyway but if we are complete dross all year and end on a ridiculously low tally, his stock won’t exactly be high for another job. You have to remember he’s still got 20+ years to work in management so he obviously backs himself to be able to keep us up.
They have made mistakes but surely you just have to look at the countless cases of bad ownership as a barometer to see how decent ours are.
They aren’t the best but most certainly are nowhere near the worst, look at Burnley taking loans against themselves or teams appointing Wayne Rooney when in a decent position already.
Anyone else think the atmosphere and mentality around the ground could really improve next season due to the backs to the wall nature of what awaits us?
We will likely be fighting relegation with no budget, a new manager and a points deduction. Anything more than 17th by one point will be a bonus.
