With seven academy graduates in the squad as well (five on the pitch). Appreciate it was a lowly opposition, but I feel like the negativity on this place is so over the top.

It's good to keep the opposition guessing who we'll pick. We have six versatile players for the front line, offering various combinations that can change our playstyle and keep opponents on their toes. There are two pacey threats (Mavididi or Fatawu), two experienced grafters (Ayew or Decordova), and two creative options (Buenonatte or Bilal). It's a solid mix of youth and experience. None are world-class (yet!) but some have potential to develop well. (A centre forward would be nice too, please!) -

Well our fans moan when we buy established Prem players like Decordova Reid and Ayew. Then again, our fans still moan when we buy lesser known prospects like Okoli and Bilal Ultimately, unless you're paying top prices it's always going to be a gamble. It's right to get a mix of profiles. -
Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis

I think there will be a striker coming in on loan. Probably Fofana from Chelsea, or some unknown I've never heard of! -

I'd not heard of him until last week but seems like an exciting signing. Gerr'im in! -
Jordan Ayew - NEVER PLAYING FOR LEICESTER AGAIN!!!
LeePhilpottsBaldSpot replied to moore_94's topic in Leicester City Forum
Nice one. Ayew is no superstar but this idea he's an absolute donkey unable to contribute anything is just bizarre. He has played in the Premier League for 10 years, started regularly in a decent team last season. Highly rated by multiple managers, popular with his ex club's fans and won dozens of international caps. I hope the "supporters" who arrogantly wrote Ayew off when he was linked get behind him now he's a Leicester player. -
Jordan Ayew - NEVER PLAYING FOR LEICESTER AGAIN!!!

I get it's Tranmere and I don't want to suggest that he'll score like that every week, but hopefully the level of disrespect reduces now. He's a decent player! -
Different people like different players. He's not the sort of player I like as a centre back - too unreliable, sloppy and hot-headed. Re his attitude... Wanted to leave when we got relegated https://foxesofleicester.com/2023/08/11/leicester-city-cb-leave-club-window/ Said if he has a good Euros he hopes to get a move https://www.caughtoffside.com/2024/06/04/leicester-ace-admits-he-could-leave-after-euro-2024-if-he-has-good-campaign/ Now complaining about playing left side of centre back and publicly throwing his teammates under the bus. Maybe some of this is media spin but he seems to be an arrogant arsehole - and his performances do not remotely merit him thinking he's better than Leicester City Football Club.

Soumaré - Sevilla currently - They have no cash
LeePhilpottsBaldSpot replied to Sly's topic in Transfer Talk
Yes please. When he came into the team under Dean Smith you could see a decent player in there. But he always seems so miserable and lethargic, can't imagine he's good for team spirit. Hopefully we can shift him permanently but I'd rather he went somewhere on loan if that's all we can do. -
Fair point but Faes' top flight record for Leicester has been abysmal. Not all his fault obviously but his performances and attitude have been poor as well. There's a strong argument for cutting loose while he's still got enough time on his contract for us to get a decent fee. (Would have been far better to do so at the start of the summer, of course...).
-
A great player in his day, but surely too old to be paired with Veste or Coady. Wouldn't be against us going in for Alfie Jones (Hull) or Dael Fry (Boro). Both mid 20s and could offer some solidity and physicality at the back, and much cheaper than what we'd sell Faes for.
-
Never taken to him. He's not a dreadful player but I like my centre backs to be reliable. A shame this didn't happen at the start of the summer, but it would fit Faes' playing style to leave it til the last minute then scramble manically to get it done...

I get the frustration but it's just not true to say we've done nothing. The club has already spent about £60m and is seemingly still in the market for one or two more. £20m on Skipp, £17m on Fatawu, £14m on Okoli, £5m on Ayew, £5m on Golding. All but one of those are young players with their best years ahead of them.
-
Yeah that's a logical, if depressing, theory

The curious case of Ricardo Pereira

He was our best player last season and always seems a good guy off the pitch too. Hopefully he gets back into the team soon. -

£5m really isn't much these days. We invest a lot more in younger players £23m Skipp (23) £17m Fatawu (20) £14m Okoli (23) £9m Cannon (20) £8m Hermansen (24) £4m Golding (18) To me, £5m for a tried and tested player who can play in a number of positions is good business. I have a good feeling he'll work out. Anyway back on topic, I've never heard of this Moroccan lad but if he's as good as people make out he'd be a great signing! -

Appreciate the frustration at lost targets, but we have signed plenty of exciting young players in the last 12 months. Fatawu (20), Hermansen (24), Skipp (23), Okoli (23), Cannon (20) and Golding (18) all on permanents, as well as Doyle (19), Casadei (20) and Buononatte (20) on loan. This idea we only sign old timers with no future or resale value is just not factually true. -
Jordan Ayew (interest confirmed by Percy)
LeePhilpottsBaldSpot replied to iancognito's topic in Transfer Talk
Good signing - he'll be a useful addition -
Is Skipp available to play? Maybe even if eligible he'll be a sub while he builds up fitness, but as he knows Winks already I'd be tempted to start him straight away. Hermansen Pereira Faes Veste Justin Winks Skipp Fatawu Buononatte Mavididi Vardy Not confident for this one, but hoping for a good performance!

The price really isn't that much. £1.7m per season, rising to £2.7m if we stay up. His g/a isn't great but Palace fans really rate him. I bet he'll have a more positive impact while costing a lot less than a lot of our more glamorous signings like Ayoze Perez, Ahmed Musa and Patson Daka. -
Another CB - Odilon Kossounou (Bayer Leverkusen)
LeePhilpottsBaldSpot replied to Happy Fox's topic in Transfer Talk
From first impressions he seems better than what we've got, but would mean we have far too many centre backs. I doubt this is true but if it is, Okoli is already feeling like a bust (mad to say about somebody who hasn't played a game!). -
Jordan Ayew (interest confirmed by Percy)
LeePhilpottsBaldSpot replied to iancognito's topic in Transfer Talk
The length of the contract is presumably to reduce the PSR cost. If he signs for say £6m, a one year contract would be on the books for £6m whereas a three year contract would be £2m per year. Probably very little returns if he stays that long, but at that price it's basically nothing each season. Tbh I don't get why people are so upset about this. Yeah he's old and not a world beater, but he's been consistently picked for teams that had no trouble staying up. Palace message boards / Twitter suggests he's a tidy player they'll miss. Fingers crossed he does a job if he comes here. -
We were linked with him a few years ago, I believe
-
Really good second half, even more positive after such a potentially demoralising first half. Never shied away and kept being present and positive, even when things weren't going well. That bodes very well for the future. Fatawu has raw talent but also has the fight in him to battle adversity and improve. We could have a proper talent on our hands here...
