English teams were a long way from playing the total football of the 70s that Ajax played. Bill Shankley once said that English fans wouldn’t want to watch the slow build up of play which the European teams played. It has taken managers like Wenger and Guardiola to make this revolution. The playing out from the back between.the keeper and defenders, who takes some perfecting. I don’t think the idea is to keep passing amongst themselves until the keeper comes under pressure and boots it upfield. It took Man City a few years to get it right. City’s team of the 90s won us trophies. A team with Izzett, Parker and Guppy, would not need to resort to “hoofball”.

Thank you all ver6 much for the info. Extremely helpful. 👍👍

Due to potential mobility issues next season, can someone point me in the right direction for info re. Coalville to the KP supporters bus travel? Thank you in advance.

I enjoy visiting the Memorial Garden and think that bearing in mind Vichai’s influence on the Club, do not find it in appropriate for it to be dedicated to him. Whenever the anniversary is celebrated, the other victims are always rightly remembered.

We’ve also beaten them

Vesty just shaded it but Hamza was brilliant.

Standard procedure this season seems to be an apology from Howard Webb for ref. mistakes. It may have been a Championship match but Pawson is one of his team. I won’t hold my breath. -
Re. The Cov fans, I’m afraid I’m missing the point too. They all reacted to the goal as normal, then we are seeing the players celebrating. Were the Cov fans supposed to run on the pitch? Please don’t mention the dreadful and pathetic “limbs”! The post the other day of Rotherham fans’ posed for “limbs”, was pathetic.

Can’t believe the amount of reaction to this error. Yes Winks miscued the pass and it led to a goal. Fortunately it didn’t cost any points. If it had, then it would have been annoying but so many goals are scored from mistakes somewhere on the pitch.. As for blaming Mads, that move is made many times during a game and except on the odd occasion, does not cause a panic. We won and carry on rocking back to the PL. Winks has had a tremendous season and will continue to be influential for City.

Don’t know if you’ve noticed but after 84 mins tonight at Villa Park, there are lots of empty seats as fans have left early! Also, there were a few boos at half time. Waiting to see the reaction at full time. As has been said before, all fans are basically the same. Sorry, but we’re not the worst in the country.

I dread to think what this forum would be like if we were mid table and not flying high at the top of the league. Presumably the tea lady recruited Maresca while Top was on holiday. Enzo is an inexperienced manager who has been given the chance to manage a recent Premier League Champion club. He’s doing a great job but needs to be a little less needy. Also, various comments seem to think we wouldn’t be an attractive prospect if offered for sale. Why on earth not? Too many doing our club down. So Sensi didn’t work out, we’ve managed well enough with what we have, only 4 teams have beaten us and we’ve won against 18. Stop panicking and acting as though we’re in the bottom half of the table. There won’t be a shortage of players wanting to join us when we get promoted. Up the City.

Because football brings out such strong and spontaneous reactions, when there’s a miscontrol, like KDH, or when a promising piece of play stops because the ball is played back and back again, there is naturally a collective groan. This plays out in matches everywhere. Same as when a good piece of play is shown appreciation. I’m very happy with our position and playing style but think Enzo is a bit unfair with his comments. Has anyone actually heard him saying this or has it had a spin put on it.

With regards to managers asking for more support from the fans, how many times has Pep done the same at Man City? We actually do show support by turning up during freezing winter nights and difficult roadwork problems. My frustration with the current style is when we pass between the keeper and defenders so many times, that we are put under pressure by the opposition, and mistakes made, leading to potential goals when we are only a goal in front. The way we started on Tuesday, I thought was great and some lovely football played. Should have been 2 in front at halftime. I also get annoyed with the recent habit of players throwing their arms in the air at the fans to gee them up. There are ways of communicating the need for encouragement rather than treating us as though we’ve been given free tickets and should make more noise. Whatever you say about organised singing, what happens on the pitch evokes a response from the crowd. A spell of attacking football naturally gets fans excited whereas too much play between the keeper and centre backs causes anxiety. We are top of the league and probably need another 7 wins to guarantee promotion. Up the City.

For those of you who like to see the players’ stats at half time on the screens in the concourse, you may need to take them with a pinch of salt. On Saturday at half time, Ricardo had something like 23 touches in the 1st half and made 2 tackles. Quite remarkable to do that from the bench😉

Coventry still have to play Leeds and Ipswich at home and away to Saints, in April. It’s a tough place to go right now.

PET HATES FROM COMMENTATORS/PUNDITS
OnlyOneCity replied to OnlyOneCity's topic in General Football and Sport
Darren Fletcher on BT Sport, NEVER shuts up! -
Because I like to hear the crowd noise at matches on TV, I have to have the commentaries too. My current pet annoyances from Commentators/pundits are: calling midfield playmakers - QUARTERBACKS; some one putting over a DELICIOUS cross; OVERTIME instead of added time. This may sound petty but really grates. I’m sure there are more!

The goal against Man. City when he laid the ball on a plate for Vards, was absolutely sublime. I’m sure if Man. City or Liverpool had scored a goal like that, it would be shown over and over. Brilliantly gifted player and his control of a long high ball, was worth the ticket money alone. Pity he left on a sour note, but will always have legendary status due to his contribution to the title.

Happy birthday Jamie. Hope we see him back and on the score sheet very soon.

Fox Forever, that was an incident I was particularly thinking of. As you say, 9 times out of 10, a free kick is awarded against the forward. He did seem to take a moment to consider the situation then gave a corner. I don’t think the defender had the nerve to contest it. -

As soon as I saw he was the ref. I was interested to see if he reffed as well as his previous match. He was excellent again and let the match flow whenever he could. I think the players realised he wouldn’t be “conned” at any point and therefore lessened any bookings for rolling round when hardly touched, and getting an opponent booked. He officiated in the PL a couple of weeks ago and was top notch again. -
The chant that used to be sung at the early leavers in the 60s was “ Part time supporters” to the old Bring on the Champions tune. Sorry, a bit tame.
-
To “do a spurs”, we’d have had to be top for only about 10 minutes all season, not a number of weeks.

Comparing commitment of players downing tools to someone leaving early is ridiculous .Players are paid to play football, that is their job. Supporters pay to go to games, therefore not the same at all. I don’t leave earlier and get annoyed with those who do, but then stop on the stairs to watch if there’s a corner or free kick, blocking other fans’ view. Also, citing other teams’ wonderful fans means you have probably forgotten that these teams also experience apathy. How many times in the last few years has Pep had a go at Man. City fans for their lack of noise. This season, Forest fans have been nowhere near as vociferous as last season and have booed the team off more than once. I’m really impressed that some of you on here have taken the time to assess the age groups of all other teams’ fans and decided we have the oldest. Does this mean that due to longevity, we are the most loyal? There are plenty of younger fans who don’t contribute noise wise. There are too many dictators on here who seem to think that having a ST for years because of support and love for the club, is somehow morally wrong! Perhaps those who suggest that the longtime fans only attend because of habit, have no money worries. Why would we fork out upwards of £400.00 each year plus match day expenses just because we can’t be bothered not to renew?
-
Shepshedfox, someone spending their hard earned money for the match and choosing how to support the team, is not the same as the players doing what they like because they get paid to play. It’s completely different. As far as I can see, the players are giving their all. Presumably, if they went to a concert or similar, and wanted to leave early, having paid for their ticket, that would be their choice.
