Development/Youth Squads 2025/2026 Thread - U18/U21

Hutchinson has looked good at u21 level when he has played as well. It might be that they want him to be a regular starter with competition at striker in the u21s coming from Evans, Popov and Otchere. There is a strong risk he stagnates at that level as well, same with Evans. -

Jake Evans is in a strange limbo where he's outgrown U21 football but he's also not getting minutes off the bench or getting onto it when Monga is available. His opportunity will hopefully come in the FA cup although im not holding my breath. -
We probably could have gotten £3-4mil for him in the summer. Now we'll be lucky to get £1mil, will leave via mutual contract termination if had to guess.

People need to get over this Michail Antonio nonsense. Yes he was a good striker 4 years ago but now he's winding down his career, West Ham fans were saying he lost his legs last seasond and that was before the car crash, for a player that is reliant on strength and power that is incredibly worrying. He had 1 goal in 800 minutes last season in the PL, those are Patson Daka numbers. After an injury like that he might not be match fit for the rest of this season and when he is match fit there's a good chance he's no better than the terrible 3 we already have. We should be prioritising a player in Jake Evans who has a future at the highest level of the game, not someone who's best day's are in the past and who could retire tomorrow and it wouldnt surprise anyone. For me it's an absolute no brainer to prioritise Jake Evan's game time over relying on output from a 35 year old post car crash Antonio. I actually find it a bit silly that some fans see this as a sensible move.

Bit of a reach there? Im happy with Nelson as he is, being a defender is primarily about defending which he is very good at despite being only 21, being good on the ball is only a bonus. He haa shown that he has that 'on the ball ability' in his locker in the past so im surprised that he's not shown it yet this season, but I'll reiterate it's only a bonus to have on top of his very good performance today.

I am a bit worried that his passing seems worse than it was last time in the championship. Not sure if it's a coaching issue but he seems to have lost his composure on the ball.
-
Don't think he would have kept us up but would have saved us £13mil on Okoli (and £7.5mil the year before on Coady if we trusted him then)
-
likely to stay at Newport.

How can anyone have seen the Sheffield United game and say that Begovic should start again at any point this season?
-
How refreshing is it to have a centreback that isnt prone to defensive errors? Feels very safe with him at the back.

Hermansen did that hospital pass a few times when he was here, it happens.
-
He didn't use to be that way.

Wtfff

Like clockwork Ayew actually does a good player after this
-
He should hook him at half time
-
Almost like pressing is impossible when you have a mardy Winks jogging around.
-
Sadly this is correct, Evans could be better if he was given a run in the side.
-
All that money spent on strikers and they still starting with George Hirst
-
Good new on Ramsey, looked impressive before his injury.
-
We should have a look at Wayne Rooney. Retired 4 years ago but only 40 and used to be a world class player, if we can get him fit he will at least be better than Daka and Carranza
-
Id completely forgotten he has just come back from a life threatening car crash at 35. If he'd broken his leg playing football that's one thing but Antonio really should be retired after an accident like that at his age, why are we considering this.
-
He was a nightmare for our defenders to play against a few years ago but I understand he's washed now? We dont need more experienced pros running down their career here, we need to be thinking of the future and developing the young talent we have in Monga, Evans and Hutchinson who will be competing for the same positions. The win now approach at the expense of squad planning does not work.

You're clearly watching a different player to me, Winks doesnt show frustration, he shows apathy and a lack of effort. If he was frustrated and giving it his all despite the manager then im sure everyone on here would back him. As someone who cant stand him when he played like he did against Hull, leaving his all on the pitch, I had to hold my hands up and commend the tenaciousness he showed that day. Sadly that's a rarity for him and he quite often doesnt apply himself, pulls out of tackles and doesnt track runners. When you look at Jordan James next to him you can see the real difference that a player applying themselves makes and Winks does not do that. He has been awful for 2/3 of his time here despite clearly being talented and yet for some reason I cant call a spade a spade and say he's checked out.

It's pretty obvious he's got an attitude problems from his behaviour on the pitch. His poor body language and lack of effort are plain to see for everyone as well as him storming down the tunnel multiple times at the beginning of this season. If you saw a man coming up to an old lady at a crossing and instead of helping her he punched her and stole her handbag you should be able to infer that he's a twat without meeting him. It's the same with Winks, we have enough evidence to infer that he's got an attitude problem.

He's fine to be sceptical of the manager but considering the wage he's being paid he still needs to be putting in 110% effort everytime he steps on the pitch and in training. Too often he's clearly not bothered and is a liability.
