How much did Chelsea ruin us this season?
honeybradger replied to An Away Move's topic in Leicester City Forum
The KDH and Maresca sales were not in the same accounting period as the Skipp, Reid etc buys. Selling kristiansen would have resulted in a further loss as sales go on the accounting books as (sell value) - (purchase value)*(years since purchase/contract length) and we wouldnt have been able to sell for £10mil. -

We were outplayed by Ipswich and Southampton under Cooper, the only reason he got points against them (half his points tally) were them getting two silly red cards. He benched Fatawu and Ricardo, signed Ayew, Cordova Reid and Skipp. Cooper was a horrible manager for us, the best thing he did was getting sacked and getting replaced by Van Nistelrooy as it made him look half competent in comparison. I say this as someone who thought he would do a job for Leicester when he signed because of what he did at Forest so I had no bias against him. -

This is why I will not have any Steve Cooper revisionism. Him benching Pereira in favour of Justin/Kristiansen was such a horrible decision. -
I think it's one of the few blessings this club have that we have a 15 year old at Monga's level. It's strange to me that you seem to want to paint it as a negative. In my opinion it was more of a sign of where we are as a club when we brought in 33 year old Jordan Ayew, 29 year old Reid and 24 year old Skipp to keep us in the PL. Recognising a young player's ability early on in his career and giving him opportunities at u21 and even senior level is something a progressive and well run club would do, these are the kind of decisions we need to be making if we want to become a respectable outfit again.
-
No one's expecting him to come in and provide miracles ffs. Why are the standards for young academy players so much higher than our 'seasoned pros'? All he has to do is come in and play at the same or lower level than Ayew and Reid have been allowed to play at all season. The standards should be lower for young players, i have more tolerance watching them put in a below Premier league level performance than our highly paid so called 30 yr old veterans.

All he has to do is be the same or better than Ayew, Reid, Bouanaotte, Daka etc. A few nice touches is an improvement on what we already have.

I think if we invest the 25mil we spent on skipp on 3 good players we have a chance of staying up. We were more likely to spend our budget wisely under Enzo than Cooper. -
I'm surprised we've had any

This heap of crap is built upon the foundations he laid here. Faes, Vestergaard, Kristiansen, Soumare, Daka, Justin all brought in under his tenure. He's the anti Pearson

Just there for show sadly and potentially to increase his compensation fee. Everything about the club is really sickening right now.

You've got to feel for Coulibaly, looked OK when played and not even making the bench now

The club are going to give Monga his first team debut tonight to spite anyone who chose to watch the u21s instead by the way. -
Ben Nelson - loan to Oxford United - Official

The fact that he's 21 and only has 6 appearances for us is really really shocking from the club. I say 'shocking' but it's expected at this point, the club seem set on not giving him a chance, rather bring in a new centreback every summer ie. Coady, Okoli and resign Vestergaard for 3 years. -
The second we saw articles that Martin was a 'Brendan Rodgers regen' you just knew that they club are going to move Heaven and Earth to make him our manager.
-
Got more about him than Skipp at least but I'd prefer they are both moved on.
-
This but Cartwright or Baybrooke or Choudhury or the cleaning lady instead of Skipp.

Best team atmosphere - the whole squad apparently despite getting bent over every week. -

When Nelson started whilst Vestergaard was injured Coady went and did an interview with the media saying he joined us to play games and that he's always ready. Word is that he wasn't happy being lower in the pecking order than a youth player and was putting pressure on Maresca to start him at the expense of Nelson. -

How is playing with Coady going go help Nelson's development? Coady threw a fit last season when Nelson was ahead of him in the pecking order, he only cares for himself. -

Okoli's ok, probably the best of a bad bunch but he does have the tendency to pass the ball straight to the opposition and isn't great in the air. The amount of green stats for him is a bit misleading, this is Van Dijk for example. the important thing for a defender is the percentage success of aerials, tackles, number of errors and whether they lose the ball in dangerous positions, not the total number of tackles, interceptions etc. -

Here's a comparison between Nelson and our other centre backs. Importantly he wins the vast majority of his tackles, something that only Okoli is good for and he's the only one to not make any errors this season. Frankly him starting will be a breath of fresh air next season and it's a sign of the state the club are in that we loaned out our only defender who isn't error prone (arguably our best centre back as well). Ben Nelson Wout Faes Vestergaard Okoli Coady Souttar -
The West Ham squad is good. Bowen, Alvarez, Kudos, Paqueta is a solid spine that a good manager could get a strong run of results out of.

To think we were obsessed with signing Potter for years... Awful awful manager.

We've crumbled as a club so quickly that you're delayed by about 4 years. We're no longer bottling champions league places, we currently can't score a goal at this level. It's not about being able to compete with the big boys any more, we can no longer compete with Nottingham Forest, Brentford, Brighton, Wolves, Bournemouth, Fulham etc. despite our wage bill being as high or in some cases even higher than theirs. Many of those clubs are historically smaller than us and typically sit in the championship or lower. The list of clubs that we are not going to be able to compete on the pitch with is growing every season, Ipswich, Burnley and Sheffield United are all run more competently than we are and are at a similar level, soon they will have outgrown us. I think if anyone needs to be realistic it's yourself, even the mention of top four and 15/16 reeks of delusion. That era is gone now, PL midtable mediocrity is now a dream that is unattainable for us for the foreseeable future. You might even go a step further and say that the club's position in the football pyramid is irrelevant as the club is going to be struggling to keep its head above water financially over the next few years and might go back into administration.
