Jamie Vardy: A Legend's Final Home Appearance
ian__marshall replied to davieG's topic in Leicester City Forum
I wished we could get this going on Sunday to the tune of Goodbye My Lover by James Blunt. Will never happen but if Carlsberg did leaving anthems... We are all dreamers and when we wake You built our spirits, it's dreams you make And as you move on, remember city Remember us and all we used to be We've seen you cry, we've seen you smile We've watched you run for many miles We've come so far it's f**king wild We'd spend a lifetime with you We know your fears and you know ours You had your doubts but now we're fine And we love you, we swear that's true We cannot live without you Goodbye our Jamie Goodbye our friend You have been the one You have brought us all much glee Goodbye our Jamie Goodbye our friend You have been the one You have brought us all much glee -

Championship 2024/2025 Season Thread
ian__marshall replied to Happy Fox's topic in General Football and Sport
Can't believe some of the comments on their forum. People genuinely suggesting they'll achieve automatic promotion next season 😂. They're OK, but they are miles off Southampton let alone us and Ipswich. -
Just seen this. Wow! That's either written by an LLM, someone who's been threatened, or someone that is high. There's no way anyone on this planet could write that load of crap and genuinely have belief in what they were writing. On second thoughts, it is Forest related so I suppose given their delusional tendencies you can't rule it out. That is straight out of the Donald Trump playbook though. Complete and utter lies, whilst spinning the narrative that others are spreading misinformation. Unbelievable it's been released as a an official club statement 😂

Agree 100% with everything you say but as you well know there's underlying issues which go far beyond the manager. My concern is that until these are addressed we simply need to keep our head above water for the good of the club. As much I hate the PL, sadly for the club to be stable we need to return to the top league and that has to be our number one priority above all else. Like yourself I'd much prefer a manager who could perform a systematic review and instill a mid to long term plan, but let's be very honest that can't/won't happen whilst we have this current SLT in place. Therefore even if we went down the young, forward thinking, dynamic manager approach, just like Enzo they'd be here for one season then chase the bright lights of stardom elsewhere. We'd then be back to square one having this conversation again in a years time as the board have zero idea when it comes to succession planning. As you know this all went wrong under Rodgers. The like of Tavares, Braybrooke, Alves, and Nyoni should have all been given a pathway to the 1st team. Instead we've set the precedent that progression is difficult to achieve with the club, and consequently this group of exceptional youngsters coming through are unsure whether their futures are best served by staying here.

This a good point @Ric Flair and something some of the most successful club's have been great at over the years, i.e. developing a generation of players through the academy system playing a specific way then having the faith to transition them to the first team. Speaking from personal experience, playing with the same group of players from a very young age right through is massively advantageous. It gives you an understanding that you simply can't buy. Every touch, pass, or play is a fraction ahead of playing with equally talented players who have been thrown together. You become almost telepathic, and I'm convinced it played a huge role in why Barca and Spain dominated football for so long. You have made a very valid point that I had probably overlooked regarding Dyche although I'll caveat that with he is a bit of an unknown entity in this regard as I agree with others that he hasn't ever had such talent at his disposal. Re: Dyche - I suppose it very much depends on the lens through which you view him. I personally see many traits I think would work here and believe he'd slot in well from a cultural perspective, I.e. no nonsense, decent, hardworking, bloke. Characteristics that I think resonate with most people from the city and county. I'll add that the remit is 100% promotion next season. Do I think he'd achieve that even with a points deduction? Absolutely. Had you offered me Scott Parker the year we appointed Enzo, I'd have been violently sick, and probably done the digital equivalent to burning my season ticket, but the standard is so low and the gulf so wide that he has comfortably navigated a poor Burnley side to promotion. Again, to play devil's advocate, let's not forget that Dyche was the man to keep Everton up at our expense the season we were originally relegated. I imagine a lot on here would say BR is light years ahead of Dyche, yet had we appointed Dyche at the time, most likely it would have been Everton that dropped and not us and whilst they will now go on to reap the benefits of their new stadium we remain in ours with expansion plans unlikely, a significantly weaker squad, and yo-yoing between divisions. I'm not saying Dyche is the answer, but he is in my view a proven entity regardless of whether he's your cup of tea or not.

Would be very career limiting if I tried 😂

Don't know what to do about this game. Work for a multinational company and I'm hosting an event next week which is the first of it's type globally. Got two of our most senior global directors coming over at the weekend and in an attempt to schmooze them I promised I'd spend Sunday with them exploring the E Mids. I hadn't realised the game had moved to Sunday as I'd planned everything initially when it was Saturday, then the penny dropped on Friday. Ordinarily I'd have taken them with me (praying they like football and hoping they'd buy into the 5000-1 narrative), but obviously can't get tickets. Desperately want to see off Vards though, so not sure what to do! 😕

Like the Red Scum down the road, they're a deluded bunch. Happy to enjoy their place in the football food chain when it benefits them, but when the tables are turned it's suddenly an issue. Trent's a local lad who's not only dedicated his whole career to the club, but also contributed massively to their success in recent times. It's understandable having won everything he can with them that he may want a) a new challenge, and b) experience a different culture. Liverpool as a city is hardly paradise after all. Add in the fact he has caught the attention of the biggest club in world football, why would he not move?!? This is Madrid, we're talking about, literally the pinnacle of a professional footballers career. He'd be absolutely stupid to turn down the opportunity.
-
Yeah, Lilian Thuram will fit in nicely with the rest of Dad's Army.
-
Seems like a nice bloke but he's surely the long lost cousin of Ali Dia. His 1st involvement today was beyond a joke.
-
Should have saved that third. No pro keeper should be getting beat by a shot like that. Not particularly powerful, and had a clear view of the ball. Disappointing.
-
This is embarrassing. Completely outplayed today. Wow! RVN needs to go ASAP. Clearly has no intention of turning things around with the team selection today. Faes should never wear the shirt again, not fit to wear a Sunday League pub teams shirt let alone ours. Can't wait to see that back of the idiot. We genuinely look absolutely sh*te. No pride, no passion, no fight. Worst City side I've seen and I've seen some dross over the years.

Ric Flair Live & Direct on BSLB Podcast
ian__marshall replied to Ric Flair's topic in Leicester City Forum
@Ric Flair Great episode as always. Re: The Branston debate, I thought you guy's gave him a platform to speak openly and it was clear he had his own agenda whether that be personal or business. To be honest the responses he gave pretty much aligned with my preconceptions about him from his time as a player so didn't really surprise me. Appreciate it's pretty hard to get guests on the show for multiple reasons, but you've had quite a few on the show who speak positively about Rudkin but seem to have personal reasons for that viewpoint whether it be because he influenced their career and provided opportunities to them or has business connections which said guest doesn't want to jeopardise. In the interests of journalistic balance could you get someone on the show who has an axe to grind with Rudkin. Might be a stretch but someone like Adrien Silva's agent for instance, just to try and understand what their experiences/frustrations of dealing with him have been and how that has shaped their perspective. Appreciate the challenge as inevitably most won't want to rock the boat for personal reasons, but there must be people out there who have had negative experiences and have completely cut their ties from the club whilst he is in situ so are happy to share their side of the story. -
Should be Nick De Marco. Only person to represent the club this season who actually won something.

Anyone know whatever happened to that mystery Chinese investor who was supposedly involved early in KPs tenure?

Saw the news when it broke and it didn't effect me as much as I'd imagined as I suppose I'd already concluded that this would be his last season with us. Thinking about it tonight, my eyes started to well up a bit. Remember his debut well and never imagined in a million years he'd have the career he has had with us. Gutted it's gone this way. Completely mismanaged by that tw@t Ruud. Saw a stat on the BBC football site, apparently he's played in 31 of our 33 games this season, no wonder he's looked a shadow of his former self. I'm convinced he'd have scored a lot more this season had been used as an impact sub. Part of me hopes he gets another crack at the PL. Will be hard watching him play elsewhere but really want him to stick it to Michael Owen and beat his PL tally. Whatever he goes on to do I wish him well and I'm sure this isn't the last we see of him around the club.

The JAMIE VARDY STAND. Rename the Kop.

Would love a statue but you just know it'll be one of Top holding the FA Cup aloft and Vards behind him with a hand on his shoulder -
@Foxes_Trust Great to see the shift in approach this season versus last time, and sorry for the long post. I think you can try to communicate with the club until you're blue in the face (no pun intended) but it's inevitable it will fall on deaf ears as they've got their heads buried in the sand and aren't open to feedback so I feel any efforts to apply pressure directly are a waste of time as it's too easy for them to ignore. Having given this some thought, their weakness is actually what they perceive to be their strength. They think that by not engaging with the fans and then putting out the occasional tweet or Top's Programme Note, that they are in control of the communication channels. The Trust itself have stated on many occasions that the club have either dangled the carrot of dialogue then never followed up/ignored the request, or agreed to dialogue under the protection of an NDA knowing full well any incompetence will remain private. This has created a communication vacuum which the club no doubt are delighted with. What it does however mean is that there is a void there to be filled. I think the Trust need to seize upon this and take control in my view. If you bombard the communication channels you'll own them and then the club will be left with a choice, continue as is and let others control the messaging, or step in themselves and start communicating to control the narrative. We're very fortunate as a club/fan base that we have a lot of fans / invested stakeholders who are in positions of influence within the media/public domain. The Trust need to call upon these individuals to start talking openly about their concerns. Off the top of my head we have the likes of Gary Lineker, Manish Bhasin, and David Neilson who are high profile TV personalities, Nick Ferrari, Geoff Peters, and Jason Bourne who all have influence/contacts within the national Radio industry, the likes of Rob Tanner and John Percy who whilst not supporters are happy to openly discuss the club's shortcomings in international/national print media, and then we also have the more niche but growing podcast communities with BSLBs, LTID, LC Pubcast, and WYS. As long as the narrative is factual asking for answers and doesn't veer into conjecture the club wouldn't be able to do anything to silence the noise. Despite the perception that the vast majority of fans are happy clappers who have been brainwashed by the club, I think the issue is rather one of awareness/ignorance. Most will turn a blind eye because the only contact they have with the club is the clubs emails and attending games, so whilst the performances are abject, the issues aren't in their face, and then they'll either read a programme or the clubs emails and hear Susan or Top outlining their commitment, talking about the debt conversion, or how despite the disappointment they still aspire to be top 6 PL, all of which softens the reality. However, as we've seen over recent years in politics, whoever shouts the loudest regardless of the facts seems to win the day. I appreciate it is quite time intensive and will require commitment and dedication from the Trust to keep the issues in the spotlight, but in my opinion this is the best way you can influence the change that is needed.

Does Rudkin have Botox injections?!? Just noticed he always displays exactly the same facial expression regardless of circumstances. It's like he's a Top's Gen1 AI Humanoid Robot.

Ruud van Nistelrooy - New Manager - Official
ian__marshall replied to moore_94's topic in Leicester City Forum
That's a great point, hadn't given that any thought. As crap we've been it's crazy that we've still got 6 games to go and both West Ham and Wolves are already on 35pts. Most likely both will finish on 42+ points. Incredible really when over the past 3 seasons mid to low 30s would have kept you up. -
Just listened to this, thanks for sharing. Thought he came across really well overall. Haven't previously had a lot of time for him as from what I'd seen in previous interviews he always came across like Rodgers with sound bites. The only red flag for me was when he was asked would he change his approach and he said no, then seemed to go along with Gary's suggestion of tweaking, though it didn't seem like that was at the forefront of his mind. I think he'd do a decent job given the opportunity here. The squad for me is better than any he's had previously so I think some of the issues he experienced at both Swansea and Southampton wouldn't be so big an issue here. I wouldn't necessarily champion him for the role, but I think we could do a lot worse.

Surprised they haven't started playing Paul Johnson - Get Get Down. Would be more appropriate.

Agree with this 100%. I'm in a similar boat where I put a lot of pressure on myself as I'm one of the few people in my industry nationally let alone my company who has the knowledge and expertise that I have. In my mind I'm petrified at the thought of how the business would cope if I wasn't around. The reality however is that they'd find some other mug to fill my boots if ever a time came when I wasn't. Someone else may not be as good but so long as the wheels keep turning no one really cares. As the old saying goes 'The show must go on'. I find in most instances others take your willingness to support for granted, and whilst you may be an expert in a particular area, they often develop an over reliance on you. Not sure if it's cultural, laziness, or simply human nature, but people seem to lack personal accountability in the UK and if they have the option to palm off responsibility under the guise of not having the capability they take it. When that comfort blanket no longer exists, it's amazing how suddenly those same people immediately develop said skills/discover what they can do. My advice @Fosse93, is if you need to take time out, you have to take it. If the boot was in the other foot the business would prioritise it's own interests ahead of its employees so don't worry about the impact.
