It does matter if we sack him today, agree to sack him but make the payment on the 1st of July, put him on gardening leave, appoint someone else and then let him go after July, or pay him his usual salary monthly until the end of his contract. All of these result in an immediate provision for the full cost of his contract in the current financial year. All the clever ways have been tried before and the accounting rules are specifically designed to overcome them. ANY action which results in him leaving - even if only obvious after the fact, would result in the cost being in this year's books.

Finally went into a brewery / bar in South Fremantle called Running with Thieves which we keep driving past. Nice burger and pint of their session pale ale.
