  1. would personally love to see a boycott by as many nations as possible but I think it is extremely unlikley to happen.
  2. I did hear a rumour that the pub in Ab Kettleby is going to close - or at least the present tenants are leaving - so that might not be around for a while (but I suppose the same applies to most any pub these days) Melton Town is decent for a non league football option. They have recently opened a new pitchside lounge with a bar etc where you can watch the match in comfort. Even the "bad" areas of Melton on not really that bad compared to bigger towns and cities. My favourite option for eating out is The Bell at Frisby-on-the-Wreake. Incredible food and very friendly vibe at this community run pub There's a decent mix of pubs in the town - The Anne of Cleves and The Boat are decent old fashioned pubs.
  3. horrific. And kind of a bit of a suprise to see such an incident in somewhere like Switzerland. You'd assume fire codes and regulations would be very strict there yet we seem to have acoustic foam on the ceiling which has been ignited and only one escape route up some stairs to get out. The report I saw was that a waitress had put fireworks in a champagne bottle and was being carried on someone's shoulders, so the firework ignited the ceiling causing a rapid flashover Absolutely horrific scenes
  4. embarassing for all concerned from what I saw. Pathetic It's been a good many years since I've been to an away - and I realise the bar is pretty low at the moment - but have we really resorted to calling everyone and everything a cvnt?
  5. I did look at trams but it being NYD I think the service is limited (particularly for the return jourmey)
  6. Taking my lads to their first proper away match for this one. Been many years since I went to an away so I have a possible stupid question - the tickets obviously have an allocated "seat" but does this mean anything in practice? Should I try to stand in my allocated spot or is it more of a everyone just finds their own place? Also anyone got tips on parking nearby (or even a bit further out if it facilities a smoother getaway)
  7. nope. eating cheese and drinking wine at home instead
  8. Enjoying it so far. The new UI is frustrating at times but I will get used to it Feels like there are a lot of things missing (Best XI, club records etc) and I can't find a way to add other competitions to my flow (like the World Cup for example) My first save is Leicester women and we had a great first season, top half finish in the WSL and won the FA Cup.
  9. Tebay and Gloucester are good, but a bit pricey. Pretty much every motorway services in the UK in inferior to offerings in Germany, France, Norway (and probably elsewhere)
  10. Well I guess that's a bit of good news at least. I'm not one to condone violence but I think I could look past it this time
  11. This is bizarre and a bit sick, no? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gjr0ylenzo A funeral director has been banned from NHS maternity wards and mortuaries in Leeds after keeping babies' bodies at her home, a BBC investigation has revealed. Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust said it had barred 38-year-old Amie Upton from its mortuaries and maternity wards in spring this year. One mother said she had been left "screaming" after discovering her dead son had been put in a baby bouncer "watching cartoons" in Ms Upton's living room. Ms Upton said she had only ever had two complaints in her eight years of running her baby loss support and funeral service, Florrie's Army. Zoe Ward's baby, Bleu, was three weeks old when he died of brain damage at Leeds General Infirmary in 2021. Ms Ward, 32, asked Florrie's Army to arrange his funeral, after a recommendation from a family friend. She said she had spoken to Ms Upton and thought the service sounded "brilliant". Florrie's Army said it supports bereaved parents, offering free handprints, photographs, baby clothing and a dedicated funeral service. According to her posts on Facebook, Ms Upton set up the group after her own daughter was stillborn in 2017. Ms Ward said Bleu's body had been picked up from the hospital by someone on behalf of Florrie's Army. She said she had thought he would be in a "professional setting". But when she went round to visit the next day, Ms Ward was "terrified" to see Ms Upton "watching" cartoons with her son's body next to her in a baby bouncer in the living room. "I realised it were Bleu and she [Ms Upton] says: 'Come in, we're watching PJ Masks.' "There's a cat scratcher in the corner and I can hear a dog barking and there was another [dead] baby on the sofa. It wasn't a nice sight. "I rang my mum and I'm saying, 'This ain't right'… I was screaming down the phone [saying]: 'It's mucky, it's dirty, he can't stay here.'"
  12. Ginetta was out of touch 30 years ago when Midlands Today used to trot him out for some soundbite about us being the Coca Cola Cup FInal like he was some kind of official spokesman for fans Guy is a massive bell end - as I think I have informed him directly a few times over the years Totally irrelevant old boys club
  13. I did call the club and they were predictably unhelpful (though I accept the situation is entrely of his own making). She basically could not understand what i was actually asking her and became fixated on informing me that i could not get a refund on the ticket (which I neither wanted, nor expected) Anyway, lesson learned for him - needs to book his travel earlier next time!
  14. Hi My son has got a ticket for Huddersfield (A) with his mates. However he does not have a coach ticket (although his mates do) I did badger him to get this sorted but of course he hasn't done so and I see now that Fox Travel has sold out. So does he have any options. He seems to be of the view that he can just rock up at the KP on Wednesday afternoon and hop on a coach - though not sure if that is realistic? Or is there anyone who has a spare coach ticket to sell/transfer? It's not the end of the world if he can't go - but wondered if anyone can help him here?
  15. she played really well, especially knowing that any mistake would see her torn to shreds on social media
  16. it's tragic. So fragile is life. My mind was immediatley drawn to the death of the late, great Laurie Cunningham in similar circumstances back in 1989
  17. his brother also killed in the accident. Tyre blow out, crashed car, burst into flames. Both killed (according to the Marca link above)
  18. looking forward to this. Think England have a tough group - and there's no room for slip ups in this format.
  19. have they really listened to fan feedback or the Foxes Trust? Or are they just charging as much as they can get away with (eg 2023/24 prices) and that happens to align with the Trust's very low expectations? Already expensive ticket prices not increasing is a strange thing to claim a victory on. as @ealingfox says it's not really a step in the "right" direction
  20. Just watched the Grenfell documentary. Wow, that was a really tough watch. Very emotional
  21. i'll see you there pal, because it made me laugh!
  22. Nothing is impossible, but it seems highly unlikley a pilot would confuse the flaps and gear controls. The flaps controls are next to the main throttle controls and have multiple settings. The gear controls are on the main panel and have a simple "up / down" spring loaded button not raising the gear in itself is unlikley to lead to disaster in any case. But the fact the gear did not retract and they seem to have flap problems does indicate a possible hydraulic problem (since hydraulics would be needed to operate gear and flaps) as @st albans fox suggested Will be interesting to see what actually happened
  23. From BBC https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cd901xn4001o The British man who was the sole survivor of Thursday's Air India plane crash said he managed to escape the wreckage through an opening in the fuselage. "I managed to unbuckle myself, used my leg to push through that opening, and crawled out," Vishwashkumar Ramesh told Indian state media DD News. Mr Ramesh, 40, was in seat 11A on the London-bound Boeing 787 flight when it went down shortly after take off in Ahmedabad, western India on Thursday. Air India said all other passengers and crew were killed - including 169 Indian nationals and 52 British nationals. More than 200 bodies have been recovered so far, though it is unclear how many were passengers and how many were from the ground. Speaking from his hospital bed, Mr Ramesh said the lights inside the aircraft "started flickering" moments after take off. Within five to 10 seconds, it felt like the plane was "stuck in the air", he said. "The lights started flickering green and white...suddenly slammed into a building and exploded." The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a building used as accommodation for doctors at the Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College and Civil Hospital. Mr Ramesh told the Indian broadcaster he could not believe that he came out alive. "I saw people dying in front of my eyes - the air hostesses, and two people I saw near me," he said. "For a moment, I felt like I was going to die too, but when I opened my eyes and looked around, I realised I was alive. "I still can't believe how I survived. I walked out of the rubble."

  25. considering the aircraft was in "flight" for just 30 seconds, and for at least the first part of that, everything would have appeared relatively normal it doesn't give much time for anyone to think "we're about to crash, I;m going to unbuckle my seatbelt, open that door and jump out" - so seems more likely perhaps he was "ejected" from the wreck on impact - but we shall see When I saw the video my mind was drawn to this incident - Emirates 407 which took off from Melbourne after exhausing the entire runway and struggled to gain height, and was only a few metres above the ground after 500m beyond the runway threshold. It eventually climbed and returned to Melbourne, with tailstrike damage. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emirates_Flight_407#Investigation The investigation concluded that the first officer has understated the aircraft weight in the flight computer resuliting in a lower the necessary engine thrust and consuquently insufficient accelaration and airspeed.
