We didn't really reach for the stars though. We grabbed a couple but I really don't think it was reaching for the stars - big outcome bias there, we didn't really spend a load compared to Brighton and Bournemouth. We've just massively mismanaged it unlike those two.

Things will get better one day. But it's just when that begins and how far down things sink before it happens. My fear is the likes of Bolton Wanderers and Portsmouth. Bolton have been outside of the top two tiers since 2019 and Portsmouth spent over a decade outside of them up until 2024 - and even now they're under threat of just going back down into it, though ironically it's probably our plight that saves them. They're two clubs I consider us to be bigger than, but I'd also consider those two clubs 'better' than spending prolonged periods outside of the top two tiers. I don't see either of those clubs reaching even the Premier League any time soon. Our crash could be as severe as either of those two. In-fact if we do drop this season (we will), it could arguably end up even worse. Never has a club fallen to the third tier with that level of financial noose around their neck. Not even Portsmouth themselves IMO.

Anybody with any aspiration should keep well away from it. I think you're looking at the type where Allardyce went to Leeds - he knew the game was up and just fancied a few more games. Anybody who has any real ambition or intention of making it in the game should avoid this like the plague. It will chew you up and spit you out. I think to somebody like Skubala - he'd earn life changing money, but it would probably only be for six months. It depends how willing you are to cash in your career.

I just don't see any way back from that. Even for this team that was extraordinary. I'd be surprised if we won another game this season. Forget survival. How could you possibly trust them to get a result after a game like that? Nobody else in the league is capable of that. Oxford, Blackburn, West Brom, Portsmouth. They're piss poor teams. But they're not as bad as we are. Chansiri is the only reason we won't finish 24th.

Our only meaningful fixture for the rest of this season. The only thing left to play for. What sums up the total weakness of the players we recruit is they will just go down with a whimper and lose. I think virtually any other club would bounce back and win this game. Remember Southampton winning away here after the 0-9? We are completely incapable of that sort of response. They will roll over and lose.
