The only justification for appointing Martin is in the highly unlikely scenario that all other targets are either not available, require compensation or simply don't want the job. It's possible the list has been exhausted so the only choice left is Martin or stick with RvN.

Why can't the club come out with a statement that apologises and gives us some hope for the future at least. If there is a time to rally the troops, then this is it. Chris Sutton quoted his 'sources' as confirming that Martin was being appointed. Probably the same sources that are all over socials that we all have access to. You're right, it couldn't happen today as the European Cup competition died in 1992. It's virtually impossible for that to happen in the Champions League. Not sure what was purer in the 80's. I just remember it being grim.

'Whoever comes in' !? Really, this goes without saying is an incredibly important decision. It must be better than recent appointments and I'm of the opinion the employers should listen to fans and give weight to their opinions. There are several others that should be given that chance in front of Russell F Martin.
