MrSpaM Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 Has anyone on here had their kid's be mascots recently.Used to be free a few seasons ago(when my lad was). Now £300......all that's wrong with modern football! Never realised it actually cost money to do that nowadays, I know a few people who were mascots when I was younger and it didnt cost them a penny, infact they got a free kit out of it!
yorkie1999 Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 but who will wipe your arse when youre 85? The Swedish au pair girl that you can afford because you've not spent a fortune on kids.
Mike Oxlong Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 It'd be worth a fiver to get them to wish Happy Birthday to Mike Hunt.
Guest MarshallForEngland Posted 9 April 2015 Posted 9 April 2015 Using the PA for birthday announcements is well on the periphery of things a football club is concerned about and, given the cost of installation, maintenance, and operator training involved in having one, I think it's only fair that people should pay for it if they want to use it. The sense of entitlement in the OP baffles me tbh. No offence mate but literally nobody cares about your kid's birthday except you, so what makes you want to monopolise the stadium PA to let 30000 people know about it? Be grateful you're allowed to use someone else's vast amounts of equipment and resources for your own interests in the first place.

I don't think anyone is saying it's the most important issue for the club. The PA system already exists though and it hasn't been installed and paid for just to do birthday announcements so I think that's a moot point. Of course no one cares about some kids birthday - apart from the kid himself, but that's what is important. Making the child (and future "customer"), feel special. The example of Frankie and Benny's that someone quoted is a good one. It's probably not top of their priorities either, but they go out of their way to make a fuss of the kids on their birthday. They could charge for it, but they don't.
promised land Posted 10 April 2015 Posted 10 April 2015 It'd be worth a fiver to get them to wish Happy Birthday to Mike Hunt. Isn't that why you have to pay for it? A load of lads on the beer, then one texting or phoning to have some silly name or a mate read out.
Rob1742 Posted 10 April 2015 Posted 10 April 2015 The difference is this is a gesture that football club should give. It's not like you're asking for free tickets or anything. I do agree that if you don't like it don't have it, but it's still criminal to charge that much for someone to say 4 words. There's ways any business should make money and where ethics come into it. I don't see how the extra money benefits the club too much anyway Why should the club give this gesture, but say your local Tescos girls where you spend your weekly shopping money come out in song with happy birthday when you go in there? Always someone wanting a go at the club ?

Always someone wanting a go at the club ? If Tesco did do that it would improve their customer relations. But on the same point, imagine if Tesco charged 20 quid to say happy birthday to customers. It would be absolutely deterimental to their image regardless if people use their services or not. The difference with football is that loyalty to clubs is not the same as loyalty to stores. No one will call me a plastic if I shop at Asda instead of Tesco. This is where the club takes advantages of such services. They know regardless of whether it is used up or not, people will still come. This is wrong and it's even worse when people who can barely afford to turn up week in weekout, are being slapped in the face for additional services. £20 is half the cost of a good match ticket. If this went on in any other country there would be riots, but football fans in this country are too loyal and spend because it's ingrained in their culture. Football clubs are exploiting this
Sir Fynwy Posted 10 April 2015 Posted 10 April 2015 If you want a free shout out for your kid let him get lost and they'll do a call out for him to contact the nearest steward for nothing
Mark_w Posted 10 April 2015 Posted 10 April 2015 If this went on in any other country there would be riots. I'm struggling to come up with one example of a country where that's true? Even if there is that doesn't mean they're right, it's a completely optional service, just don't give them your £20 and there's no issue.
Unabomber Posted 10 April 2015 Posted 10 April 2015 Little things like this is why I'll never have kids, it all adds up and I think a lot of people forget that nowadays when they think what a great idea it would be to blow their beans up some slapper's muff.

Definitely is an exaggeration on my part, but I'm more concerned about the cost of football in this country. In Germany, Dortmund charge 95 for a season ticket. Their chairman said that why charge an extra 2/3 mil to the fans when they can spend that much less on transfers. Fair enough our club doesn't work in the same way, but then to charge extra for services that doesn't incur the club any expense is ridiculous
