20 quid to have my sons name announce on his birthday

32,000 people at the game, 365 days a year = on average 87 people will have their birthday at a game. If it was free, everyone would want it to be done and the whole half time would be spent doing birthday announcements. Would be as boring as.

Like I said earlier, they could quite easily do it for free and cap it at 15-20 a match.

This should definitely be free to loyal fans for crying out loud.

If the thing that a young City fan wants more than anything is to have their name read out down the KP then the club should be nurturing these fans for the future rather than milking it in the short term.

If they are so desperate to make money then make it a call-only service to book and charge for the call but come on, give something back! Our club are awful for customer service.

Poor show.. Why should EVERYTHING be looked at as a money making exercise!?.. Greed in football has ruined the game!

Because its a private buisness and not a charity?

Which wouldn't exist without its loyal fan base. We aren't asking for a Ferrari, we're asking for a 5 second tannoy announcement. Do they charge the people they tell to go and move their vehicles £20 for the pleasure as well?

It's not much to ask them to read out "Happy birthday to Toby, lots of love from mum and dad" is it? Make the kids day. Any miniscule "costs" to the club should be more than covered by the gate receipts, along with all the other matchday "costs".

It's like paying £100 for a hotel room then them charging you a fiver for a mini shampoo!

It's not like they're going to get rich on it. If they read out five birthdays a game and got £20, that's still less than two grand in the bank over a season which is the square root of fcuk all in the overall scheme of things.

Naive to think that anything comes for free, or even cheap, in relation to top flight football in this day and age. Whilst I agree with the OP in principle, I wouldn't have called/emailed the club to arrangement a birthday tannoy announcement in the hope it would cost any less than £15-20. The modern day football clubs are mere businesses and we, as the fans, are bled dry for them.

Presumably most grown ups wouldn't want their birthday reading out at the match. If they do, they can pay for it, but kids under 10 should be free.

Has anyone on here had their kid's be mascots recently.Used to be free a few seasons ago(when my lad was). Now £300......all that's wrong with modern football!

It is my sons birthday on April 29th same day as Chelsea game we have been season ticket holders for years and spent a small fortune over the years on my beloved club never bothered before but with the Chelsea game falling on my sons birthday I rang up to have his name announce at halftime or before my game and I was told it would cost me 20 pounds to have this done I feel charging for this is disgusting. I even brought a brick when the club went in to administration this had left a sour taste in my mouth. Wondered what other people thought I understand football is a business but charging for this takes the piss.

I would have a DNA done before forking out 20 quid,or sneak in a megaphone and do it yourself

They could charge a fiver and make it just for kids that are members or season ticket holders as these are the ones who parent are putting there money in to the club not just the ones who pick the odd game or two just think 20 is a bit excessive.

If charging a fiver seems fair, they should do it for any kid who is willing to pay a fiver and is at the game, not just members or STH! What if the kids birthday present was to go to the game with his dad and a couple of mates, why shouldn't he be able to hear his name if theres a fee. Is it the kids fault that his parents aren't 'ploughing money into the club'?

I agree with you that £20 is excessive, but I think you're getting a bit ahead of yourself being a season ticket holder, and being quite dismissive of people who only 'pick the odd game or two.'

It's essentially an advertising board. So you're taking up advertising space and thus have to pay.

I don't see why this is an issue?

I havent been to a home game in forever, but do they really just read out adverts over the tannoy at half time?

Do they actually read them out then? I've only seen them scrolling on the big screens.

Don't really pay attention to whats being said on the tannoy though.

Pretty sure they read them out.

Despite being a season ticket holder I'm now questioning whether they actually do it or not lol

It's a mockery. How the club can charge that much is beyond me. I get that the club need to reduce the demand because if it was free, there would be 100+ names every week. Having said that, they could easily limit the number of names on a first come first serve basis.

I'm not being funny but the club know when your birthday is, usually you get an email with an offer of some discpription. It wouldn't be that hard for them to put 'happy birthday' on the screens at halftime for whichever young supporters have a birthday on that day, without request.

Don't bother having kids. It's cheaper, plus you don't have to wipe their arses.

What happens when you hit that limit of first come first served? There'll be somebody on here moaning why they can't extend it to X amount. I agree 20 quid seems steep but the problem is as always there's people willing to pay. If they didn't there'd soon be a reduction in price.

This is true. You can't have it both ways. I just think that some things are okay to charge for and some things are not. I can understand ticket prices increasing and even products like food and drink. But a service that takes a few seconds to conduct is not worth £20. Think the whole model of English football is wrong. Fans in this country are mad, to pay anything for football. English clubs have exploited this show of commitment

In other countries, clubs put the fans first, and charge them significantly less. Was it Dortmound where a season ticket is £95, and beers are ridiculously cheap. Football should be made for the fans. It really is becoming too corporate and business like.

That's the same with anything though. What happens when a train/bus is full? What happens when a match sells out? The answer is, its tough titties. Should have got up earlier.
