Russ112112 Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 It is my sons birthday on April 29th same day as Chelsea game we have been season ticket holders for years and spent a small fortune over the years on my beloved club never bothered before but with the Chelsea game falling on my sons birthday I rang up to have his name announce at halftime or before my game and I was told it would cost me 20 pounds to have this done I feel charging for this is disgusting. I even brought a brick when the club went in to administration this had left a sour taste in my mouth. Wondered what other people thought I understand football is a business but charging for this takes the piss.
davieG Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 I guess if there's a demand level they can't meet then charging adds an element of control. £20 seems a bit steep but I'm sure there's plenty of fans that will be happy to stump up that as they do for all the other over priced elements of supporting a team.
Raj Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 Imagine if every one wanted their names announced on their birthdays??? They gotta charge something ain't they?
kingcarr21 Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 The way i see it there giving you a service therefore you have to pay for it. I suppose people could get annoyed as its for a childs birthday and a possible future fan that would pay his money for season tickets etc but this day and age nothing is free unfortunately. Dont think £20 is to bad tbh. It wouldnt bother me as we all know that its a business first and foremost.
Larry_LCFC Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 It was the same when I tried doing it on a Tuesday night Championship Match in November a few seasons ago. I think its disgusting you have to pay, especially £20. Obviously there would need to be a limit of say 15 a match, but it should be free. We spend a fortune on attending the matches, the least they could do is wish their fans a happy birthday without finding the need to fleece them.
Captain... Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 I'm with the OP they shouldn't be charging £20 to season ticket holders and members it's such a small thing and costs the club nothing yet would make his day. I am assuming he isn't 23 years old, I would expect that to be a perk for any member/season ticket holder under 14. I would understand if it was on the big screen as that is lost advertising revenue. Maybe speak to the fans trust people get them to bring it up with the club, it is things like this that make fans feel like customers being exploited at every opportunity, if it was a £20 donation to the foxes charity instead you would feel less exploited.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 I even brought a brick when the club went in to administration this had left a sour taste in my mouth. Don't think they were edible mate.
MrSpaM Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 Throw your brick at the club shop, that'l show em On a serious note, it does seem a bit much to charge for this, i've just done a bit of research online and a lot of clubs in the premiership do it free of charge. However for example at Everton, if you want your name up on the big screen it costs £25, a tannoy annoucment costs nothing though.
peterthefox Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 Paid the £20 said be there 30 mins before kick off, as I was, but only saw adverts no announcement rang in to say why they did not run the birthday greeting, which they replied saying they did, they did not show it at half time either. PISS poor we are season ticket holders and travel up from the south coast.
weller54 Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 Poor show.. Why should EVERYTHING be looked at as a money making exercise!?.. Greed in football has ruined the game!
fleckneymike Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 Why not pay he money but make them announce his birthday for 30 years hence, what with inflation you'll have got yourself a right bargain
lee7 Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 It should be for free like others have said! As fans we spend a fortune on tickets, merchandise and match day traveling expenses! Charging for something which effectively costs nothing to do is scandalous. I bet all clubs are the same, anything to make some money.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 I agree with he OP, ridiculous amount to charge for stating a name, especially for s STH. Surely it ought to be a perk for STH, especially thise with long history of following and committing to the club.
AyewJoking Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 £20 is alright. as long as your son hears it I understand you feel something so simple should be free but £20 would be well worth it if it makes your child's day.
AyewJoking Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 Think your in the minority mate personally i wouldnt bother unless it was free but if you want it then £20 is hardly the end of the world.
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 £20 seems excessive and you'd be gutted if you paid it only for the person to not hear it!
City Fan Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 32,000 people at the game, 365 days a year = on average 87 people will have their birthday at a game. If it was free, everyone would want it to be done and the whole half time would be spent doing birthday announcements. Would be as boring as.
Smudge Posted 7 April 2015 Posted 7 April 2015 If it included a birthday card signed by a player of choice that would be worth £20.
Russ112112 Posted 7 April 2015 Author Posted 7 April 2015 That a good idea mate would've a keepsake aswell

Russ112112 Posted 7 April 2015 Author Posted 7 April 2015 Most adults wouldn't be bothered but for the kids it would be good say under 15s perhaps.probably for members and season ticket holders who plough more money in rather the ones who only go s few times a season also wouldn't mind paying a fiver or something just think 20 is excessive.
Russ112112 Posted 7 April 2015 Author Posted 7 April 2015 They could charge a fiver and make it just for kids that are members or season ticket holders as these are the ones who parent are putting there money in to the club not just the ones who pick the odd game or two just think 20 is a bit excessive.
