LanguedocFox Posted 4 May 2015 Posted 4 May 2015 For those of us of a certain age, this is very sad: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/may/04/jimmy-greaves-severe-stroke-intensive-care-england?CMP=share_btn_tw. One of the real greats of my football-following youth. Here's hoping he recovers and enjoys a few more years.
davieG Posted 4 May 2015 Posted 4 May 2015 Saw him play for Chelsea and Spurs, was at White Hart Lane when he scored direct from a corner against us.
Fox92 Posted 4 May 2015 Posted 4 May 2015 Regardless of age, you only have to be a football fan to understand how much of a legend he is. Hope he pulls through. Another great player I'd have loved to seen play.
Bryn Posted 4 May 2015 Posted 4 May 2015 Prognosis likely to be pretty dreadful I'd imagine. Sad news.
The Blur Posted 4 May 2015 Posted 4 May 2015 Read his autobiography- it was a brilliant read and he seem to be a very talented footballer and a likeable bloke who made great strides to turn his alcoholism around. Contrary to popular belief, he does not turn to alcohol due missing out in World Cup final in 1966, it was for other reasons. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
Blanesta Posted 4 May 2015 Posted 4 May 2015 His stats are insane, A true legend of the game, I really hope he pulls through.

Contrary to popular belief, he does not turn to alcohol after missing out in World Cup final in 1966. Wishing him a speedy recovery. Mixed surgical spirit with cider, apparently. A true legend. I only want him to pull through if he's going to have some sort of quality of life after....
purpleronnie Posted 4 May 2015 Posted 4 May 2015 Amazing player and who could forget Saint and Greavsie.
BoyJones Posted 4 May 2015 Posted 4 May 2015 My first footballing hero. My first ever match was City v Spurs in March 1963. A 2-2 draw, Jimmy scored one and had one disallowed because it went into the net at the Kop end one second after the referee blew up for half time. In those days games were strict 45 minutes. Greaves shot a second before the ref blew. To Jimmys credit he just walked off, no moaning. I also remember him scoring a hat trick down at WHL in 1968. We lost 3-2. One of the goals Jimmy beat seven city players, dummied the keeper and walked the ball into the net. A truly great player, good luck for a speedy and full recovery.
Crinklyfox Posted 4 May 2015 Posted 4 May 2015 He's had a severe stroke which is very bad news. He's most likely paralysed down one side with limited communication ability. At any age that will take some recovering from and he isn't young. I feel for him not only because he was a great player but because the same thing happen to my father who was then hospitalised for a week before his death. A terrible time for him and his family, I hope he beats the odds and pulls through.
