Rincewind Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 A cafe owner's kindness was repaid by a former homeless man who gave her £20 to say thank you for feeding him for free when he was down on his luck. Shabana Rasool, owner of London Bites coffee shop, in London Road, Leicester, was astonished when the young man walked into her premises, laid a £20 note on the counter and said: "You gave me food when I was homeless last year. I'm fine now. This is for you." Ms Rasool tried to give the man the money back, "but he was adamant", she said. The man - whose identity is not known by Ms Rasool - told the cafe boss that he remembered her feeding homeless people, including him. Guest MattP Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Don't blame her, if someone walked into my shop covered from head to toe in urine I'd give them something to go away as well.
MooseBreath Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 It's an incredible story. Someone actually paid for something with their own money? Does he not know benefits are available?
Guest MattP Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Also good to see we are living in a time where homeless people are getting off the streets and into work.
Finnegan Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Wow. Ken posts an actually quite nice story that makes me feel fairly uplifted about the human spirit and you two are on him in seconds quicker than anyone else can even read it to take the piss. Oh Foxestalk.
Rincewind Posted 23 October 2015 Author Posted 23 October 2015 Has anyone got a valid point to make who has actually read my post? Thanks Finners.
Guest MattP Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Can you really not see this is tongue in cheek? The urine joke has been a regular quote all week.
Parafox Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Can you really not see this is tongue in cheek? The urine joke has been a regular quote all week. To be honest Matt, both yours and Moosebreath's posts came across as spiteful and sarcastic.
leicsmac Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 To be honest Matt, both yours and Moosebreath's posts came across as spiteful and sarcastic. This. There's a fine line between satire and meanspiritedness, and this time it was crossed.
MPH Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 I don't think their comments were aimed at rinceys quoting of the story, but more at his snide little dig in his comment underneath it

Oh Foxestalk. what do you expect, they're gutted he wasn't guillotined
Guest MattP Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Let's be honest, it's probably bullshit anyway.
MooseBreath Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 You know society is in trouble when people are defending a story where the act of paying for something with your own money is held up as an example of outstanding conduct.
Wymsey Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Let's be honest, it's probably bullshit anyway. This. I couldn't even find the business on Streetview.
MooseBreath Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 Just brought lunch (southern friend chicken wrap from asda, with a millionaire shortcake and a coke). Any mercury journalists reading this who want to get in touch send me a pm.
sphericalfox Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 MattyP and moosey acting like a pair of unamusing cnuts shocker! Wymsey not knowing his arse from his elbow revealed again. Headlines for this week's FT newsletter.

Parafox Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 You know society is in trouble when people are defending a story where the act of paying for something with your own money is held up as an example of outstanding conduct. He was repaying an act of kindness you dick. Still, what would you know.
MooseBreath Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 I don't think their comments were aimed at rinceys quoting of the story, but more at his snide little dig in his comment underneath it Pretty much this. There's a couple of nice-ish elements to the story. Firstly that the cafe were giving out food to the homeless, that's nice. Lastly that this homeless chap has got himself together. That's also nice. Trying to claim that because he eventually paid for what he was given proves all homeless people have achieved a level of empathy that people who do have homes could never reach is ridiculous.
MooseBreath Posted 23 October 2015 Posted 23 October 2015 He was repaying an act of kindness you dick. Still, what would you know. Which is exactly what any decent person does all the time isn't it? Nice to see the personal abuse coming out again. Now you've done that I can't post anymore in here because I'll get banned See y'all
