Does it matter?

The issue of 'plastic fans' keeps cropping up in other topics, so I'll give it its own thread.

Assuming our fine run of success continues, how would you feel about new fans joining the ranks? Especially non-leicester based fans?

How do you currently view the big clubs with their 'glory hunters', and would your view of them change if we gained the same reputation?

How would you feel if the club started to market itself in a similar way as Utd, City, Chelsea etc?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all

Hey bruv, I aint taking sides or complaining. just putting it out there as a topic of conversation  :)

I think it would be a bit annoying if people suspect you might be a glory grabber when they find out you support Leicester, but it would be nice for the club to be a bit more high profile, I suppose.

And I bruv was just wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, that seemed apt to the topic bruv!

Is the idea of being a football fan to support someone shit, so you can go to a game to spit venom at them and then expect everyone to take pity on you because you support THAT team and you must be a heck of a fan to support THAT team?

I couldnt care less if people join us, it raises the clubs stature. So what

Does it? Coz I'm missing the connection  :dunno:

Watching the Chelsea game abroad and one city fan, after telling him I supported us, demanded to know why I supported city. He seemed placated when I told him where I grew up, but it seemed a bit backwards to me - him caring where I grew up rather than who I supported.

Just because I was born in Leicester and lived here all my life and supported the City since I was 6,over 45 years ,am a season ticket holder etc etc. This does not make me a better fan or give me any more right to support Leicester City than someone from St Albans or San Diego. I was making a point that ALL are welcome. IMHO the true fans are here through thick and thin and I've witnessed a lot of bloody thin :) Merry Christmas.

Nothing makes me cringe more than the topic of plastic fans, mainly because I'm not really sure what it means.

At Swansea I was at the front next to a guy that was calling all our fans boring and plastic (we'd just driven 150 miles) as we basically weren't being as loud as he wanted.

FFS stop moaning. I've been a season ticket holder since 2003 -  Just because they weren't there when we were in league 1 doesn't mean they can't support our team. Would you rather a ground full or one which only had real hardcore nutty fans in there.... who were then complaining because the ground wasn't full. Just be happy that we're top have a great atmosphere and have a growing fan base :)

I should clarify that i'm not casting judgement on anyone.

But personally i've always liked the fact that previously no one would question my allegiance to leicester, and if I ever met another fan it was something a bit special.

Currently it feels like we've got the best of both worlds, relative success without sacrificing our character. We haven't splashed the cash, and everyone at the club is really likeable. I hope it carries on this way, but if I had to choose between financial success and trophies, or authenticity and club character, I'd take the latter.

I do get a tiny bit annoyed by Leicester-born Man U and Liverpool fans jumping on the bandwagon and asking me for tickets, referring to Leicester as, 'we' or 'us' after years of not giving us a second thought but I forget that when I think about all the local kids who would otherwise have grown up as glory hunters actually wanting to support their local team and starting a lifelong passion. Those are the new fans that matter.

Wait a minute!!! I hope you meant Leicestershire and not just Leicester. lol There has always been just as many or more Leicester fans in Leicestershire as there is in Leicester city it's self.

Since we have been doing well, the biggest difference I've noticed is when I am boring people telling them how good Leicester are playing, now people have some sort of idea who I am talking about! They still just dismiss our chances of winning the league, but to be honest there are just as many doubters posting on here!

As far as plastic fans are concerned, we need more demand to expand the stadium, but once the stadium can hold enough genuine fans the rest of the stadium can be filled up with plastics, that's fine, I can't see a problem really. I don't like the thought of life long fans not being able to watch Leicester play because ex Man U or Chelsea fans have tickets and lifelong fans miss out, but we can't do much about it.
