Genuinely one of the flattest ends I've been in despite it on paper being potentially excellent. I can't get my head around our away support. Our home fans have become amongst the noisiest in the league but our away ends are some of the worst.

Maybe its because at home most of the vocal fans are grouped together whereas away they're spread out through people who aren't as vocal.

Aren't most of the Union Fs lads friends? Surely they all stand together.

Although they can't create an atmosphere on their own. Our away ends should be brilliant considering how we are doing on the pitch.

don't think they go to away games together. I keep saying that if Union FS could get tickets together somehow it'd start improving the away ends massively

First half noise sounded good on Sky, except seemed to go quiet after penalty miss. Really poor second half. For those who went, do you think the miss made the difference to fans, added to still thinking we'd win comfortably anyway as Villa so poor first half?

I have written to the club and asked for their views and if they are considering safe standing

Great news. End of the day, safe standing doesn't just help people (like myself and literally hundreds of other posters on FT) who want to stand home and away to support the team, it helps prevent incidents like this which can legitimately lead to people getting hurt. It's called "safe" standing for a reason  :).

Pre game and up to the penalty the away end was pretty good then after that it went down hill and for most of the second half it was silent with chants dying out before they'd really started.

If it did then that just smacks of a poor set of fans.

To be honest the whole mentality was wrong yesterday. I was very confident pre-match and I don't regret that in the slightest. I thought we'd win it comfortably because we'd not get complacent, but we did.

Don't think it changed too much. Was flat from minute 1, at least where I was.

Dont worry if i dont get a response i shall be paying Susan a visit!

She's already stated before that the club will not lead the way in pushing for Rail Seating. Her view on it is very much, if it happens we will consider it. Nothing more.

The gentrification of football is making it a middle class sport. The demographics of the population has changed.

Late 70's/early 80's a huge % of the home and away support would be male, 14-40 year old and working class. Also in the old grounds you would get a standing and a seated section for the away fans. The minority less vocal, older and more middle class supporter would be in the seats, while the more vocal support would be standing.

Also very often it would be just pay on the gate, not like today, no pre planning with those only with enough points (many of those are the middle classes with more disposable income) getting tickets.

I just managed to get Arsenal tickets, but they had near enough sold out on the 2nd priority group!!

Most of my group that go down City are 3rd or 4th priority. I'm predicting a large % of the City fans at Arsenal will be of the older middle class group or family groupings.

PLEASE DONT GET ME WRONG, they have as much right to go to away games as anyone else, I'm just trying to explain why the 'away' atmosphere has gradually been changing over the years. I've noticed the same with teams like Chelsea who in the past would've had loud and vociferous support.

By the way, I'm a 55 year old retired Deputy Head. (But I've been a loud mouth supporter down City since I was 8).

Well i might just suggest Susan comes to a game and stands next to me, her opinion would then be very interesting. We are foxes not sheep!

Her opinion, like anyone else in an official position will be 'you shouldn't be stood up then' Sorry to be negative and I wish you luck but you'll be banging your head on a brick wall I feel.

The incident in question happened after we scored when everyone is standing so i dont think an acceptable reply would be that i should have been sitting. Anyone official is going to have to come up with something better than that. I am a loud passionate supporter usually and will be the same over the subject of safe standing

I'm not even sure I can get on board with the demographic shout anymore. Our end was largely made up of the type that Weller In Tights alluded to, at the ideal kick off time for atmosphere, and it was still flat as ****. I couldn't believe how bad it was.

I think the lack of songs that the masses know kills off the atmosphere a bit. People get bored of singing the same songs again and again and not many join in with some more adventurous chants.

Whilst I agree, it would be nice to see her consider the position from attending games in the stand.

I'm of the opinion it enhances the enjoyment, and it'd be nice to know a board member at least understands in some way.

As much as I love getting behind the boys, I don't necessarily agree that it's our voice that gets us over the line.

Stick me on 30k a week to sing for a full 90 minutes if we're that vital to the teams results..

Why does CR gee up the crowd at times then? I'd say it has an impact on the team, and helps the lads.

No not having that. Our away ends over the last two years have more and more folks just going to be 'seen'. Going without the attitude of 90 minutes belting our songs out. They either can't be bothered to sing or just pipe on on a new youtube fad rip off from many a football league team.

I heard "Staying Up, Going Down" which was a nice return to the Championship winning season, just altered slightly. Hope we keep that going against relegation-threatened teams for the rest of the season.

Thats what i was trying to say not many people who go contribute to the atmosphere.

Going to be 'seen'?

Not like, to watch a football game?
