Yes lads passed the theory first time - thanks for the advice! :)

Gonna book in for my practical test now and do that ASAP, literally just the reversing round a corner that I'm not confident on.

Congratulations! Yeah I wasn't that keen on that, having hardly covered it on my lessons but you'll wing it. Providing you check your mirrors properly and don't hit the kerb (or another car) I don't think they'll give you a major

Do they have any cars you can drive without a licence in England? I think for the old 3 wheeler reliant robins you didn't need a full driving licence back in the day but I haven't seen anything like that on my recent visits thankfully.

Over here there is a (4 wheeled) car that you can go on the roads with even if you have never had a driving licence (or lesson). It's seen a lot in rural communities especially and is used by people when there licences are taken off them until they are allowed to drive again. Top speed is 45-50km/h. In fact alcoholics use them because they can drink as much as they want and then drive home in them. Crazy.

Well there is only a 1 in 4 chance I'll get that on my test so I could just go for it and hope for the best haha, there isn't even many real life situations where you would have reverse around a corner ...

The tip I always stuck by is when going round the bend proper three quaters of a full turn of the wheel is enough.

Just opened that at work!

you shouldn't be on this forum at work!

It is a news report shown on the tv (well Danish and other TV)

And maybe the title would have let you know that the news report had some original content.

Does anyone feel it's worth paying for insurance to drive in someone else's car while you are learning? Im considering it as I want to pass ASAP ??

If money is no object it's a great idea. The more practice you get the easier and quicker it'll be.

Since you will need the owner of the car with you anyway, you might as well just get them to take take the car somewhere with no hazards for you to drive it there. You'll save that insurance money that way. I used to drive my dad's car around the county council car park on Sundays before I took any proper lessons. It was completely empty. Don't know if it still will be, but you should be able to find somewhere like it on Sundays or late at night.

What's the cost per lesson now?

Back in 1990 it was £10 an hour, I'd guess now you are looking at around £30?

Am I near? Factoring in his time, car, insurance, fuel etc.

Cost me £20 an hour 3 1/2 years ago. Don't think the average has hit £25 yet, but I could be wrong.

Man it cost me £20 12 years ago and then my instructor bumped it up to £22 after 6 months. And I swear he had the shittiest learner car. A Y red 5 door brown corsa. All my mates were learnin; in brand new corsas and fiestas. I still see him from time to time teaching in a 5 door 02 reg brown focus. The old jibber!

I passed my theory first time and practical third.

Good luck

My instructor was a total cock.

Thought he was the dogs bollocks yet he was a 65 year old man, who's wife left him a year before I started learning.

Every lesson he brought it up. One week I even had to drive to the court in the centre of Leicester to pick some bankruptcy forms up for his son. Complete tosser, making me do that in my lessons. Also he spent 20 minutes once showing me how to fill his car up with petrol.

If I had any advice for anyone it'd be get a female driving instructor.

I had 2 instructors, both from Loughborough.

The first one, was called Adam who had a Mini Cooper, had a bit on a temper; I struggled to slow down when on bumps, and everytime - I did this he would randomly put his hands on his head in a 'brace' position which made me slightly on edge at the time. And if I was just a few MPH over, he would say loud ''IT'S THIRTY MPH!'' which prompted me to suddenly apply the brakes.

The second one, Jim, was very good; every time I made a mistake he would tell me instantly and remind me of how to go about the particular situation properly; also gave me some awareness videos for the practical which were very useful.

How can you struggle to slow down? Just brake, you know, the middle pedal

Passed both first time in 2007. I have no idea how I didn't think I was a great driver! Can't recommend my instructor enough it was Broughton school of motoring, bloke was called Martin Wright and he made it very clear a few times that he instructed all the young LCFC players so can't be bad.

i remember asking several different companies for a female instructor. they all told me there werent any available.

probably thought i was a perv or something.

my instructor was a preston fan although it was around the time they were in the championship with us.

the ****er would turn up for lessons early but wait round the corner before pulling up outside my house bang on time.

When the missus is giving you directions and tells you to turn left 20 yards after you've gone past the junction.

Reverse 'round a corner, 3 point turn and reversing are the easiest.
