Electricity Sports 1960 Posted 21 January 2016 Posted 21 January 2016 Fans, the BBC and the sponsors Emirates are being treated with contempt by the football clubs in this year's FA Cup competition. All are paying good money (including myself as a TV licence payer) to watch second class, almost reserve-team, football. Incidentally, why does a top class airline like Emirates sponsor a competition that is second class? The game between Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur was shown on free-to-air on BBC1. The decision to show it at a prime time drew many complaints on Twitter. This meant that potentially many people watched it who normally wouldn't. Premier League games being shown on satellite channels which incur a fee. Many people would have seen what was, in my humble opinion, a very poor quality game.
ScouseFox Posted 21 January 2016 Posted 21 January 2016 yeah emirates airline is who i really feel for after last night
Captain... Posted 21 January 2016 Posted 21 January 2016 Can you change the title to Clubs' contempt and move it to General Chat. It is not a Leicester City topic but a general one.
katieakita Posted 21 January 2016 Posted 21 January 2016 It was not a premier league game but an FA cup tie, we had about half a dozen internationals on the pitch and some younger players and we were not great but there is an off button.
Captain... Posted 21 January 2016 Posted 21 January 2016 It isn't the clubs' fault anyway it is the Premier League and Sky and the FA who have completely undermined the value of the competition, put some of the PL money into the FA cup and make winning the thing worth something, either significant money (sad I know, but £100m for staying in the league, £67,500 and a clogged fixture list for winning the third round, with the chance to win a whopping £1.8m and the honour of screwing up the following season by appearing in the Europa League and a pre season kick about for the "Community Shield". I can see why clubs don't take it seriously, as such neither do fans. A few simple solutions, scrap replays (nobody wants them) stop buggering about with the final date, scrap the League cup, give the FA cup the prominence it deserves as the only English Cup competition and spread the games out so that it doesn't conflict with the PL so much don't have the third round as part of the busy festive period where clubs look to rest players regardless. Also, give it a proper reward, financial and footballing, entry into the CL would be a start and decent prize money.

What about the contempt the BBC showed the 1000's of fans who missed KO? If it hadn't been on TV I would imagine the club would have delayed KO. You can't have your cake and eat it. You don't pay a licence fee to watch sport, trust me the BBC have next to nothing left, you pay a licence fee due to some out dated rule. If you want top class sport you buy sky. But that's a whole different ball game.

That means that the whole BBC schedule for the entire day yesterday cost you 39p. For your 39p, yesterday you had unlimited access to two main channels, plus 100s of Radio Channels and BBC4, three or four Children’s channels, and other supplementary channels like Plus One and HD etc. Oh, and if you missed any of it, you can watch it all on the Internet, at a time that suits you, through BBC iPlayer. The two and a half hours of the football match was but a small chunk of your 39p. I’d say it made up around 5% of the BBC’s output yesterday. 5% of 39p is 1.95p. Let’s call it 2p. It cost you less than tuppence mate. This should hopefully put your outrage into some perspective.
goose2010 Posted 21 January 2016 Posted 21 January 2016 Honestly I hope we never play on the BBC again the coverage was shocking, missed half the play due to the constant zooming in on either the crowd or the benches. It was like having player cam on Vardy and Kane in the first half!

It was like having player cam on Vardy and Kane in the first half! Sky are as bad for doing that, there really should be a "just show the bloody game" feature, or at least a permanent game screen so you can see what is going on during replays and close up shots of fans and the bench.
davieG Posted 21 January 2016 Posted 21 January 2016 As unhappy as I am at losing what piss ed me off the most was the awful BBC coverage. I don't want to see the crowd, the managers, players on the bench, replays etc whilst the game is got on. Honestly I hope we never play on the BBC again the coverage was shocking, missed half the play due to the constant zooming in on either the crowd or the benches. But for some Premier League games, the NBC Sports Live Extra app and website give you a "tactical camera" option, which is a view from perched up high along midfield that gives you a wide view of the pitch, with no commentary. It's almost like a view from the stands.

Don't get me started on Jonathan Pearce! Sky are as bad for doing that, there really should be a "just show the bloody game" feature, or at least a permanent game screen so you can see what is going on during replays and close up shots of fans and the bench. That would be great! last night was like watching the work experience kids having a play.
Dan Posted 21 January 2016 Posted 21 January 2016 English football in general has contempt for anything that hasn't got money behind it. Why do you think we're the only country that looks down at the Europa League?

Exeter earned about 6/700k last night didn't they? That's massive for them. I think clubs should be allowed to agree beforehand whether they want a replay or to decide it on the day. If both want it settled on the day then that's it.

Exeter and other clubs only want the replay for the money, increase the prize pot for each round of the FA cup and scrap replays, or turn it into a 2 leg competition but that will increase the fixtures. Or have a bonus for losing on penalties. If we scrap the league cup then the replays becomes less of an issue, just adopting a couple of those ideas would give the FA Cup a boost, but the current format just shows that it doesn't fit, no other country re-arranges league games for cup games. If the cup is more important don't schedule any league games on cup weekends, it is the inevitable rescheduling of games that just baffles me, they know they have to reschedule games every semi final weekend, I think it is the quarter final too, and it affects teams that aren't in the cup as well as those that are.
