ozleicester Posted 15 February 2016 Posted 15 February 2016 This isnt meant to be a discussion about the rights and wrongs of yesterday, (so if we can avoid this sliding into that ) but it is what has brought it to light for me again. There are two issues... 1) Injury time (or time added on, im not sure what its called now) I thought that the injury time is for the time added on for time used in treating injured players, i did not think it was for time taken to, make substitutions, show red cards or get the ball back on the pitch? 2) I thought that the ONLY time that a game was allowed to continue past the allotted time (including injury time) was for the taking of a penalty, not for corners, not for free kicks, not for throw ins etc. Unless it was a penalty, when time is up.. the game stops, not when the ball is in the air, or not in an attacking position... when time is up.. its up?
theessexfox Posted 15 February 2016 Posted 15 February 2016 Fairly sure stoppage time is for any stoppages and the ref has the discretion to play it as long as he sees fit.
EnglishOxide Posted 15 February 2016 Posted 15 February 2016 Stoppage time is never a maximum. Always a minimum.
themightyfin Posted 15 February 2016 Posted 15 February 2016 Up to the ref. He has to add at least what the board says. If he thinks it's more he plays longer. Simple.
stripeyfox Posted 15 February 2016 Posted 15 February 2016 Play to the whistle. For what it's worth I only saw the last thirty seconds of the game and I presume this point has been made over and over again already, but what a stupid f***ing challenge by Wasyl. Absolutely brainless, crazy foul.
Captain... Posted 15 February 2016 Posted 15 February 2016 Refs are instructed to add on 30 seconds for every substitution, plus any time lost due to injuries, time wasting and excessive goal celebrations. They will normally only blow the whistle when the ball is in play so any free kick or corner awarded during the added on time is normally allowed to be taken and completed. If the ball goes out of play after the added on time is completed then they can blow. No issue with the ref yesterday.
stripeyfox Posted 15 February 2016 Posted 15 February 2016 For the record: "The FIFA Laws of the Game states that the an allowance period may be added to make up for lost time due to the following reasons: substitution of players, stoppage of play because of a serious injury, transport of injured players off the field, and deliberate stalling by a team" So in answer to the OP's first question - it is not only for injuries. I think you may be correct on point 2 though, once time has "run out", it can only be a penalty. I assume in yesterday's case, we were still "playing time" when the kick was awarded. In fact there was a brief restart after the goal.
EGBFitness Posted 15 February 2016 Posted 15 February 2016 Just out of curiosity can anyone remember what the stoppage time was in the first half?
gonnabeblueforever Posted 15 February 2016 Posted 15 February 2016 Just out of curiosity can anyone remember what the stoppage time was in the first half? 2 minutes on board
Fox92 Posted 15 February 2016 Posted 15 February 2016 He would have blown full time if Wasyl wouldn't have made a stupid foul. Never been his biggest fan anyway, at times he jumps in for absolutely no reason and yesterday we paid the biggest price for that.
Bayfox Posted 15 February 2016 Posted 15 February 2016 1. It's a minimum, that's why they announce, the 4th official has indicated a minimum of 4 mins stoppage time. 2. The general rule of thumb is 30 seconds for each sub, so there's 3 mins normally before you start, plus with the red card again, normally around 30 seconds is added. So the 4 mins was more than fair. As has been pointed out, had wasyl not made that challenge, the ball would have floated out for a goal kick and kasper would have kicked it out, game over, but one the ref has been forced to award that foul, he is always then going to let that play develop. Again had it drifted wide he would have blown up as soon as Kasper took the kick. Yes the ref was a huge part to play in our defeat, but we also have to look at the part we played. So gutting when we got so close, but the ref is not to blame for the silly foul we conceded. What does need to be stamped out, is this rolling around on the deck, waving cards and hounding the ref. Pathetic from Arsenal yesterday.
