Captain... Posted 20 May 2016 Posted 20 May 2016 We can, but who knows if we will. We have upset the apple cart a little this season as have Spurs and Arsenal, hopefully it is an end to the era of big spenders, the biggest spenders have struggled this season and when throwing money at the problem is their only solution they will hopefully continue to struggle. Next season there might not be a big 4 or 6 but with Liverpool looking to gate crash the party West Ham and Southampton have been chipping away and Chelsea and Everton expected to improve it could be a big 10 all taking points off each other. I think European exploits will also be a big factor and one that could damage our chances and help Liverpool and Chelsea. All I really hope is that next season it doesn't just revert to type and we end up with the usual suspects occupying the top 4 slots.
David Hankey Posted 20 May 2016 Posted 20 May 2016 We can and we will. Here's to winning the title again next season, why not?
Babylon Posted 20 May 2016 Posted 20 May 2016 Although what has happened might have surprised people there were perfectly good reasons for it. We were the best team - by a distance and were the best team or thereabout for the last few months of last season. So quite why we should find it hard to maintain a "top six" status I've no idea. Surely our aim now should be to improve on specific weaknesses. Like an additional striker or two, another right-back, improved goalkeeper cover, goalscoring midfield player and so on. Winning the Premiership shouldn't be regarded as an end, but a beginning. . He's clearly talking long term rather then one or two seasons. So a very good reason why we might not is down to players leaving and players getting old. Recruitment is key, because as sure as the sun will rise, players will leave and players will get old.
Captain... Posted 20 May 2016 Posted 20 May 2016 Increased capacity bigger stadium required pronto. Only if it is affordable, sustainable and not disruptive, part of our success has been our home support if we try and upgrade the ground and it costs us our atmosphere even for only part of the season it could have negative impact on the pitch and also with the fans. If we can stick an extension on top of one of the stands over the summer for relatively low outlay then go for it. I doubt we actually need a bigger ground, this season has been unprecedented and apart from the last couple of games of the season it was fine. We are not going to have another season where we win the league for the first time in our history (writing that still makes me smile) for a city our size with our local fan base, the ground is about right. We don't want to get distracted by ground improvements that we arguably don't need.

I don't disagree with what you're saying but if we continue in the top 10 of the prem then we will need a bigger ground. We will gain more fans from round the world after this season (especially Thailand). We could fill 40k seats every week in the prem in my opinion. There have been thousands of fans that aren't season ticket holders that haven't been able to go to many if any games this season.

Top has already alluded to this so I'm sure it's affordable. We can easily fill this imo and it would give us more status which in turn MIGHT add to attracting better players.
David Hankey Posted 20 May 2016 Posted 20 May 2016 The Club have to look forward and increasing the stadium capacity is a priority. Success breeds success. Why shouldn't we win the league again next season?
Claridge Posted 20 May 2016 Posted 20 May 2016 Does anyone think we can finish top 6 next season with this style? I look at the success of Atletico and I think yes, but then I think we might want attacking full backs and at least one ball playing CB. Next year many bottom half teams will come here and park the bus, and like we struggled against Newcastle and Norwich at home, I think more teams will park the bus. I hope Ranieri is prepared for that cos we won't go half the season again where we score at will due to the opposition coming at us. This why I want us to sign a quality #10 who's good on the and create chances to break teams down who put ten men behind the ball. Headless chicken, attacking full backs? No thanks Danny Rose,Clyde etc... can't defend and were found out in the matches that really mattered. England will fail in the Euros if they pick these type of players as a good team will exploit the space left Simpson doesn't get anywhere near the credit he deserves in our side, a proper defender who covers the centre backs when required

There have been thousands of fans that aren't season ticket holders that haven't been able to go to many if any games this season. If we continue at this level demand will also drift away, this has been an unprecedented season one never to be repeated people like me who don't live in Leicester and travel a lot with work will have made more effort and spent more money to get to games. I'm do not normally allow football games to dictate my work plans, but if it means to see the title run in I have to use holidays, pull a sickie or rearrange travel plans then I did it, you don't do that to see us secure a top 10 finish, maybe a champions league game, but success breeds complacency and if we are constantly in the top 10, then finishing top 10 won't mean as much.
Rincewind Posted 20 May 2016 Posted 20 May 2016 We were successful because of the team spirit and togetherness. The only danger is if we cannot maintain that. New players will come in and although the first few may bond well, as someone says players get old and retire. There is no guarentee that any future management and coaching/backroom staff will carry on the same way. Although the owners will do their best to keep the status quo. But that is being pessimistic for the long term. For short term 3 4 5 years I believe that they can maintain a top 6-10 position. I would be happy to qualify for Europe again. Winning the League may prove more difficult. I cannot see those that finished below us being so inconsistent again. Chelsea had a poor start which affected them but showed in some games why they won it the year before. Arsenal improved and had a good run to finish second. Same with Man City. Spurs bottled it. All these teams are one or two players short and will be more prepared for City's style of play. But if have a good start other sides will start to worry and believe that Leicester are not that bad a side and winning the title was not a fluke. WE ARE HERE TO STAY.
Staffs Fox Posted 20 May 2016 Posted 20 May 2016 I think we can challenge for the top 6 for the foreseeable but the days of an 'established' top 4/6 are well and truly over, 10 years ago the top 4 was closed a club, Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. Man City crashed the party by buying their way in and Spurs by making some shrewd buys (Bale, Modric etc making money off them and buying a good squad) making it a top 6. Now we have a season where Man United aren't in the top 4 and Chelsea and Liverpool aren't even in the top 7, and we've won the ****ing league!!! If this season has proved anything its that the Premier League is now as unpredictable as any league in the world. One minute you can be the most established top 4 team in the country and the next you're finishing 9th.
