ScouseFox Posted 14 June 2016 Posted 14 June 2016 Seen lots of videos of pissed up Irish fans drinking in the street, stopping traffic, jumping on cars and vans etc and its all received as fun, which no doubt it was. But is it paranoid of me to think English fans would be met with riot police and tear gas? Just shows how much your reputation can influence decisions. absolutely this. i wonder what the people in here (mentioning no names) saying you can't go to a foreign city and "take over" without expecting to be nearly killed by locals or russians think to the scenes of the irish in paris. doing exactly what the english were (getting drunk, having a sing song, putting up flags, the horror) but being allowed to get on with it. which is exactly what i said should've happened to the english but got ridiculed by @@MC Prussian. if you let people get drunk and have a sing song nobody gets harmed. if anyone who has a beer in a crowd gets surrounded by fully riot-geared officers with weapons and tear gas they're going to feel intimidated and fight back. obviously it's wrong but it happens. bar "ten german bombers" and a few singing about not liking isis there's no difference at all between the english in marseille (pre-russian arrival) and the irish in paris, bar the police and local response to it. but we're to blame. we brought it on ourselves etc.
Finnegan Posted 14 June 2016 Posted 14 June 2016 lol classic Scouse. " no names mentioned but @@MC Prussian "
ScouseFox Posted 14 June 2016 Posted 14 June 2016 just thought i'd let him know i was right and he was wrong. he must be bored of being wrong all the time but always worth pointing it out.

Which is - let's face it - ridiculous and that's the point I contested most of all. Surely, English fans, being all-informed, could really expect no fracas ensuing with alcohol (and whatnot) in play, faced against hardcore Russian fans in a French city notorious for its violence and poverty.

Sung half naked with hands out stretched inviting people to "have a go" ...... Swagger? bravado ? Or aggression ? It's easy to see how it's viewed as all 3 Not sure Irish fans or many of the other European counties come close to that little song book , infact I know ireland dont sing a single derogatory song ... Not one But I will say that's a small number of morons behaving like tools ...there were 50000 England fans in Marseille only 2 or 3 % were causing any issue The vast vast majority are proper football people and out to have a drink and singsong and try see Thier team win

GaelicFox Posted 14 June 2016 Author Posted 14 June 2016 just thought i'd let him know i was right and he was wrong. he must be bored of being wrong all the time but always worth pointing it out. You never disappoint You need your own thread "ScouseFox Telling it is as it isn't"

Having seen Irish and English fans both in Cardiff as away fans, I'd say the Irish were considerably more laid back and less aggressive. Again, there were plenty of English who were chilled and just having fun with the locals like normal people. But there was a larger than average group being aggressive, lairy and winding up the locals than with the paddies tbh. Some of that was definitely because the Welsh and Irish get on better than the English and Welsh but then - this tournament is in France and the English love winding up the French far more than the Irish do.

Drunk yes Rowdy ....this is a pretty subjective term Are any of them half naked singing abusive songs ? NO I will take your point in the policing , England fans do get a hard time from the police Maybe some behaviour modification is needed from both sides ?

Many (not all) England rugby fans almost take over and push others out Where French Welsh and Irish like everyone to join in Cardiff and Dublin the best two cities to visit for either sport
ScouseFox Posted 14 June 2016 Posted 14 June 2016 Drunk yes Rowdy ....this is a pretty subjective term Are any of them half naked singing abusive songs ? NO I will take your point in the policing , England fans do get a hard time from the police Maybe some behaviour modification is needed from both sides ? unfortunately it seems to be a vicious circle now. they have a reputation from years ago so are a target from both "over policing" and other fans. then once they're targeted some fight back. so they keep that reputation for needing to be policed. can't see how it'll ever stop if it hasn't, now. thought it had but clearly not.
Finnegan Posted 14 June 2016 Posted 14 June 2016 The Russians wanted to make their mark on the English, no doubt. The local French just don't like the English coming in to town, acting like they own the place, shouting that they hate the French and swaggering down the street with their arms open offering the locals out. The Irish just get pissed and sing songs with the locals. Bit different.

Everyone dress as Morris dancers for one game abroad go there dance and sing , make love and have a laugh And any goading walk away It would never be the same again

I will say I feel sorry for taxi drivers when we Irish are in town Can you imagine trying to understand someone from Donegal asking for A hotel after 20 pints of stout

Bit different. like i said it's a bit different but not much. especially when the english were lambasted for "taking over" and then the headlines the next day are "GREAT SCENES AS IRISH TAKE OVER BARS AND STREETS IN PARIS". and none of it is different enough behaviour for one lot to be "the disgrace of the world" and deserve to have half end up in hospital after being tear gassed and water cannoned, whilst the others are becoming vines for #greatbanterlads. i'm out now cos it's going round in circles and will do until i get banned.
