Cymro is a Welsh person (actually a Welsh man but the term applies broadly.)

Cymrophobia hence is a prejudice against Welsh people. Cymruphobia would be a prejudice against the country as a physical entity.

You'll be pleased to know there's a term for a prejudice against the English as well, Anglophobia. You can throw that one next time you're in North Wales feeling paranoid that the locals are only talking Welsh because of you.

I love the Welsh after Cornwall and west coast of ireland wales is my favourite coastal place

I'll be praying they beat the English :)

As all of Ireland and Scotland will be as well :)

So what's UEFA's punishment for Russia going to be for charging the England supporters on Saturday? I reckon a fine, a strongly-worded statement about future conduct and a threat to make them play one of their Euro 2020 qualifiers behind closed doors if there are further incidents "of this kind".

Seen lots of videos of pissed up Irish fans drinking in the street, stopping traffic, jumping on cars and vans etc and its all received as fun, which no doubt it was. But is it paranoid of me to think English fans would be met with riot police and tear gas? Just shows how much your reputation can influence decisions.

Yeah but the English like that.

They enjoy the fact everyone hates them. England are the Leeds of international football.

Milwall my Celt cousin , They are the Milwall ! Ok Maybe a Leeds/Spurs/milwall hybrid

They love it really the English lads they adore being disliked ,But I wanted them to beat the Russians infact I like to see them play well and win as long as it's not against another team in these Islands

cricket wise I have been away with the barmy army and thoroughly enjoyed it ! An Irish man leads the one day sides and I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm an England cricket fan and love my days out at lords of edgebaston

Rugby wise I hope they get beat every game ! Every fecking game !

It's quite confusing being a paddy in England sometimes lol

But then again us Paddy's are easily confused ;)

We have our reputation for a reason. Frankly, it's hard to complain. But yes, I do think we're judged by a different standard to other teams because of our past. It's a shame, but there's not much we can do about it.

Your right ! There are many decent English lads who would unfortunately get slapped down because of reputation ,but those people they don't even drink or mix with certain elements in the England support , my 4 mates went to Russian game they wouldn't even stay in Marseille because they knew what was coming.

But then again none of the Irish/Swedes yesterday were singing about hating the English or bombers of the IRA

There was lots of fun being had in Marseille before the swagger and aggression was released by the alcohol and a few bad seeds inflict a certain mentality on then rest of the mob

A 16yo boy , a nurse and a chef in prison today for throwing bottles at the police .....what on earth triggered that ? Three lives ruined , why didn't they walk away when it got hairy ?

That's the issue ....they want to join in , that's the element that cannot be explained easily

They seem pretty specific in claiming they want to attack the English because of their reputation for being hooligans.

Nobody thinks the Welsh are hooligans.

It's not like you can get the two confused, really, either, given it's a major tournament and everyone will be decked out in red, waving dragon flags, blow up sheep and wearing daffodil hats.

 

It's quite fanciful to imagine all these Russian fans (who we know go to the football to fight according to their own government ministers) are all of a sudden going to put down the MMA gloves and gumshields just because they arrive in a town with a different nationality in a different colour. I don't doubt the reputation of the English was a main factor in this but they clearly have a interest now in showing themselves to be the baddest mother ****ers around and they'll stop at nothing to prove it.

 

I don't expect scenes as bad as Marseille but I think it's optimistic to think the Welsh (or Slovaks) will have a trouble free day with this lot around, I hope to be proved wrong though as two very good friends are out there.

Perhaps I'm in the minority but I always want our nations to do well apart from the Scotch( yes I know) and I can't put my finger on why I don't want them to do well.Not a hatred.There are plenty of English I dislike before I start on other nations.

Oh yeah, I'm sure whoever they play there'll be some dickheads after a scrap. But I don't see two days of running pitched battles on the same level!

tbf I think he was legit, think he was only on this morning because he wasn't allowed to go to France because he's banned from travel when footy is happening.

it was just the way he spoke like a proper typical hooligan/slightly racist edl nob jockey when clearly people on this morning thought he'd say something sensible. they cut him off pretty sharpish lol. shame.
