Also have to add that it's the timing of the move (should it be confirmed today) that is the cruelest.

Why not wait until after the Euros? Still a month before the new season?!

I'd also imagine the viewer ratings of the Euro TV coverage is going to be down by a few hundred thousand or so across the East Midlands/Central regions too. You wouldn't think the networks will be best pleased.

Still can't work it out.

Disagree completely. Far rather it's done now so we have time to get a replacement in!

The timing is the best thing about it. Losing him in August would've been far far worse.

I guess what I mean is why not do it all behind closed doors (so that the club can be scouting someone or two also behind closed doors) and then publicly announce it after the Euros. Still a month for us all to get over the shock and then potentially quickly be consoled should they have gotten someone like Slimani in, signed, sealed and delivered.

Just to announce it now really fvcks up our summer and the enjoyment of the Euros.

I get what you're saying. But a big move to Arsenal!!!

A club with a 13, consecutive year history of blowing it. And also who will probably not play him in the role he is best at. Doesn't make sense. Other than the money, which is the very antithesis of why and how he won the league with us in the first place!!

Arsenal have more chance of winning silverware that us, like it or not. Also, you could argue that if Vardy stays with us guys like Kanté may leave us anyway and therefore our chance of winning things goes down even further. Plus, as someone has said the increase in wages gives him £8.7M extra over the next four years, which is a massive difference for essentially doing the same job.

Don't bother responding to 'mahrez' - he's not a fan in the sense that you are. He's about as emotionally involved as a grasshopper. He can view the Vardy situation with equanimity because he chose Leicester to support - like you might choose a jacket. So he doesn't 'get' the furore that's been generated by the news. His perception of why Vardy might choose to go is based on the logic of more money and the prospect of more winner's medals. In short, he's a little bit of a hollow fan.

I suppose that makes me a hollow fan too, seeing as I chose Leicester. Not that living in the States and not being English gives you much of a choice in that.

Seems a bit harsh!

He probably doesn't live in England so perhaps he did choose City.

I think we're all hurt & upset to have the "Band of Brothers" fairytale ripped away so brutally

It was in the context of a response he made to 'Kendal Fox' (who is the guy who made the brilliant City video). I know KF wears his heart on his sleeve and is hurt by Vardy's response to the Arsenal approach.

Mahrez could only see it in terms of the money Vardy could make by leaving. It's too dispassionate for my liking. If you support a football team then, surely, there has to be a modicum of passion in your soul.

I think we're all hurt & upset to have the "Band of Brothers" fairytale ripped away so brutally, and be exposed to the cold cash realities, but if Vardy's move goes ahead we'll have to move on and make the best of it.

As for the size of the club in the future, I'm with you. I would love to see us go from strength to strength and compete at the highest level on a regular basis, however in order to do so we'd probably need to sacrifice some of the things that many here value in order to become a "big club". I think that is what rmahrez was getting at.

Incidentally, one of the things that some here would need to get used to if we ever do reach "big club" status would be that there would be more fans who have "chosen" City. For the record, although I live in Aus, I did not "choose" Leicester. I was born there and it would never have occurred to me to support any other team.

Arsenal now after Mahrez it seems...

You chose Leicester, did you? Did you organise interviews or did you just read the prospectus?

City weren't lucky to win the title, ffs! And, in the grand scheme of things, City were a leading team in the 1st Division when I began following them. So the dream for me is a little more elevated than your expectations.

I feel pleased for you that you're content for Leicester to become a team like Southampton or Everton -  why don't you let the Sris know - then they can relax and lower their ambitions and forget their long-term plans.

I'll tell you what I want - City to pick up another title and two FA Cups. I want them to embarrass several leading continental clubs on their way to the Champions League title and to continue to dominate in the Premier. I want teams to come to the KP knowing that they're going to have to work very hard to come away with anything.

In the words of Olvier Twist - I want more...of the same.

My family is from Leicester, and I've been to countless games as a result despite not living in the area. When I was much younger I had friends around me choosing to support the big teams, I guess I could have become a fan of a bigger team instead like them. Thankfully I became a City fan as much as anyone else on this forum is.

I wasn't saying we were lucky to win the title, far from it, but it is a privilege we expected never to have. We should consider ourselves lucky to have witnessed our team win the title, something we never expected would happen. The team however totally deserved to win it, and I feel lucky to be able to watch them perform so well week in week out. We should never feel entitled to win things.

And yes, I would be happy with us becoming a club in the position of Southampton or Everton in the long term, consistently in the top half of the Prem. After witnessing our struggles in the lower divisions I would be more than content with that. Of course this team can achieve so much more in the short-term if they are not broken up, as you say.

lol Bit harsh. Just because I'm not from Leicester doesn't mean I'm not as emotionally involved as anyone else. Of course I want Vardy to stay and will be extremely disappointed if he leaves, I'm just pointing out it's not all doom and gloom if they all leave - more than likely we will be established as a top half Premier League team, what we wanted to achieve only 2 years ago.

Absolutely agree with this. I want the upcoming season to be a case of start as we mean to go on...

I'm sorry but big money or not, you'd think even the Wenger's of this world would have some moral conduct - at least wait until the January transfer window and if we are languishing in the bottom half of the table, then make an offer. But not right now ffs!!!??? Just when the club and fans are taking in the magnitude of what was achieved and are manifesting our optimism for the new season..

What Arsenal are doing - and there's now a rumour of Mahrez being linked - is the the equivalent of a classical pianist playing a rendition of Rachmaninoff's piano concerto no.3, only to have some swine walk up and throw a jug of iced water over him just as the audience are being dazzled and at the height of their enthrallment. It's just cruel. The timing, the cynicism, everything.

The other thing to add is that it seems massively unprofessional on Arsenal's part to make the offer when they did, as Vardy has now gone on the plane to the Euros, without making a decision. Not that I'm remotely confident that England will do anything, but it's the principle.

Where's Vardy's head going to be at, when he's just days away from potentially starting England's first match? It's a joke.

KF if you really believe that morals or consideration of other clubs has a place in todays game, then I am afraid that you are living on Cloud Cuckoo!  By City winning the Prem. League we set ourselves up to be shot down by the 'big' clubs. We made them look like fools, 10 points clear of 2nd placed Arsenal!  IMO whether Vardy goes or stays, we have to be prepared for our club to be torn apart. I will not be surprised if we lose Vardy, Mahrez, Kante, Schmeichel, before the start of the new season. I hope I am wrong.

Yeah I'm not doubting it but people talk as if money has never played part before... Banks literally demanded a loyalty bonus off us to move to Stoke, McLintock handed in a transfer request despite the fact we offered him more money (and moved to Arsenal where he won trophies)... But they are still legends here. No different to Vardy now.

i dont think many regard McLintock as a legend after his disgraceful stint as manager arguablly worse ever

Awful manager here but as a player played in a great era where we nearly won the league and then the 63 Cup Final.

There is a lesson here - vardy (and his agent) started this thing... and now if he goes he will be rich but unhappy with his football.  If he stays he may enjoy the football but wish he had arsenal wages.  By starting this, vardy has ensured he will not be happy what ever he does. It's sad.

I have posted before that the reason we won the league is down to a conjunction of many things - vardy was a piece of the jigsaw - but there are many other pieces too.  I believe our success is "stable". Even if man city or utd discover consistent winning ways (as we have) I believe we will be there or there abouts this season (I would be gutted if we don't finish top six ) and I believe we have a reasonable chance of winning the pl again.. next season or the one after.  Ranieri would always have to mange the succession and the  introduction of 2 or 3 first team players each season to turn the side over every 5 or 6 years - with our owner he can do this.

I am hoping vardy will stay (richer, yes) - but I would be more worried if Ranieri left. I believe we will win more silver than arsenal in the next few seasons... because everything is "right" at our club - they have to manage the wenger transition...

True. Perhaps I am being ridiculously idealistic. But there are plenty of underachieving big clubs with players Arsenal could have approached before us.

They could have at least focused on them - who at least can afford the loss of a player or two - then give us until the Jan transfer and see where we are at before going for the kill..

I do think there is some spite from Wenger, as you say we made them look stupid by running away with the title. Pretty sickening when you consider this is the man - Wenger - who made a point of saying he didn't agree with clubs cynically swooping for players.

So, as with me, the Club chose you. :)

:)

The way I remember in those days everyone at school was automatically a Leicester supporter. None of this Man U, Chelsea stuff. Then again Leicester were doing quite well at the time under Gillies.
