foxfan92 Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 Can't see this elsewhere - please merge / delete thread if it's already been said. Last time I read anything Ranieri seemed to be diverting all the pressure away and setting small baby step targets for us to reach - insisting we had a target of 40 points and safety again first while allowing the "big teams" to worry about taking our title from us. Seems he now has a new target for us - 1 more than last season - 82 points. Not sure whether this is a good or bad move since I can see reasons for both targets (the first obviously working wonders last season) http://m.leicestermercury.co.uk/ranieri-sets-new-premier-league-points-target-for-leicester-city/story-29637042-detail/story.html
Harry - LCFC Posted 19 August 2016 Posted 19 August 2016 I'm somewhat surprised by that. Especially since he's said it will be even harder this season. I'd kind of got the impression, perhaps wrongly, that he considered the title to be pretty much off the table this season. But then again, I also remember posting that I thought it was silly of him to challenge us to get more points in the second half of the season than we did in the first half!
limeydale Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 That's an average of 2.216216216216216 ppg, means we're gonna have to turn those draws last year into wins.

It's only 1 point more than last season so in theory we just need to turn 1 loss into a draw. Of course we only lost 3 times last season and we've already lost once this season. Mind you we lost both times against the Gunners and drew against a number of teams we could have won against ... so a positive result today against Arsenal could put us back on track. (Albeit with the entire season just about to go.) A positive performance against Arsenal will definitely help our mindset going forward.

Neither team having hit their stride yet. As for this season, I'd be happy with an upper midtable finish regardless of the points. I can't see us repeating last season's heroics but I'd like to think we'll not be drop zone botherers.
MC Prussian Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 I'd be happy with avoiding relegation once more by the end of the year and then mount another European challenge in the second half of the season. You can't top last season's achievement and they never will. Good football and more wins than losses would do me just fine.
davieG Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 He was saying 40 points before the hull game so maybe he's decided that's made them too easy going an needs to up the pressure.
lgfualol Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Doubt that is his actual realistic aim. Just making a point that he always wants to improve.
David Lowe Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 If he wants 82 points he is going to be disappointed. It is a MUCH stronger league this time, we have lost our best player and also have the extra European games. I think most fans will be happy with a comfortable 50 points this time.

It was pretty strong last season and some clubs have tooled up from there. I can see there being a distinct leading pack this year, of 4 maybe 5 clubs. Maybe there'll be 2 or 3 'shoulder' clubs but by-and-large the rest of us will be scrapping it out for points amongst ourselves.
Loggy88 Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Not sure about points target, but my target would be top 6. Now that Riyad is staying I think that's the best we can get. Which would be a good season,. And maybe win a cup?
Sharpe's Fox Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Does anyone take Ranieri's doddery uncle schtick seriously? It's just an act.
RastaDog Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 I don't feel 82 is realistic this year. Sure, aim for the moon and hit the stars (or whatever the cliche is) but careful also as unrealistic targets can also demoralise.
Guest kristianity77 Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 All I want as a goal this season is for us NOT to be the lowest points scoring champions in the following season which was set by Chelsea last year with 50 points. So anything above that is the first target I'd be setting.
Fox92 Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Why do we have to have a target. Taking one game at a time is fine.
foxy boxing Posted 20 August 2016 Posted 20 August 2016 Let's just see if we can get a few wins under our belt first before setting points targets

Others like losing to Hull making us the first team to lose the opening match of the next season after winning the premier league - not so good. I just think we're trying to get as many records as possible to raise the profile of the club even further!
