I saw on old boxed microswitch joystick in a charity shop over the weekend, dragged my eldest over to it then spent five minutes reminiscing about how many I'd smashed in a frustrated rage.

LCFCtotheprem Posted 9 September 2016 Author Posted 9 September 2016 Ended up ordering a 22" cruiser board from twobarefeet as wanted one small enough to put in a bag
LCFCtotheprem Posted 12 September 2016 Author Posted 12 September 2016 Just got my skateboard, it's so hard. How do I learn to ride it?

But I've been watching some reviews on youtube of penny skateboards etc and I guess they can be quite good value - so long as you understand what you're getting. They won't roll or turn as well as a more expensive board. But they will move, lol. I kinda like the one you posted coz it is larger than a standard penny board, which should make it more comfortable and easier to control. Bizarre that people are starting to buy 70's skate boards again

Stand on it. get your balance. just stand on it. when you have got that, How to Stand on a Skateboard Community Q&A Skateboarding is an awesome sport that several people would love to get into. Yes, skateboarding can be difficult, but the reason why people have so much trouble learning how to skate is because they don't even stand on the board properly! Hopefully, this article will help. Steps 1 Forget about everything else. Mentally slap yourself and forget about tricks, flips, and even pushing the board. If you can't even stand on it, tricks are way out of the picture. 2 Find a safe practice place. Place the board on a flat asphalt surface. In order to stand on the board, you can't have it rolling down a hill. If you want, before you try the asphalt, try carpet or grass. It's softer and more reliable. 3 Know your stance. You need to figure out your skateboard stance, whether you are goofy (right foot forward) or regular footed (left foot forward). 4 Position your feet. This part is what messes up most newbies. Put your front foot on the back two bolts or right on the front truck. Put your back foot on the curve of the tail. 5 Balance. Skateboarding is all about balance. This is why we check the type of board, stance, and foot placement that suits you best. You need to keep your weight down on your feet so that you can control the board. Be sure to spread your legs and use your hands to help you gain more balance. You can stand up straight if you feel comfortable with it, but you can also bend your knees bearing in mind that this lowers your center of gravity.

They're fun, they're cheap, and in an age of terrorism and economic armageddon that's reason enough I reckon. Might even go out and get one myself

It'll take time and patience, you never move or balance like that in any other sport (unless you've done snowboarding or surfing) so it's a completely foreign stance for your body to handle. Again your style of board will make it a little more difficult, but you may be able to tweak it a little bit. If you're finding the board wobbles back and forth too much you can tighten the central bolt on the trucks, or vise-versa if they feel too tight.
Guest Posted 12 September 2016 Posted 12 September 2016 oh, and watch rodney mullen. I know you said you're not interested in doing tricks, but this guy took skateboarding from being a hobby to being an otherworldly and poetic art form. He'll make you fall in love with it even if the most you can do is fall over.
