From a Liverpool forum..

Anyway, I'd like to give credit to Leicester's fans from Saturday.  They were amongst the best we've had for years.  They produced an anti-Sun banner and some of their fans applauded Liverpool's well-taken goals, while some were also applauding the players we paraded on the pitch at half-time and the returning Olympic games athletes as well!  All credit to their fans for that.  Saying that, our fans were equally generous in applauding Leicester for being champions.

Didn't see the anti-Sun banner any pics?

Yay, football's so much better when we're all friends isn't it? I know some people will say I'm being grumpy but I find all that stuff rather sycophantic.

People who applaud an opponent's goals are trying to show that they can 'rise above' the competition of the match by recognising quality when they see it. But here's the thing, we shouldn't be there to view the match as neutrals we should be there to back our team, which means opposition be damned. Same applies to the other stuff mentioned, with the exception of the athletes.

Personally I'd prefer it if we all kept ourselves mired in the Us v Them mentality, at least during the game.

Just a little mutual respect, dont think its a bad thing.

I personally like to see the Youll Never Walk Alone song with the scarves and banners held aloft. I wasnt there on saturday but have been to Anfield numerous occasions and ive always found that a great sight, some people boo their heads off through it and try to drown out the noise, thats their perogative i guess but i think its an iconic sight.

I can remember Messi been applauded at the Bernabeu for his moments of skill in El Classico a few times. I dont think it has to be about pure unconditional hatred, you can still appreciate skill, or in the case of the Liverpool fans, respect for the champions, without losing your tag as a passionate fan.

I've only ever done that once and I can tell you I wasn't trying to show anyone anything of the sort. Bergkamps hattrick got applauded because it was just breathtaking skill, I'd seen nothing like it before and nothing since.

Clapping opponents goals? whats all that about?

You'll never find me doing that!

I've clapped opponents twice as far as I can remember,

Warren Barton, but only when subbed and Enfield after

a spirited performance and only after the final whistle.

Hmmm except we all accept praise when other supports say how well we did and started applauding us last year.

At the end of the day Liverpool were far better than us, we didn't do anything specifically wrong. we were just outplayed and that deserves praise.

No idea, still not seen a picture of the flag.

As for applauding opposition goals and achievements, yes football is tribal, but then it is also sport and players shake hands before and afterwards and recognise achievements why can't fans, when a team play that well going forwards you can scream and shout and punch your neighbour, or put your hands together in appreciation of great football.

We got applauded by opposition fans last season for being awesome, nothing wrong in returning it.

What's wrong with the Sun.

Lying hypocritical rag of a "newspaper" if you don't know why scousers hate the Sun then you should read up on a thing called Hillsborough.

As for us it was the Sun that broke the Vardy racist story, despite them having used the "sick and racist" epithet Jap many times:

Such a Liverpool thing to post that, it's almost like they demand respect because of their history blah blah blah and we're the only set of fans daft enough to oblige. The amount filming YNWA, which honestly wasn't that impressive, rather than trying to outsing it sums up what our away support has become these days.

Those 18 league titles they won before mean nothing then? Anyone banging about how we've won the Prem while [club x] hasn't are embarrassing. Football didn't begin in 1992 FFS.

I've read that through three times now and still haven't the faintest about what you're about.

If you're trying to make out I have a soft spot for that lot, you should probably read what I put above the post of yours I quoted.

It's as it should be, and it has been with many Liverpool and Leicester fans for decades. Passionately supporting your team doesn't mean you can't be gracious enough to appreciate the efforts of others.

My oldest's a Liverpool fan who visited when we beat them so decisively at the King Power last season. He made no excuses, was full of praise for our performance and wished us well for the title. Now it's our turn to eat humble pie.

Far better than listening to  Mourinho or Wenger's endless excuses in defeat.

We had 90 minutes to win some praise at Anfield. And wasted most all of them.
