limeydale Posted 5 November 2016 Posted 5 November 2016 If I'm watching on the Tv it's all about wins...if I'm watching by stream it's about performance.
HighPeakFox Posted 6 November 2016 Posted 6 November 2016 For me, it's whether or not the team have given their all.
Crazy Kop Corner Posted 6 November 2016 Posted 6 November 2016 Has to be the result every time. A good performance one week does not necessarily translate into a good performance the next or give rise to a spate of improved results.
crazyleicester Posted 6 November 2016 Posted 6 November 2016 Having lived through managers from Pleat to MON, Megson to Claudio Id have to say the thing that gave me the most joy was the results. Ive seen Joachim to McAllister, Heskey to Tony Spearing but for me when I sit back and talk about games from yesteryear with buddies 90% of the time the chat is about remembering wins and 10% about wins with performance. We were blessed last season to have magical wins and some amazing performances combined but I still remember seasons like 98/99 where we didnt score more than a goal a game very often (26 games with one goal or less) but we still did the double over Liverpool with 1-0 wins and some real backs to the wall performances including draws v Man Utd and Arsenal. I cant remember many amazing offensive performances in those games but a few were amazing defensive displays, even though they may have been a bit ugly!
Donut Posted 6 November 2016 Posted 6 November 2016 I think this falls into four areas for me: 1) Poor Performances & Results: Unnacceptable. Team looks clueless, heartless and if this trend continues, the manager is usually sacked. Atmosphere at games is toxic. 2) Poor Performances but results come: This is tolerable. If the team are in need of a lift, in a difficult period of the season, or just not clicking, the result can overcome the negatives. Often seen as a good trait in a team, grinding out wins and showing steel. Luck can only be ridden for so long though 3) Good performances but results dont come: In the short term, acceptable as there are signs that the team will turn a corner. Fans leave games entertained, but their patience will wear thin if the results dont come eventually. Team may be brave in defeat against better quality. 4) Good performances and results: Utopia. a very rare thing for any team other than the absolute elite.

That said I'm ok with grinding out results if there's logic to it and a vision of better things to come. At the moment I think we're in a transition phase where we've achieved way beyond expectations with a 'team' and therefore have been in a catch up situation regarding individual player capability. The current squad were never expected to achieve what they have done and continue to do so but I think we will see a gradual improvement in quality and the team will evolve and improve. This can't be done in a hurry as we need to maintain the 'spirit' within the club whilst making those improvements. To do so we need the current squad to continue to get results whether by scintillating football, grinding out results or anything in between to maintain our status at the highest possible level to give us a greater chance of attracting the best to LCFC. Proper spot on DavieG
sylofox Posted 6 November 2016 Posted 6 November 2016 To the OP right now watching this shite fvck the performance all that matters is 3pts.
carled Posted 6 November 2016 Author Posted 6 November 2016 So in the post match thread there's a whole lot of abuse flying towards the team. Had that deflection gone in just after their second for us to equalise and then we'd spawned a goal late on, would that have made it OK? I'd argue not. The problem with nicking results, scraping results, just getting over the line, phrase it however you want, is... that sooner or later the luck runs out and you look like a clueless bunch of muppets running aimlessly around a pitch. Get the performances sorted out and the wins will start coming.
carled Posted 22 November 2016 Author Posted 22 November 2016 The "resulters" will gloss over the rather lucky way we got through that. Those who worry about the performance will realise that if we play like that against a decent team we will get utterly twatted. We HAVE to get the performances sorted out or this will all end in tears.
Dr The Singh Posted 22 November 2016 Posted 22 November 2016 I'm a result person, but unfortunately I can't see is getting the same result with the performances we are displaying
Wymsey Posted 22 November 2016 Posted 22 November 2016 Good performance to get a good result. But don't mind an iffy performance but still grind out a good result!

Something that will probably never happen again in our lifetime. Ending in tears is playing in the third tier of English football, not mixing it with Europes elite.

No. If we don't sort out the performance it will end up with us going out 1-0 on aggregate to a mid-tier nothing team we 'expect' to beat. Then there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth. Doctor Singh is correct: we got lucky with our draw (despite us being seeded, we could have done MUCH worse) and scraped through. We WILL be found out if we play our hoof ball like that against mediocre European opposition.
sylofox Posted 22 November 2016 Posted 22 November 2016 It's all about performance when it's my Mrs. When it's somebody elses Mrs well that's just a result.

It's still a remarkable achievement for a club like ours to win the group and qualify, regardless of who our opposition were. And don't bring Doctor Singh into it, he's a grumpy old WUM at the best of times
HighPeakFox Posted 22 November 2016 Posted 22 November 2016 Some people will come out with any old crap to justify their whingey position rather than just admit they're a misery.
Buzzell Posted 22 November 2016 Posted 22 November 2016 Why is it that we always make hard work of it? 2-0 up. Absolutely breezing it in the first half but then in the second we always drop off inviting teams to get back into the game. Must be the Leicester way.

carled Posted 23 November 2016 Author Posted 23 November 2016 47 minutes ago, Corky said: So if we'd won 5-0 you'd then expect us to beat whoever we played? eh? no. You could play shockingly badly against a pub team and win 20-0. The performance is different from the result. We could go to Man City and put in a really resolute display with the occasional chance and still lose 1-0. If the team played well and there was a wonder goal scored then there's not much that can be done. Our current problem is that we are playing shockingly badly. This didn't show in the first half last night because, as many people pointed out, Brugge were completely flat & disinterested. If we'd played like (most of) last season against them, we'd have won 5-0 as you mention. We could have won 4-1 last night but it still wouldn't have made either half a good performance - we were allowed to play without pressure in the first half and still didn't take advantage as we should have done. Second half we came up against an interested and livelier team and they caused us many problems. We could easily have conceded one or two more goals but lucky for us, we didn't. In a parallel universe, one more of their wild shots could have resulted in another goal. Huth's near own goal could have gone in. We could easily have lost. Yes, we could have scored goals, but we didn't either so it makes it a moot point, but it doesn't mean we played well just because we beat an overall poor team. If we play the same way against many premiership teams, we will get utterly spanked. Think of a golf analogy - you play a course in windy & wet conditions and score 2 over par - not bad. You play the same course in flat calm conditions and score 5 under par - fantastic. UNLESS of course, every other bugger in the competition scores 10 under as it's actually an incredibly easy course and your -5 is actually a really poor score for the conditions and difficulty of the course. Last night's first half was the incredibly easy pitch and putt course with bucket sized holes and we didn't hole as many putts as we should have. Therefore we did not play well even though the result was good for us. The problem that many on here have is they cannot separate out result and performance. This leads to accusations of "being negative even though we've won our group, etc." and that's completely missing the point. We can only beat who's put in front of us but we were fortunate that we had an easy group. Spurs would in all likelihood have pissed that group too and yet we're abusing them for getting knocked out in a much harder group. Monaco would have torn us to pieces if we'd played like we did last night (and for most of our premiership games). If you go on the result alone then too many people will have unrealistic expectations of what will happen when we come up against "easy" Bayer Leverkusen, for example.
Corky Posted 23 November 2016 Posted 23 November 2016 I think plenty realise that we haven't played all that well in some of the games. I think the first two were good, next two not so, yesterday was fine for 50 minutes then we decided to fall back into shutting up shop mode for some reason. Of course it will be much tougher against better sides but we may well adapt our game, we should have new players and hopefully some confidence from better league results. The Spurs thing is mainly down the crowing about us embarrassing England in Europe and ruining the co-efficient from fans and pundits. We have played well in the last month and we need to improve, everyone can see that. I doubt anyone is proclaiming we'll go very far based on these performances. But then winning comfortably wouldn't necessarily do that either. We look short of confidence but the hunger was there and we need to show that in league games now.
