Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 Clearly lessons are being learnt from this year's debacle of a pre-seaon. Club looking at post or pre season tour to China.....The mind boggles.
filbertway Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 Post season I wouldn't mind. As long as we stay local when we get back. We need a proper pre-season in the 4-6 weeks leading up to the opening weekend.
Barky Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 I don't think it was the travel that harmed us, more the fact that we were getting soundly beaten. Pre-season tours abroad are nothing new.
RowlattsFox Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 Nothing really wrong with a tour but needs to be organised better. This year we went a while without playing and then suddently playing 3 games in 3 different countries within a week.

Everyone saw how mad Asia has gone for Leicester, we'd be mad to not exploit that financially. The pre season this year was a bit of a mess frankly, but it was the first our club has seen-I'm sure it will be far more organised next time. All of the other big clubs do it every year so cant be that detrimental to form and performances

lgfualol Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 Post season visit + Thailand would be better. Hopefully we go back to either local games or some games in Europe and UK for pre-season where everyone actually plays and is fit.

Fox92 Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 Sadly this is what happens being a Premier League club - well, a sort of successful Premier League club. Pre season should be for local games where we can get to grounds we haven't been before and just have a laugh.
Izzy Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 I'm tired of pre season being used as an excuse for our poor start to the season. Overseas pre season tours haven't effected other teams this season, so I think we're using it as a convenient excuse. It comes with the territory so we need to man up, adapt and get on with it.

Done correctly, I can't see much of an issue. Glasgow, to LA, to Sweden was ridiculous. 5 friendlies, 2 of which we were battered. It was a shambles. It taught us nothing about ourselves and didn't even give us a chance to get properly fit. It's not the only cause, but it was definitely a contributing factor.

The shambles that was pre season is a big reason we are where we are now - the players said it was a joke. two massive game coming up.
Guest Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 Surely most premier league clubs go on Pre-season to some wonderful coutry. Nothing new and IS NOT anything to do with the way we are playing now
EGBFitness Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 I don't think touring is particularly a bad thing, as long as your not racking up stupid air miles. Our problem this year was that we seemed to show no real professionalism and was more about showcasing the trophy and trying to pick up the odd new fan rather than concentrating on the team and improving on the success on and off the pitch

Guest Lako42 Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 Just another opportunity to do a bit of bedwetting I couldn't give a shit what they do Pre-season, everyclub who has won the league recently has been abroad on pre-season tours. It's really not that hard on the poor little lambs.

Hopefully Stoke will be the turning point , but I did also say that about Man City...

The Champions Cup was just poorly organised, Wrong opponents wrong times wrong locations too much travelling........Not that that was the clubs fault apart from agreeing to enter it I don't believe they organised the games.
desertfox2 Posted 21 December 2016 Posted 21 December 2016 Arsene Wenger was having a moan about Arsenal looking at China and India for pre-season. Have to say he's right about it. We should be playing lower league clubs in pre season. Nothing wrong with a trip abroad after the season has finished. I get that it's good long term for the club to go over to Asia but the timing has to be right earlier the better. It's short sighted too playing things like the ICC. Let's say you make a decent chunk of money from one of these tours. If it effects league position or getting in Europe then surely the profit and loss doesn't add up. It can't pay more than getting in Europe surely. And if it cost a place in the prem then it's even more idiotic.

What is idiotic is to think a pre season tournament can cause any of the things you have listed.

I disagree. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4053042/Arsenal-visit-China-India-pre-season-club-plan-extension-money-spinning-trip-Australia.html Why would Wenger who has always tried to make Arsenal as much money as possible be so opposed to a jet set pre season if it doesn't have an effect on performance. A couple of places in the table can be the difference between qualifying for europe at one end and getting relegated at the other. What have I said that is idiotic?

You think our pre season is affecting our results now, through a 38 game season. Arsene Wenger is a master of diverting his complete failures away from himself. Why are all the other teams who HAVE won the league in recent memory not coming out and blaming pre season tours?

Maybe not now but beginning of season yes. And an extra few points would see us quite a lot higher in the table. The other teams that Have won the league had deeper squads than us though. Can't really compare us with them. When was the last side that won the prem completely out of the blue? The sides that have won it have been consistently up there challenging year on year with bigger squad depths.

Bigger squads who all went on pre season tours? So just more players to choose from who have been through the same exercise.
