Summer signing failures and league position

Recommended Posts

We had our one and only chance and it seems like we've blown it, the calibre of player we could of signed in the summer will not join us now we're languishing near the bottom of the league, these opportunities for a club like us come along once in a lifetime and we let it slip through our hands.

So disappointed.

Charlie Adam .... are we that desperate?!? He's slower than me and I'm recovering from a broken ankle.

Somebody wrote yesterday and it's absolutely spot on, who on this forum wrote (in the summer) that they didn't think our summer signings were ok? I'm sure there was a poll on the subject. Personally, I think I suggested I was 'relatively happy' or words along those lines.

Now of course, in typical FT fashion, they were all abysmal and we should never have signed them.

I don't think any of them are particularly bad. Individually. But as a team, collectively, it just ain't working.

if there are not bad indiv. then there is something wrong with those incharge of putting the team up each week along with the tactics

What worked last year clearly aint working this season yet we still continue to put the same shit 4-4-2 out every week that continues to under perform, now if this was over the course of a few games fair enough but its every ****ing week now and for me that blame has to go to the management.

Teams will also up there game when playing us this season and will be well prepared for what we have to offer as has been proven week in week out.

In a situation where the side are generally under-performing, both individually and as a team, something has to change.  It's not even as though its a good performance followed by a poor one.  The good performances are very scarce.  Too many players are past their best.  Their reputation from last season and that of Claudio really does not matter now.  If the side continue with this lack of form relegation looks very likely.  Something the owners would find unacceptable.  Once again the next few games are crucial for Claudio I feel.  Personally I would have liked to have seen the younger players used much more.  At least then there is some promise for the future.  Where an established player is consistently not performing then replace him.

However he can deliver long passes accurately and takes good free kicks.

I thought we did good business only losing Kante, I hadn't seen enough of the signings because I don't follow leagues abroad to form an opinion on them. I did on the other hand see that we'd failed to sign players in particular and very important positions.

Just some possibilities below:

CB: Keane (just pay gravel mouth what he wants)

Chelsea and Everton have both been interested, and he's been in the England squad.  I don't think at present that he'd go to Leicester.  No offence.

Keane - unsettle with early bid. Make player ask for transfer. 25m should do it. Who the F**k wants to stay at Burnley?!

Trippier - pay the fee. 20m should do it. He has stagnated behind Walker and will want to play.

Adam - Yes, not long term solution, but has leadership qualities required for a battle ot two. Hopefully Ndidi and Mendy will be good, but would be a good edition.3-4m will do the trick.

Snodgrass - Out of contract in summer. 15m, Hull will panic.

Deeney- 30m will do it. Get the bid in early.

Going the other way should get 40-50m in on Marhez, Schlupp and Ulloa combined. Plus didn't we just pick up a load of dosh on our C/L group stage qualification?!!

This is the state of the transfer market today. The fees are overinflated I know. But it's the same for everyone. If we don't act, someone else will. Let's start thinking like Premier champions instead of Forest and Derby, otherwise we will soon be playing them again.

lol

its not monopoly money, hard to get players and clubs to deal in jan, we will sign 2 proven players at the very most.

i predict one incoming and it wont be for big money.

It's unforgivable to have Marcin as Huth and Morgan's only competition in the squad. Three CBs with a combined age of 100!

Both of them would have been dropped already this season at most clubs but we don't have cover enough to drop them never mind for when they get suspended.

Major bollock dropped in my opinion.

Everyone's an expert in hindsight

This is not anything to do with hindsight. It's looking at the signings we have made and saying at the moment they are not working. It's an evaluation that the management should be doing (and probably are) and unfortunately at the moment it's a statement of fact. Hopefully it will change soon, it has to if we are going to improve and stay up!

Gueye is so overhyped, not a bad mifielder but not fit to lace Kante's boots, he's really not that great. Zieler isn't the best keeper but you're not gonna get much better for back up.

Whether people voted good or bad before the season is irrelevant. At the moment they are not performing. Whether that's their fault, the managers fault or the team's fault doesn't change that fact.

These threads never cease to amaze me with the assumptions people make. We should have tried to sign a player for a certain position, when for all we know we did. We should have signed a certain player as if the player himself and his club had no say in the matter. And then there's we paid too much for so and so but we should break the bank to sign this player.

The club isn't run by morons, they want success as much as we do. If there's a chance to improve the squad they will. Not all signings come off, sometimes players don't get picked for non footballing reasons, sometimes we're unlucky with injuries. It's the same at every club.

fair point, but we had considerable pulling power in the summer, and went for pretty vanilla players that cost a lot of money, that had zero experience in this league, or country
